The band got their start by posting a few of their songs on MySpace. When they received a positive response, the group of seven members came together to form Hollywood Undead. Soon after the band began work on their debut album Swan Songs. And while the album only took about a year to record, Hollywood Undead spent an additional two years looking for a record label that wouldn't try and censor their music. Finally the band signed to A&M Octone Records and released their debut album Swan Songs in September 2008. The album was a surprise hit, debuting at #22 on the Billboard Charts and immediately gaining national attention. The song Undead entered the Top 10 of the Mainstream Rock Charts and was featured in the Madden 2009 video game. And the song Young became downloadable content for the popular video game Rock Band 2. Green Day Working Class Hero Live American Idol GREEN DAY stunned America on the finale of talent show AMERICAN IDOL the night of 23- May-07 with a performance of JOHN LENNON's WORKING CLASS HERO. The punk trio's surprise appearance on the hit show was staged to promote a new album of Lennon covers, Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur. The performance marked the first for any acts appearing on the charity album, which will help raise funds and awareness for Amnesty International's efforts for Darfur, Sudan. Billie Joe Armstrong says his group chose to perform Working Class Hero on the album because "its themes of alienation, class, and social status really resonated with us."
