This is an advanced lecture for trigonometry students. A careful study shows that the sum angle formula for the sine follows for that of the cosine.
Professor Zap indicates that the sum angle formulas for sine and cosine are consequences of multiplication of complex numbers.
Professor Zap compares the lengths of a pair of congruent triangles to prove that Cos(AB)= Cos(A)Cos(B)+Sin(A)Sin(B)
[NOTE: This video is only 12 minutes of the full 3 hour lesson. Please visit my website to purchase complete version] This lesson consists of providing you with a Self-Tutorial on how to solve typical linear word problems (story problems or applied problems). The tutor shows you how to solve for a specific variable in formulas. He also discusses how to covert a repeating decimal into a fraction (which was skipped in Basic Math: Lesson 6 -"Fractions") and will teach you how to convert units of measurement. Examples of word problems done include: Finding a number based on certain criteria. Word problems involving some geometry (triangle, rectangle, circle). Age problems. Mixture problems. Money problems (story of my life!). Rate-Time-Distance problems. Percent Equations/problems. Ratio and Proportion (concepts and solving problems, including similar triangles). Problems dealing with Unit Price.
Special Right Triangles in Geometry: 45-45-90 and 30-60-90 degree triangles. In this video, I discuss two special right triangles, how to derive the formulas to find the lengths of the sides of the triangles by knowing the length of one side, and then do a few examples using them!
A series of partly new mathematical visualizations is introduced. A wide spectrum is covered, eg, functions, formulas, curves and knots, planar geometry, topology, tessellations, fractals, non-Euclidean and higher dimensional geometry, kinematics, mapping theory and minimal surfaces. Dr. Georg Glaeser is from The University of Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria. Note: Original video was 320x240.
This is a song that I and my friends composed for our Geometry and Trigonometry project, using the tune of the song "Thunder" by Boys like Girls. We wrote this song to inspire students to appreciate Math, despite the fact of its difficulty. ALL STUDENTS IN THE VIDEO are from section III - Saffron of Woodridge College, Batch 2009-2010. Hope this inspires you guys! Here are the LYRICS: "TRIGEOM" (to the tune of: Thunder) I. Speak to me of Geometry Tell me where to start and tell me something I dont knowwoah (woah) Today, Ill do my homework I cant solve the problems and I really need your help I dont know (I dont know) Refrain 2: And now Im teaching basic topics (Comprehend and analyze) You need to understand (Just to appreciate Math) We gotta solve the problems Maybe theres a way out Chorus 2: Compute using formulas and equations In finding volume and perimeter Before your grades are stroked by thunder, and I said ...

When the Quadrilateral Kingdom is taken over by the triangles, Sir William the Square and Sir Norbert the Concave set off on a quest to find the three secret area formulas in order to pull the sword of area from the stone and defeat the triangles. This is an extra credit project I had made for geometry class. While everyone else wrote and performed songs about what we had learned over the year or wrote and read a children's book about what we had learned, I made this beauty using Macromedia Flash 8. I composed, performed, and added the sound in later especially for this youtube version of William and Norbert's adventure. Sorry if the sound and picture aren't the best quality. If you want to show this to your friends, neighbors, teachers, or students but can't get youtube from where you're at (like your school), you can visit: www.quadrilateralareaquest.webs.com There's you'll find the Macromedia Flash version of the video (which won't have sound). I'm also planning on putting up the Windows Media Player file of the video (which will have sound) as well, along with a link back to here. I hope everyone enjoys it.
We look at a quantitative description of curves in space in terms of time dependent position vectors. We find a formula for the arc length of a curve or trajectory. We use the invariance of the scalar product to write the formula in terms of the metric tensor g(i,j). This leads to the famous differential form of the arc length: ds^2 = g(i,j) dx(i) dx(j). These formulas are general and work in higher dimensions.

Algebra Applications: Series Description The Algebra Applications series brings real-world, relevant applications of algebra to today's classroom. This series also integrates technology through the use of the Texas Instruments TI-Nspire graphing calculator. The key features of this series include: * Guided applications that are interdisciplinary and can be done as an in-class group activity. * All keystrokes are clearly shown. * Dynamic footage and animations bring math to life. * Math concepts are developed clearly, making this series an ideal supplement to an Algebra 1 or Algebra 2 class. Algebra Applications: Variables and Equations In this episode of Algebra Applications, two real-world explorations are developed: - Biology. Honey bees not only produce a tasty treat, they also help pollinate flowering plants that provide much of the food throughout the world. So, when in 2006 bee colonies started dying out, scientists recognized a serious problem. Analyzing statistics from honey bee production allows for a mathematical analysis of the so-called Colony Collapse Disorder. Key math concepts covered include variables, equations, formulas, ratios and proportions, and box and whisker plots. Students use the Lists and Spreadsheets, Calculator, and Statistics features of the TI-Nspire. - Geology. Why do rivers meander instead of traveling in a straight line? In going from point A to point B, why should a river take the circuitous route it does instead of a direct path ...
Sacred geometry is geometry used in the design of sacred architecture and sacred art. The basic belief is that geometry and mathematical ratios, harmonics and proportion are also found in music, light, cosmology. This value system is seen as widespread even in prehistory, a cultural universal of the human condition. It is considered foundational to building sacred structures such as temples, mosques, megaliths, monuments and churches; sacred spaces such as altars, temenoi and tabernacles ...
