The role of Clerks within the Brigade of Gurkhas has been officially recognised with the creation of a new company. It means for the first time the Brigade will have their own Gurkha SPS cap badged clerks. In 2009 the go ahead was given for the formation of a new Gurkha Staff and Personnel Support or SPS company. In addition approval was also given for a new Gurkha SPS Cap Badge and tactical recognition flashes. The new company were presented with their cap badges on a rather wet and blustery evening in Shorncliffe by General Sir David Richards in his role as Colonel Commandant of the Brigade of Gurkhas.

A LONE Gurkha fought off an attack by 30 Taliban fanatics with just a chunk of metal and a sandbag after running out of ammunition. Sergeant Dipprasad Pun, 31, facing a surprise attack at a Afghanistan checkpoint, used superhuman strength to hoist a 50lb machine gun off its mount to blast at the enemy. When they kept coming, he launched 17 grenades and picked up an SA80 assault rifle, only for it to jam. Then he threw the machine gun's metal tripod at his attackers, before fending them off with a sandbag while yelling in Nepali: "I will kill you!" With nothing left to hand, the exhausted hero finally managed to fire off a Claymore mine, and the blast sent the enemy scattering. Yesterday, Sgt Pun's extraordinary courage in Helmand province earned him the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross at a special ceremony in London. The soldier's medal citation said his actions saved the lives of three comrades and prevented the key military position he was guarding from being overrun. The married soldier, who lives in Ashford, Kent, said: "I was really scared but as soon as I opened fire that was gone. I knew I had to kill them. "I thought they were going to kill me after a couple of minutes, definitely. "Looking back at it, I realise I'm a very lucky guy, a survivor. It is great to get this award. I am very happy." The sergeant in the Royal Gurkha Rifles told how he was on night-time sentry duty on September 17 last year when he discovered insurgents laying an improvised explosive device ...

Mind blowing chopping performance from a knife. That's the Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri. Born in design from the traditional Nepalese Kukri design, the CS Kukri is updated with proven modern materials and design: SK-5 (Japanese 1080) high carbon steel, longer and flared Kraton grip (love it, absorbs shock well), full flat grinding (love it, preferred), a tip capable of pierce cutting, and an outstanding lightweight Secure-Ex plastic sheath. This sheath carries the Kukri securely, is quick attachable, has a metal snap retention strap (not cheesy Velcro), and won't retain water (critical for real multi-day adventures). Blade execution aside, It gives substantial advantage to this Cold Steel version. Unlike most traditional Kukri offerings, the quality is known, documented, and backed up by a USA factory warranty. This design dominated my cutting tests, even when pitted against other favored and proven large blades (Ontario RTAK II, Junglas). The weight forward, curved, FFG blade blasts through wood, minimizing work and calorie expenditures (be careful in cutting, it will remove your arm). While it is a heavy 31 ounces, the 5/16" inch thick Gurkha Kukri fulfills the wilderness role with results that demand respect (batoning performance was not evaluated here). The steel showed outstanding edge retention and toughness in testing and this Kukri has a precise razor sharp geometry (unlike some native designs). The blade curvature accelerates cutting, especially when the knife is ...

www.timesofearth.com Kabul - An Afghan soldier is on the run after killing three British Gurkha-Nepali soldiers in southern Helmand province. Several other soldiers were wounded in the attack near Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital of the restive province where about 9000 British troops fighting Taliban forces are based. The troops killed were Gurkhas, who are drawn from Nepal. "We confirm that an Afghan army solider has opened fire and killed three British soldiers," Mohammad Zahir Azimi, the Afghan defence ministry spokesman, said. An investigation into the incident is under way, officials said. "This is a combined, joint mission, Afghan and Alliance troopers fighting shoulder-to-shoulder against the Taliban and other extremists," General David Petraeus, US and Nato commander in Afghanistan, said in a statement. "We have sacrificed greatly together, and we must ensure that the trust between our forces remains solid in order to defeat our common enemies. "On behalf of all the troopers of Isaf [International Security Assistance Force], I offer sincere condolences to the families and the fellow service members of our fallen comrades." Hamid Karzai, the Afghan president, sent a letter of condolence to Nato and Britain and offered his apologies over the incident. Waheed Omar, a spokesman for the president, said that Karzai had asked the defence ministry to find out more about the incident. "If it is confirmed, it's a very unfortunate attack and the government of Afghanistan ...

