The hosts of GMTV bid viewers their final goodbye this morning as the ITV breakfast show signed off for the final time after 17 years. The long-running ITV morning programme will be replaced by new show Daybreak, fronted by Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles, from Monday. Presenters Andrew Castle and Emma Crosby, along with weather girl Clare Nasir and TV critic Richard Arnold, bid fond farewells to the crew and viewers throughout the broadcast. Kate Garraway, who will remain with the show as Entertainment Editor, joined the hosts on the sofa with guests McFly to say their final goodbye. 'Like all families there have been squabbles along the way,' Andrew Castle said, 'but there has been no shortage of love, effort and perseverance, and we just want to say to the viewers who have been with us loyally for a long time, thank you so much.' Castle's 17-year-old daughter Georgia performed a song as the show came to a close as a tribute to her father's final day. 'She was seven years old when I started here,' said Andrew after the performance, 'and we've all grown together over the years.' The gracious hosts also wished their replacements luck: 'Daybreak starts on Monday, fingers crossed for them, we wish them all the best.' The mood in the ITV studios was festive, as crew members crowded in to watch the final telecast from behind the cameras, and cheered and applauded as the hosts signed off.
The final seven and a half minutes of the last ever edition of GMTV, as broadcast on Friday September 3rd 2010.
