A series of short time-lapse scenes depicting Montana's Glacier National Park.
The Middle Fork is straining its banks as the high mountain snows start to melt. Its usual blue-green color has been replaced with a rich muddy brown.
Snyder Creek is beginning to swell as the winter snows finally start to melt. This video was taken at the confluence of the creek and Lake McDonald, just in front of Lake McDonald Lodge. The DeSmet is visible in the background. In a few weeks it will be transporting visitors around Lake McDonald.
Black Bear climbing a tree in Glacier National Park. Taken by Jay Roach.
Shows the 2009 huge avalanche area riding down the road.
Going to the Sun Road is a stunning, narrow, twisting road with deep drop-offs to valleys below. A spectacular ride on a motorcycle. This is a high alpine road across Glacier National Park in Montana, USA, filmed as part of the True American Road Trip for Victory Motorcycles.
This is a first person point of view (pov) through west glacier national park in montana. This is the lower portion of the park up to Lake McDonald. Beyond that, going to Logan Pass and Going to the Sun, the road was closed until they get it plowed out. Still lots of pretty nature scenery and watch the segment with the deer. They were practically right next to the car door. It was amazing. 2011.
Crews had started plowing through the slide at Red Rock Point. Some years there is hardly any snow at this location, but not this year. The slide this year is a big one.
Spend a little time with us as we tour the Many Glacier Hotel, a historic hotel located within Glacier National Park, on the east shore of Swiftcurrent Lake. This is one of the Grand Lodges built by Louis Hill of the Great Northern Railway. The building is designed as a series of chalets, up to four stories tall, and stretches for a substantial distance along the beautiful lakeshore. The building has a Swiss alpine theme both on the outside and on the inside. The outside is finished with brown-painted wood siding, and the window framing and balconies have wood sawn in Swiss jig sawn patterns. On the inside, the four-story lobby is surrounded by balconies, whose railings are patterned after Swiss designs. Related video: www.youtube.com
Don't be squeamish as we make our way up Going-to-the-Sun highway to the top of Logan Pass. Walk with us past the alpine wildflowers to beautiful Hidden Lake. We are almost always guaranteed to spot a mountain goat as they have become adjusted to summertime human visitation. The video does not do justice to the sheer splendor of Glacier National Park! 10/30/2010 When we last left our hero, he was in the backcountry of Glacier National Park. After realizing venturing further into grizzly country would be a bad idea, I decided to pack up camp and head back towards civilization. Taking the long route North around the head of Lake McDonald, I passed the trailhead noted on my itinerary which went to Trout and Arrow lakes. It was a sigh of relief to when the gravel road I'd been walking on for a little over a mile turned into asphalt. Crossing McDonald Creek, which feeds Lake McDonald, more vehicle traffic started to appear. Going to the Sun Road was not far ahead. At which point, I turned South and hiked the East side of the lake. It was at about that point my feet began to swell with blisters. The farther I went, the more pain I endured. It would not have been an issue had more campgrounds been open, but the nearest one was back in Apgar... at the foot of the lake. I passed onlookers and tourists, as well as a film crew from a company in Chicago called Super Stock Footage. After my fourth water and snack break, my feet were now raw. The pain was excruciating! It was by the grace of God himself that a passer-by asked if I could use a ride. Her name was Anne, and if I didn't know any better, I could swear I saw a halo over her head and wings in the shape of trekker's poles. The care ride the last Two and a half miles into Apgar was a welcome escape. She dropped me off at the permit office, and drove away into the clouds. I ...
10/24 Day number one was fun. I boarded the train and waved goodbye to my family. The first night was rough. I've determined there's no comfortable way to sleep in these coach seats. .. which explains why they're able to sell roomettes. I had to get a few drinks in my system just to be able to get some shut eye. Forty five bucks later, I slept for six hours. We're almost to Philly now, arriving at ten in the morning. Still have to meet Rob in New York for lunch! New York is scheduled for Eleven Thirty Six in the morning. I met another backpacker in the lounge car last night. He's from Peru, and carries whiskey in his aluminum water bottle. Bruce, my seatmate, wanted me to send him a postcard from Montana. He gave me his address and a stamp. 10/26 I woke up as we're rolling through North Dakota. It's funny because it was really the only state I was able to recognize so far. Lunch in New York with Rob was amazing! We went to a famous deli called Katz's. The sandwich had about a pound of fresh cut meat stacked in it, with a whole bowl of pickles on the side. The train from New York to Chicago was somewhat lackluster. With a name like the Lakeshore Limited, I expected to see more "Lake". Chicago was awesome. I met an English tourist named Andy outside of the Willis Tower. He was all about the ladies, yet offered me a fag, haha... English for a cigarette. The Willis tower was huge! I didn't go to the top though. That's a Sixteen dollar trip while I only had Eighty in my pocket ...

