Google Tech Talk April 5, 2010 ABSTRACT Presented by David D. Levine. In January 2010 I spent two weeks at the Mars Desert Research Station, a simulated Mars base in the Utah desert. Although the Martian conditions were simulated, the science was real, as were the isolation, hostile environment, and problems faced by the six-person crew. Although my official title was Crew Journalist, I soon found myself repairing space suits, helping to keep the habitat running, and having interplanetary adventures I'd never before imagined. My talk on the experience is profusely illustrated with photographs and has gotten rave reviews. Please see bentopress.com for more information. My name is David D. Levine and I'm a science fiction writer. I've sold over 40 short stories to all the major markets, including Asimov's and Analog, and I've won a Hugo Award, been nominated for the Nebula, and won or been shortlisted for many other awards as well as appearing in numerous Year's Best anthologies. I retired in 2007 after a 25-year career as a technical writer, software engineer, and user interface designer for Tektronix, Intel, and McAfee and now spend my days writing, traveling, and getting into trouble. For more on me, see www.bentopress.com

NEW YORK (youtue.com) -- Although they get all the press, phones aren't actually the only devices that make up our rapidly expanding world of mobile communications. Laptops and portable game consoles are also being widely used by on-the-go consumers. And companies like Yahoo and Google are paying close attention to that. Both sponsored expansive free wifi services for the holidays. Yahoo's blanketed Times Square, while Google's took to the airports and skies beyond.

Google Tech Talk November 12, 2009 ABSTRACT Presented by David Rock. In his new book "Your Brain at Work," coach David Rock depicts the story of two people over one day at the office, and what's happening in their brains that makes it so hard to focus and be productive. Not only does he explain why things go wrong, but how you can train your brain to improve thinking and performance at work. Based on interviews with 30 neuroscientists, he's developed strategies to help you work smart all day. Learn how to: · Maximize your mental energy by understanding your brain's limits · Overcome distractions · Improve your focus through understanding the nature of attention · Reduce stress levels with brain-based techniques · Improve how you collaborate by understanding the social needs of the brain You can learn to be more productive, less stressed and stay sane by understanding your brain. Do you have time to search the web everyday to find the newest and coolest social media tools? If the answer is no, then you have come to the right place. I have searched the World Wide Web for social media information all week, and stumbled upon a few favorites along the way. Here are my picks of the week: Googles Holiday Gift bit.ly Whether youre traveling for business or pleasure this holiday season, the Internet provides a great way to kill time at the airport, especially when its FREE. This holiday season, Google is giving the gift of wifi. On Tuesday, Google announced that they were offering free wifi in 47 airports across the nation, November 10, 2009 through January 15, 2010. View the full list of participating airports here: www.freeholidaywifi.com Tweet on linkedin bit.ly Last week, linkedin was testing out a redesign. This week, theyve forged a partnership with Twitter. Now you can update your linkedin status on Twitter, or update your Twitter status on linkedin. Gaming Gets Social bit.ly bit.ly Weve heard news that social networking features were in the process of being integrated into Xbox Live. In fact, the new Facebook and Twitter feeds will be available for Xbox Live next Tuesday, November 17, 2009. What we didnt know until it was leaked this week was that social networking features are most likely coming to playstation 3 as well. Although Sony declined to comment, there are still claims that Facebook may soon be available on playstation 3. Follow & Wave bit.ly What was a Twitter trending topic for part of Thursday has become one of my picks of the week. On Thursday, Google added a follow feature to Google Wave. Now, you can follow or unfollow public waves youre interested in and receive updates as they happen. Control Your Groups bit.ly I have a few issues with Facebook Groups. First off, deleting a group is a hassle. If you want to delete a group you created, you have to remove all admins other than yourself, delete every member of the group, and then leave the group. Second of all, if you are the only admin and you leave a group, anyone can swoop in and take over admin responsibilities. The second scenario was proved all to well when hundreds of Facebook groups were highjacked. Luckily, they were only temporarily taken over by Control Your Info. Their goal: to stress the importance of controlling your information on Facebook. -- In response to the needs of an advertising and public relations industry in heavy flux, Feedback is born as a shop entirely dedicated to new & social media. www.feedbackagency.com Fan us here: www.facebook.com Read us here: feedbackagency.com Follow us here: twitter.com
