My second weekend trip up the NEC from WAS to NYP and back to BAL. Basically, on Friday I took an Amtrak Regional from Washington Union Station (WAS) to Trenton (TRE), then NJ Transit from Trenton to New York Penn Station (NYP), then then Amtrak's Empire Service from NYP to Yonkers (YNY). On Sunday I took the LIRR from Central Islip to Penn Station, and then the Acela Express to Baltimore Penn Station (BAL). I could have gotten even more since I had great shots of the new MARC diesels as well as 3 electrics (2 HHP-8, 1 AEM-7) coupled together, the NJT ACES train, a SEPTA push-pull and two R7 Silverliner sets, not to mention the Empire Service train I rode on, but I wasn't as trigger happy with my camera on the way back. This is part 1 of a new series I'm started that shows me making the New Haven Line route for Microsoft's Train Simulator. I am doing this so that other people can learn how to route edit by watching what I do, and also so I can get advice on how to make the route better and to fix any mistakes I might make. If you are unfamiliar with this project, this is a route that will cover Metro-North's New Haven Line from Grand Central Terminal in New York to New Haven, CT's Union Station. Also included is Amtrak's Northeast Corridor from New Rochelle, NY to New York's Penn Station. This project has been around since last summer however due to logical errors made and computer issues since then, we are still in the trackage phase. As it stands, trackage is complete between both stations in NYC and New Rochelle. I did build trackage east of there a few months back however I later found it to be way off course so I have to redo it. Part 1 of this series starts with me redoing trackage from east of the station through the small yard and ending at the curve around MP 17.5, roughly halfway between New Rochelle and Larchmont stations.
