Deniz Baykal and Nesrin Baytok Video Scandal © www.shanagrant.com "When you look at Turkey today, it is as if the country has ... fallen under foreign occupation," the leader of the opposition CHP party Deniz Baykal has said. Paranoia is inevitably also grandiose. When the House Committee on Foreign Affairs passed up the recent resolution to describe the massacre of Armenians in the First World War era as a genocide, Suat Kiniklioglu, the spokesman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish Parliament, explained Turkey's outrage thus "I think the Americans would feel that same if we were to pass a resolution in our parliament talking about the treatment of [native] Indians in this country."

In a now famous 1997 Columbia Journalism Review article, James Hoge argued that the United States perceives the world beyond its borders as largely irrelevant. He argues that unless there is a serious crisis or war, or an international event directly relates to American interests, the nation and its media pay no attention. In this conversation, Hoge discusses changes in the media as well as within the fields of international affairs and foreign policy over the last decade. James Hoge is editor of Foreign Affairs, a bi-monthly magazine of analysis and commentary on international affairs and US foreign policy. Prior to joining Foreign Affairs in 1992, he worked in journalism for three decades as a Washington correspondent, editor and publisher of the Chicago Sun-Times, and as publisher and president of the New York Daily News. He has been a fellow at Harvards John F. Kennedy School of Government, the Freedom Forum Media Center at Columbia University, and the American Political Science Associations Congressional Fellowship Program. He is chairman of the International Center for Journalists, a director of Human Rights Watch, and a director of the Center for Global Affairs at New York University. India and China: Can two tigers share a mountain? Lecture at The Australian National University by David M Malone, 20 April 2010. To outsiders, India and China show some striking similarities. Both are ancient civilizations reincarnated as modern republics in the mid twentieth century, and are now rising powers. Both have nuclear weapons, burgeoning economies, expanding military budgets and large reservoirs of manpower, and seem to be vying for influence in the Indian Ocean, the Persian Gulf, Africa, Central Asia and East Asia. Yet little attention is paid to the relationships between them. (From India and China: Conflict and Cooperation by David M Malone and Rohan Mukherjee, Survival, 2010) David M Malone is the President of the Canadian International Development Research Centre. Mr. Malone served as Canadas High Commissioner to India and non-resident Ambassador to Bhutan and Nepal. Other positions he has held include: Assistant Deputy Minister (Global Issues) in Canadas Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade; President, International Peace Academy, New York; and as a Canadian Ambassador to the United Nations in New York. Mr. Malone has published extensively on peace and security issues. He has taught at Columbia University and the University of Toronto. He currently serves as Adjunct Professor at the New York University School of Law and is a Senior Fellow of Massey College in the University of Toronto. Every US entry into a sovereign nation, whether an invasion, occupation, full military conflict, or humanitarian intervention, has unpredictable outcomes that require contingency planning. Under what conditions should the United States include state building in its contingency toolkit? Can the United States sustain a commitment to the troops, money, and resources required by state building? Can state building fight terrorism while still protecting the right of sovereignty?

RevolutionNews.US -- March 2010 -- CFR President admits to Bill Maher that the CFR Controls the world. So what is it about Ron Paul that gets the CFR hot under the collar? As a congressman, he has never voted for a tax increase or unconstitutional bills. He wants our troops off foreign soil and to stop policing the world. He is against forming a North American Union. He wants to return to a silver or gold standard to prevent the government from inflating our dollar. Note that all these actions are to limit government and stay within the bounds of our Constitution, the very thing the CFR doesn't want because it is their goal to expand government to a one-world government referred to as the New World Order. Cherish your freedoms, understand the CFR. In presenting the presidential candidates to the voters, there has been considerable media bias. Most people never see this because it is generally presented in such a way that unless you have a sharp eye or knowledge of the events, it passes right over you. One of the most used tactics is to show only part of a story. An example of this is making sure the voters do not know who are members of the semi-secret Council on Foreign Relations. If you are not aware of this organization, you should be because it is not a think tank, but a shadow government slowly dismantling our constitutional Republic and forcing us to become part of a North American Union with no borders and a common currency. The steps are already in place, killing ...
www.RonPaul.com In the second part of his appearance on CNBC's Squawk Box this morning, Ron Paul asserted that the world would be a lot safer if the US government didn't start so many wars and continually tried to meddle in the affairs of other countries. He explained that Iran poses no credible threat to America and that Obama's policy of assassinating US citizens on secret charges demonstrates that something has gone terribly wrong with American foreign policy. Ron Paul supports regaining US security through diplomatic and economic engagement backed by military deterrence instead of aggression, murder and perpetual warfare.Ron Paul is America's leading voice for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies. Has Barack Obamas mantra for change translated to foreign policy success one year after he became the US President? Obama promised to break away from his predecessor George Bushs polices and rebuild ties with disgruntled allies and reach out to the Muslim world. Over the course of the year, his administration attempted to re-start the stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace talks and engage with Iran and North Korea over their nuclear programmes. Obama also had to maintain a delicate alliance with Pakistan, deal with Chinas enormous economic clout and reconnect with former cold war foe Russia. In this episode of Riz Khan, we examine whether Obamas foreign policy agenda has been effective so far. Is it multilateral and can it repair the USs reputation around the world? Anand Naidoo is joined by academic and author Philip Bobbit, who served under three US Presidents; Stephen Walt, professor of international affairs at Harvard University; and Christopher Dickey, the Middle East Regional Editor for Newsweek Magazine.

A new Pew Research Center poll shows that for the first time in four decades Americans don't want their country to intervene in problems abroad. The poll also shows that policy makers, however, still view the United States as a leader that should intervene in foreign affairs. Why is there a disconnect between the policy makers and the people? Is this an indication that the American public is viewing their country differently?

False terminology in the foreign media used in reference to Nazi German concentration camps in occupied Poland. Report by the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland This document was compiled through the monitoring of the international media during the period coinciding with the commemorations of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the former Nazi death camp of Auschwitz. For years, journalists have occasionally used terms like Polish concentration camps or Polish death camps in publications devoted to World War II and the Holocaust. Regardless of their intentions (eg geographic reference to a camp in occupied Poland), the use of such terms could be interpreted by some readers as indicating that the German Nazi camps had been built by Poles and thus were run as Polish camps. For this reason, Poland, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all its missions around the world will consistently campaign against the use of terms that falsify history and shift the responsibility for the Holocaust from the criminal Nazi German regime onto Poland which was occupied by that regime. ARGENTINA The dailies La Nacion and Clarin , late January 2005, articles commemorating the anniversary of Auschwitz contained the terms Polish concentration camp and Polish camp. Protest letters by the Polish ambassador to the papers. 31st January, article by Prof. JD Goldhagen headlined Auschwitz the name of darkness (more on this in the section on the US ...

As President-elect Barack Obama prepares to enter office on Jan. 20, much of his focus has been directed toward the many national security and foreign policy issues that await him in the Oval Office. The list spans the globe, but has a heavy concentration in the volatile Middle East. At this Dec. 16 New America event, held at the Core Club in New York City, foreign policy experts and New America Foundation Board members Fareed Zakaria and Anne-Marie Slaughter explored the ways in which they think the Obama administration will differ from the Bush presidency. Slaughter, dean of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University, and Zakaria, editor of Newsweek International, offered their expertise on Iraq; Afghanistan; Iran; Pakistan and India; Israel and Palestine; Russia; China; and more. A robust discussion followed, focusing on what they thought Obama's policy priorities would be.
