In the early morning hours of May 28th, TowBoatU.S. Ft. Lauderdale responded to a 51' Formosa sailboat on fire in Lake Sylvia which is located near Bahia Mar Yachting Center in Ft. Lauderdale. Several boats were dispatched to the scene along with our Sunken Vessel Recovery Unit and 1 ton flatbed truck. Our captains used dewatering pumps equipped with firefighting nozzles to assist Broward County Fire Rescue in getting the blaze under control. Our salvage Master, Chris Stevens rescued one of the family's cats that was on board during the fire and was dubbed a hero by the owners. When the fire had been completely extinguished, the boat was pumped out, the mast was secured to what was left of the deck and it was towed to a local marina. Sea Turtle hatchlings become disoriented by lights on the beach from businesses and homes. The hatchlings walk towards the light, onto roads, fall into drains or become dehydrated and use their small energy reserves wandering the beach in circles. Ft.
