I shudder to think what would have happened if the wind was blowing at that point in time.

The fire, which still burns today at 60% containment, eventually spread to four different counties. Yorba Linda was hardest hit, with 113 residences destroyed and 50 damaged, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.

www.amysanchezmusic.com November 15, 2008 @ approx 1:30pm- While driving East on the 91 Freeway on our way to a Riverside Philharmonic concert, traffic was moving smoothly. We were to pass just South of the Yorba Linda/Corona fires. Several lanes on the 91 West were closed, but there had been no reports of problems on the East-bound side of the freeway. Traffic suddenly stopped and then slowly progressed through thick black smoke. At this point, we could see spot fires on the South side of the freeway- the fire had already crossed the freeway ahead of us. As we drove through, the strong wind was pushing the flames into our lanes, and you can actually see embers sparking up the windshield of the car. I believe this fire became the Anaheim Hills Apartment fire which you can see at the end of the video. And yes, one of the passengers was on his cell phone the whole time... The music in the background is from Shostakovich's Symphony #10 (Mvt 2). I chose this music for several reasons, but mostly because we were actually on our way to perform this piece at the Riverside Philharmonic concert that evening. We found it interesting that the music we were about to perform matched the intensity of the fires we witnessed. The piece was written after Joseph Stalin's death in 1953, and the 2nd Mvt is said to be Shostakovich's "musical portrait of Stalin". Shostakovich, who had been severely repressed by the Communist Party, wrote "In this composition, I wanted to portray human emotions ...

The fire that started on Green River Rd. in Corona and spread to east Yorba Linda on November 15, 2008
This video was shot as the massive fire front roared through Hidden Hills Estates in Upper Yorba Linda earlier today. Believe it or not there were looky-loos throughout the area as this fire approached; we tried to warn them they only had a few moments, but when this thing hit, the race to get the hell out was on. There was an obvious lack of resources available which no doubt contributed to all these multi-million dollar homes going up. There just weren't enough engines in the area to make a difference. Also, water pressure in the region was pathetically low. The firefighters with me as the front roared through were PRIVATE contracted folks, hired by the folks who owned the massive home we were alongside. They were the only equipment we saw up there for about 40 minutes after the front went through. By then it was too late for many other homes. This footage was shot in the thick of it all - not down at the bottom of the hill with a cellphone cam! This footage is not for any rebroadcast without prior contact with/consent of the poster!
Anaheim Hills Fire. November 15, 2008 The Freeway Complex Fire broke out in Corona and Yorba Linda at around 9am which burned south-westerly into Anaheim Hills, forcing the immediate evacuation of 3100 homes in the Weir Canyon area. This Footage Was Filmed At 6:50 PM On November 15 2008. California Fires Are Just Getting Way Too Bad.
This is a two hour radar loop of the smoke plume generated by the "Freeway Complex Fire." The fire was burning on the northern end of the Santa Ana mountain range east of Los Angeles. As of this writing, the fire had consumed 5870 acres, 22000 people had been evacuated from their homes, and at least 60 homes had been damaged or destroyed. Another 1000 homes remained threatened.
The Anaheim Hills evacuation area is bounded by the 91 freeway on the north, the 241 toll road on the east, and either Weir Canyon Road or Serrano Avenue on the west. All homes north of Marblehead Way, accessed from Serrano Avenue, are included in the mandatory evacuation. The fire ripped through a 250-unit apartment complex on Santa Ana Canyon Road. The complex burned for about two hours before it was extinguished at about 4 p.m. In addition to at least 50 units in the apartment complex, at least 42 homes burned in Riverside and Orange counties. There were no reports of injuries. Anaheim Fire Department officials are directing evacuees from the Corona or Brea fires to the Anaheim Community Center, 250 E. Center Street, Anaheim.
