www.totalfemalehockeyclub.com Coach Kim mccullough from Total Female Hockey shares her #1 tip to help girls hockey players stay focused on the ice. Players have to pick just ONE THING they are going to focus on. There are a million things going on out on the ice and a million different things players could focus on, but the key is to get them to stay focused on just ONE THING. If theyre a goalie, maybe its focusing on controlling rebounds. If theyre a forward, maybe its making sure that all of their shots hit the net. If they play defense, maybe its making sure that they keep the attacking forwards to the outside on 1-on-1s. It doesnt really matter what they pick because learning how to stay laser focused on just one thing is going to do amazing things for their performance. And the added bonus is that getting players to focus on just one thing every time they hit the ice makes life so much easier for parents and coaches. Instead of just telling players to Stay focused, you can ask them EXACTLY what they are focusing on for that day. If youre the coach, ask them during practice, What are you focusing on today? Once you know what they are focusing on, it is so much easier to help them to improve. The same thing goes for parents. You can ask your players after practice or after a game, What did you pick to focus on today? It so much easier to help players stay on track and to help them reach their goals when there is just ONE THING that they are really focused on working on ...
