Jean played the title character in the episode "The Case of the Lost Love." Her character is the former love of Perry Mason (Raymond Burr), which doesn't make her husband (Gene Barry) too happy. Just as she is on the verge of becoming a senator, blackmail and murder join the picture.
Today's TV murders are solved by Crime Scene Investigators using their training in forensic science. But back in the 60's TV murders were solved by Handsome Debonair Bachelors using their intuition. I remember spending many an afternoon watching reruns of these shows. There was Surfside 6, which had the HDB's living together on a houseboat in Miami Beach (try to do that concept today), and there was Hawaiian Eye, which had the HDB's in well, Honolulu. There were others which I didn't get to watch- like 77 Sunset Strip. But the most debonair of all was Amos Burke, played by Gene Barry on the mid-sixties series Burke's Law. Here's the opening and close to an 1964* episode. Burke was the Chief of Detectives for the LAPD who just happened to be a millionaire with a mansion, and chauffered Rolls. Yeah, I know, but it was an amiable time-waster, and Barry was great. This little clip shows two of the show's trademarks- the great theme music, and the long listing of special guest stars, in Alphabetical order, of course. Also notice there was someone else named Regis who did TV back then. *= a look at the Goggle news archive reveals this particular episode was originally scheduled to air on Nov. 22, 1963.