Glacier National Park celebrates 100 years as a national park. Today, visitors to Glacier still feel the connection to the past when visionary people like George Bird Grinnell worked to preserve this special place. Native Americans have inhabited this land for over 12000 years. It is the ancestral home of the Blackfeet, Salish and Kootenai tribes. To them, these mountains have great spiritual significance. In the early days of Glacier, you might find people doing many of the same things people are doing today. Horseback riding, hiking, riding tour boats, fishing and exploring the glacial landscape. Four great historic lodges return the visitor to a different era. The Red Buses take visitors over Going-to-the-Sun Road, and historic boats like the Running Eagle and Chief Two Guns still cruise alpine lakes under some of the most beautiful places in America. For lodging information, visit www.glacierparkinc.com. To learn more about the park's natural and cultural history, visit www.glacierassociation.org. Filmed in high definition, this bonus feature is part of Finley-Holiday's new Centennial Edition Glacier National Park DVD. A portion of the proceeds from each DVD sold are donated to directly to Glacier National Park.
In 1910, when Glacier National Park was first established, early sightseers found that boat tours offered a comfortable and adventurous way to see the parks wild landscape. In 1929, a Flathead Valley boat builder Billy Swanson finished building the DeSmet, a 57- foot-long boat that he launched onto Lake McDonald. It's been in operation ever since. The DeSmet was the latest in a series of boats built by Swanson starting in the 1920s including Chief Two Guns, Morning Eagle, Sinopah and the International. Today, one hundred years after the park's opening, these same classic boats still operate on Glacier's alpine lakes as part of the Glacier Park Boat Company a company owned and operated by the same family that ran tours on the lakes way back in the 1920s. For an adventure you won't soon forget, take a ride on Glacier's historic boats. For more information, visit www.glacierparkboats.com Filmed in high definition, this bonus feature is part of Finley-Holiday's new Centennial Edition Glacier National Park DVD. A portion of the proceeds from each DVD sold are donated to directly to Glacier National Park.
These are photos from several backpacking trips in the North Fork area of GNP - Boulder Pass trail, Bowman Lake, Quartz Lake Loop, Hole in the Wall, Penguin Lake and more. Its a beautiful trail. There are great views along the way. Lots of wildflowers, esp around the Hole in the Wall cirque. Its very common to see mountain goats, marmots and pika at the Boulder Pass campground. The Kintla Lakes and Bowman Lake are beautiful. This trail can begin or end in Canada, the other end will take you to Polebridge via gravel roads. Polebridge is a great place to stop and stock up on some cookies, pastries or sandwiches.
This video is a slide show of photos from three summers of backpacking in Glacier National Park with Glacier Guides. The photos were taken while hiking or camping and are of scenery, lakes, mountains, wild flowers, wildlife and of guests from my trips. Many different places in the park are in the video including the Highline Trail, Boulder Pass Trail, The Belly River, Redgap Pass, Two Medicine, Cut Bank, Gunsight Pass, Triple Divide, Many Glacier, Dawson-Pitamakin, Logan Pass, Grinnell Glacier and more. Some of the animals include moose, grizzly bears, pika, ptarmigan, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, deer, and fish caught while fishing in some of the lakes. A big thanks goes out to all the guests of Glacier Guides who have taken a vacation here - you make all of this possible!
thought I would put together some footage of my trip through glacier national park in montana while riding the empire builder amtrak train. This was leaving whitefish heading through the park during winter. Thought I would get marie and dan to help me out a little and let them sing a little ditty while you watch the stunning and beautiful views. This was filmed during my trip to kalispell 2009 - 2010. I should have a couple more of these videos set to different music on my channel. So be sure to watch them!
