Thousands of Hindu pilgrims have braved a winter chill by taking a dip in the Ganges River. The ritual, which is celebrated every three years and rotates to four different Indian cities, carries one of the world's largest religious congregations. In the first part of the Kumbh Mela or Pitcher Festival, Hindus gather in the city of Haridwar, located in the northern Himalayas. They believe the ritual bath washes away all sins and more than 50 million devotees from India and abroad are expected to arrive for a spiritual cleansing over the next few weeks. Al Jazeera's Prerna Suri reports. Jan 14, 2012
American journalist Glen Beck has dragged the holy River Ganges in an unholy controversy. He said that Ganges sounded like the name of a disease in his talk show The One Thing on Fox News. Becks statement has met with heavy criticism from all quarters of the world. A look at the top news stories at 6 am IST on Dec. 16,'09. For more news and analysis, log on to www.zeenews.com
I have done extensive amount of research on Hindu religious ceremonies that involve making offerings into bodies of water. Hindus revere the Ganges as an embodiment of purity, piety and spiritual rejuvenation. The Ganges and Her sister rivers all over the world are considered manifestations of the Goddess who descended onto earth for the welfare of mankind. Used in innumerable ways, water provides nourishment, sustenance and is the very lifeblood of our existence. Hindus make offerings to the Divine Mother by placing prescribed items in bodies of water. Offerings include flags, bamboo sticks, earthen lamps, flowers, icons, uncooked rice, dyes, cloths, foods and spices, fruits, milk, water and an assortment of other ingredients. Often times, unprescribed items, such as aluminum foil, accompany the offerings. The offerings made to Mother Ganga are re-enacted on a daily basis in every region on the globe where Hindus reside. Rivers from the Essequibo to the Orinoco and to the Jamaica Bay in New York have become the recipient of a multitude of offerings made by Indo-Caribbean Hindus. They intend to give back what they have received and to gratify the Goddess. However, at the Jamaica Bay in Queens, NY, Hindus have begun to attract the attention of authorities. Jamaica Bay surrounds the Gateway National Recreation Area, a preserve containing a wildlife refuge known for its biodiversity. While they are welcomed to perform ceremonies on the banks of the beaches, Hindus are ...
As you know, the River Ganges is a Holly River of India and It known as the Mother Ganges. But, I think, now its the time to think about The Mother Ganges of India. We all have to came forward to make it free from polution.
The Ganges river is the lifeblood of the Indian sub-continent. But its future is under threat, as indicated by a UN climate report which has shown that the Himalayan glaciers, which feed the river, may disappear by 2030, meaning large parts of the river could dry up. Hamish MacDonald reports from the Indian mountain region of Ladakh, where one man is trying to reverse the effects of global warming.

I have the great honour to present Ganges, another captivating soundscape out of the new album Wonders, composed and performed by Paul Lawler from the UK and Paul Speer from the USA. Wonders is a musical journey to awe inspiring places on Planet Earth. Please see Paul Speer's channel for more information: www.youtube.com or go to: www.paulspeer.com My heart felt thank you and sincere appreciation to Paul Speer and to Paul Lawler for this exciting and challenging collaboration! It was again a great pleasure for me, especially as for me Ganges also was a journey back in time with wonderful memories of India, a country full of wonders. The River Ganges is one of the major rivers of the Indian subcontinent, and it is one of the longest rivers in the world. The 2510km (1560 mi) river rises in the western Himalayas and drains into the Sunderbans delta in the Bay of Bengal. The average depth of the river is 52 feet (16 m), and the maximum depth is 100 feet (30 m). The Ganges Basin with its fertile soil is instrumental to the agricultural economies of India and Bangladesh. The Ganges and its tributaries provide a perennial source of irrigation to a large area. The Ganges has long been considered a holy river by Hindus and worshiped as the goddess Ganga in Hinduism, it is life and purity to the people of India. It is an integral part of the Indian culture, traditions, folklore, legends and a spiritual hub for people from all across planets. The legends that surround the mighty ...
In this 1986 performance, Peter Mintun plays the piano and Jim Roseveare (1942-1989) plays the mighty Loew's Ohio Morton pipe organ in the state capitol, Columbus. Photos were taken at rehearsal. Sherman Myers wrote the music and Chester Wallace wrote the words to this very popular song, copyrighted in Britain in 1926. Musicians have attached themselves to this song because of its playful use of descending chords, not unlike the later 'Sophisticated Lady' by Duke Ellington. Roseveare and Mintun performed a piano and organ concert at Oakland's (Calif.) Paramount Theatre, which led to an invitation to perform at this magnificent restored 1928 theatre. The theatre was designed by the architect Thomas Lamb, famous for his theatres. Like all movie palaces, the circumstances for which it was created ceased to exist and its future was doomed in 1969. Thanks to public outcry and the newly formed Columbus Association for the Performing Arts, enough money was raised to prevent demolition. The project became the first complete restoration of an American movie 'palace.' Mr. Roseveare is usually associated with the WurliTzer pipe organ, but had a deep appreciation for this Morton instrument, which was original to the structure. Also seen in this clip: British comedy team Jack Wilson & Joe Keppel, doing their famous sand dance.

Ganges and the Nile by David Rudder
Pollution in Ganges/ Ganga. The sacred river of Hinduism. People drink and bathe in this river. The water is believed to "HOLY." India claims to be a great country, but all the factories dump their waste in this river and the Government is doing nothing about it. Thousnads of people die everyday because of the pollution. Dead bodies are thrown into the river. The Marine life has completey vanished. THIS IS THE REAL INDIA.
