The Garland ISD Children's Chorus opened The American Heart Association 3K Walk on September 11, 2010 at Victory Park in downtown Dallas. About 40000 people were expected to be present. The children did a beautiful job singing "An American Anthem" ...by the time that they were finished singing, everyones heart was filled with patriotism. The GISD Childrens Chorus is made up of 4th and 5th graders representing nearly all 47 elementary schools in Garland. The choir is directed by Brenda Hass.

McCollum, theater arts teacher at Bryan Adams High School, has been named Dallas ISDs 2009-2010 Teacher of the Year, during a dinner sponsored by HEB Central Market. Teaching is the realization of my dream of becoming a movie star, because when I am reaching and teaching children, I truly do feel that stardom has been achieved.
