YNN reports on Rochester Institute of Technology's commemoration of the International Day of Climate Action, featuring a bike ride from downtown Rochester to the RIT campus. It may not always be the right weather for a bike ride around here, but as they say wait 5 minutes and it'll change. The rain Saturday morning didn't stop a group of environmentally conscious riders from hitting the trail. The purpose: to mark the International Day of Climate Action. "Once it gets into the colder weather, that's when a lot of people don't ride anymore, said James Kubiniec, part of the group that started at the Rundel Library in Downtown Rochester. But you can do it. Just gear up." They pedaled their way to RIT, but this wasn't your everyday bike ride. Today we are getting together for 350.org, said Jesse Harrington, a RIT Grad Student. It's a national move for climate change and climate action." The group, 350.org, wants to push world leaders to sign a treaty in Copenhagen in December that would cap carbon emissions. But this also has a local touch. "Today, specifically, we are riding to advocate bicycle lanes in Rochester," added Harrington. The hope is to get more bike lanes throughout Rochester and to cut down on car traffic by creating a covered bike path stretching from downtown Rochester to the University of Rochester and RIT. It would give people to choice to ride their bikes, regardless of whether it's raining or snowing. "There's no direct path from RIT to downtown for bikes ...
New York Cities Greenway from west 181st to west 42nd st. I began my journey in the Bronx, on Sedgwick ave & west Burnside. I then got on University ave until I reached Washington Bridge, which connects uptown Bronx to Uptown Manhattan. Once in Manhattan I headed west toward the Hudson River, where I then entered the Greenway bike path at 181st. I traveled the bike path all the way to 42nd street and proceeded east to 8th ave until I arrived to work at Madame Tussaud's wax museum.

What do hip-hop and sustainability have in common? More than you might think. A free, interactive expo on Saturday, April 11, at Baker University Center will blend the ideas of hip-hop and sustainability to find ways to improve urban and rural communities. The event will run from 8 am to 4:30 pm "We wanted to do something positive using the activist and progressive elements of the hip-hop culture," said Assistant Professor of African American Studies Akil Houston, one of the expo's organizers. "So many times you hear the negative aspects of hip-hop. Instead of focusing on what hip-hop is not, we wanted to show what it is." The expo will feature three sets of concurrent workshops that will address topics such as greening your life, poetry writing and performance, and hip-hop's relationship with the media. A student-led discussion about sustainability in the Athens community is also on the agenda. Students will also be asked to write their sustainability solutions on the expo's graffiti wall. Majora Carter, an award-winning environmental justice activist, will deliver the keynote address. She is a co-host on Sundance Channel's "The Green" and host of a public radio show titled "The Promised Land." Carter has gained national prominence for the work of her non-profit environmental organization, Sustainable South Bronx. Under her leadership, it has developed green-collar job training and placement systems in economically depressed US cities. In 2005 she won a $500000 MacArthur ...
