Day trip over to Mackinac Island from Saint Ignace by way of ferry.
Once we got off the boat at Mackinac Island we took a carriage ride around the island and it took us to all the sweet sights like The Grand Hotel, Rock Archway, Fort Mackinac, The Post Cemetery where they fly the flag at 1/2 staff all year 1 of 3 the others being Arlington National Cemetery and Gettysburg. It was a great time for me and my family. Schmoo
Approaching the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, MI. There are no cars allowed on the island, so horses or bicycles are the only options
A view from room 342 taken May 2010 it is trully a lovely hotel.
We made a trip up to Mackinac Michigan and rode the Shepler's Ferry over to Mackinac Island in June/July 2010. It was a great time with beautiful weather to visit the wonderful Island on Lake Huron. Mackinac Island throws you back in time sort of because motorized vehicles have been prohibited on the island since 1898, with the exception of snowmobiles during winter, emergency vehicles, and service vehicles. So travel on the island is either by foot, bicycle, or horse-drawn carriage. A little more on the island: Mackinac Island (pronounced /ˈmækɨnɔː/ MAK-in-aw) is a city in Mackinac County in the US state of Michigan. At the 2000 census, the city had a permanent population of 523, although there are thousands more seasonal workers and tourists during the summer months. Mackinac Island is about 8 miles (13 km) in circumference and 3.8 square miles (9.8 km) in total area. The island can be reached by private boat, by ferry, by small aircraft, and in the winter, by snowmobile. Mackinac Island was formed as the glaciers of the last ice age began to melt around 13000 BC. A vacation trip that everyone should take at least once! From Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park to the northern most point of Copper Harbor, lighthouses and the grandeur of Lake Superior abound. A Hydro-Jet boat ride to Mackinac Island is the best way to travel to the scenic island Lake Huron community where no motorized vehicles are allowed. Take a tour of the island by horse and carriage, or set out on your own bicycle. Don't forget to buy some fudge! The Grand Hotel is certainly that - grand! A trip across the Mackinac Island Bridge is a must. Try a pastie at a local cafe. Our finale was a fish boil in Door County, Wisconsin. Delicious and entertaining! America the Beautiful. True Y'dstoti!
My family and I made a trip up to Michigan to the Mackinac Island area to see the area and what it had to offer. It is a very nice area up there and very scenic! This Butterfly Conservatory in on Mackinac Island in which you have to take a Ferry over to see. The only thing on the Island used as transportation are bicycles and horses and we took a Horse Carriage Tour around the Island to see its beauty. I'll have more footage of the Island in another video soon.. Here is a little about the Butterfly Conservatory and their website: It is an all-glass Conservatory with its beautiful lush plants surrounded by hundreds of butterflies, dancing around you to gentle instrumental music. Enjoy observing these fascinating creatures as they fly within our specially designed butterfly greenhouse. Knowledgeable curators and colorful exhibits teach you about the metamorphosis from egg to larvae (caterpillar) to pupa (chrysalis) and finally to the adult butterfly. www.wingsofmackinac.com The background music used here is called "Clean Air' by Kevin Macleod: www.incompetech.com
