Home Made French Toast Recipe with Bread from Scratch Instructions: Heat 1 - 1/3 cups water to 110 degrees Add 1 tablespoon sugar 1 package yeast (.25 oz.) This is a short stop motion video that a friend and I put together for a media class. It is the tale of true love between Steve the Dough and Roxanne the Jam, and how far Steve will go to prevent Jacques the Bread (olive and feta cheese, by the way) from stealing his beloved. I did the camerawork and editing, while my friend wrote the story, did all the cooking, and animated each scene. The entire thing took about six hours, including time spent waiting for the bread to rise or bake. Also, did you know that Challah is thought to be the best type of bread for French toast? Really. Try it sometime.

Join Chef Carrie Leonard from Johnson & Wales University in the kitchen as she shows you how to prepare cherry cheese French toast. Yield Approx 2 servings Ingredients: • 1 small French Baguette • 2oz Cream Cheese (reduced fat Neufchatel) • 1 cup Half and Half (reduced fat or fat free) • 2 whole eggs • ¼ tsp pure vanilla extract • ½ can Cherry Pie filling • 2 Splenda packets • 2 tsp butter Equipment: • 2 10-12 oz ramekins (small baking dish) Method of Preparation 1. Crack one egg into each ramekin, add half and half to each ramekin, add spenda, vanilla and whisk each with a fork until well mixed 2. Slice bread into 1 inch slices, place in egg mixture and push bread down in to mixture with a spoon 3. Place one teaspoon of butter in bits over the top of the bread 4. Scoop out teaspoon sized amounts of cream cheese with a spoon and drop over bread 5. Spoon cherries over top 6. Cover with clear wrap , Refrigerate overnight (minimum 2 hours) 7. Preheat oven and bake at 350 for 20 minutes, let rest for 5 minutes, serve

2 cups whole milk (or 2 cups half & half) 1/4 cup butter 2/3 cup brown sugar (light or dark, depending on taste preference) 3 eggs 2 teaspoons cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 3 cups bread, torn into small pieces (french bread works best) 1/2 cup raisins (optional) Directions: 1. In medium saucepan, over medium heat, heat milk (or half & half) just until film forms over top. Combine butter and milk, stirring until butter is melted. Cool to lukewarm. 2. Combine sugar, eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer at medium speed for 1 minute. Slowly add milk mixture. 3. Place bread in a lightly greased 1 1/2 quart casserole. 4. Sprinkle with raisins if desired. Pour batter on top of bread. 5. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 to 50 minutes or until set. Serve warm.
Yields: 6 servings Ingredients: ¼ cup California French Salad Dressing 1 (12oz.) pkg. Baby Carrots 2 tbsp. slivered Almonds, toasted 2 tbsp. Parsley, chopped Preparation Directions: ~ Place carrots in a baking dish that has been sprayed with cooking spray. ~ Pour dressing over carrots and bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes. Stir in almonds and parsley, bake for 5 to 10 minutes more or until carrots are tender.
Shrimp poboys 2 pounds of medium shrimp 1 box Zatarains Baked & Crisp breading 1 cup shredded coconut 3 eggs 2 6-8 inch French loaves Cocktail sauce (recipe below) 1 tomato, sliced Lettuce Preheat oven to 450. Peel and devein 2 pounds of medium shrimp. Whisk eggs together, pour over shrimp and toss to coat. In a small dish, mix Zatarains Baked & Crisp breading with coconut. Dredge shrimp in the breading mixture and coat well. Bake 10 minutes, flip shrimp over, and return to oven for another 5 minutes. While shrimp finish, toast the French bread in the oven. Remove shrimp and bread from the oven. To assemble Po'Boy: Spread cocktail sauce on the bottom piece of bread. Cover with shrimp, lettuce, tomato slices and top half of bread. Serve. Cocktail Sauce 1/4 cup of Miracle Whip 1/4 cup ketchup 1 tablespoon pickle relish 1 tablespoon horseradish Mix all ingredients together and use as a spread for your poboy.

Some yummy topping suggestions, too! Ingredients: 1 small loaf pound cake 2 tablespoons butter, softened to room temperature 2 eggs, well beaten 1/2 cup milk 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract dash of salt cooking oil spray for cookie sheet Slice pound cake into about (10) 3/4-inch slices. (I got 10 slices, but only had room for 9 in my dish.) Spread the 2 tablespoons of butter over the slices of pound cake, and arrange them, butter side up, in an ungreased 13-inch by 9-inch by 2-inch Pyrex baking dish. Blend or whisk the 2 well beaten eggs, 1/2 cup milk, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract and the dash of salt. Pour this mixture over the pound cake slices. Cover with plastic wrap and chill for 8 hours or overnight. Remove pound cake slices from baking dish, and place on a cookie sheet that has been sprayed with cooking oil. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees until golden, about 20 minutes. Serve plain, or with toppings like toasted almond syrup, whole raspberry syrup, or simple, elegant powdered sugar.