The Brigade of Gurkhas is the collective term for units of the current British Army that are composed of Nepalese soldiers. The regimental march is, "Yo Nepali". Performed by The Band of the Royal Corps of Signals.
Despite usage in the military, the kukri is most commonly used as a woodcutting and general purpose tool, and is a very common agricultural and household implement in Nepal. A kukri designed for general purpose is commonly 16 to 18 inches (around 4045 cm) in overall length and weighs one to two pounds (around 450-900 grams). Bigger examples are impractical for everyday use and are rarely found except in collections or as ceremonial instruments. Smaller ones are of more limited utility, but very easy to carry. A kukriAlthough a popular urban legend states that a Gurkha "never sheathes his blade without first drawing blood", the kukri is most commonly employed as a multi-use utility tool, rather like a machete. It can be used for building, clearing, chopping firewood, digging, cutting meat and vegetables, skinning and also for opening tins

Mounted on the Ford F550 chassis, repair and spare parts are available throughout the worldwide Ford Motor Company. The GURKHA may be armored to the NATO STANAG 4569 level 3 which exceeds the CEN European B7 armor level. With its hollow cavity walls filled with blast protective materials, the side armor provides excellent protection against side load IEDs. In addition to its frontal armor, the firewall is a second armored wall that further protects the driver and front passenger from a frontal attack. As well as the foregoing, the floor is protected from blast and even with this superior armored protection, the payload after armoring is still in excess of 2041kg (4500lbs).
Cigar Reviews review cigarobsession.com Gurkha Centurion Cigar Review This 6x60 dark chocolate wrapped perfecto offers a draw on the firm side, and 5 inches of normal burn after getting past and clipping the tapered ends. Showing several transitions, flavors included a creamy buttery leather, chocolate, big pepper blasts without the spice, deep earth and a long finish for most of the smoke. At the last third, flavors changed to a huge deep roasted coffee that was increasingly creamy to the nub. Smoke output was very light at the start, taking 20 minutes to open up to just normal. It was on the light side but always smooth, delivering a medium-full bodied experience overall. The ash held on for 2" at a time with no burn issues. Thank you very much to Ken Glass for sending this in for review, I greatly appreciate it! Photography by BG Pictures.

These are The Gurkhas who come from Nepal, They fight for The British People and Crown and are amongst the Most Fierce Warriors in the World.
Who are the Gurkha? The Gurkha are the fame Unit in the British and the Indian armed forces. Gurkha are also serving in the Singapore and Brunei forces. The Gurkha are formed by Indo-Mongoloid men from Nepal namely from Magar, Gurung, Rai and Limbu communities. Neolithic tools found in the Kathmandu Valley indicate that people have been living in the Himalayan region for at least 9000 years. The foremost settlers in this region was the Indo-Mongoloid people who are termed as "Kiratas" in Veda and other ancient literature. In Sanskrit, Kirata means native of the land with "kiram atati bhramati yah" or one wandering over the forests. Kiratas are first mentioned in the Yajurveda (Shukla XXX.16; Krisha III.4,12,1), and in the Atharvaveda (X.4,14), describing them as "mountain people and hunters in the forests and deadly warriors." In Manu's Dharmashastra (X.44) they are mentioned as degraded Kshatriyas, which meant that they were considered to be of advanced civilization, but outside the ambit of Brahminical influence. Kiratas are also mentioned in ancient Greek history, Chinese history and Holy book of Sikh Guru Nanak. The Greeks had known the Kirats by the name of Kirhadai. The last remnant of the ancient Kiratite or Cherethite tribe was found recorded in the book of 2 Samuel, 15 - 18. They were a martial tribe during the reign of the Syrian King David in 1049 BC. Kiratas appearance in vedic literature is described as gold-like, ie, yellow in color in skin color with the ...

This video is about the Gurkha culture and tradition. In this video you see a Gurkha with his ceremonial Khukri decapitating the buffalo during the Great Gurkha Festival call Dashera. By decapitating the beast with one single strike, it gives least or no pain to the animal. If the person cannot strike down the animal with clean first strike, then according to the Gurkha custom, a bad luck will follow him. So a skill and big heart is needed to perform this ceremonial rite. Who are the Gurkha? The Gurkha are the fame Unit in the British and the Indian armed forces.
