New Delhi: Less than a month after terror struck Pune a top Indian Mujahideen operative was been arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police's Anti-Terror Squad on Friday night from a village near the Indo-Nepal border. The accused, Salman, was behind almost every blast carried out by the Indian Mujahideen and was coordinating the terror group's activities in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The 21-year Indian Mujahideen is one the core members of the terror outfit and involved in almost every serial blast in the country after 2006. New Delhi: The Indian Mujahideen (IM) are trying to re-group and recruit new cadre that's what has emerged from the interrogation of 21-year-old Salman, an alleged IM operative. A Delhi court has sent Salman to eight days of police custody. The Indian Mujahideen has been recruiting new cadres to make up for the loss of several of its top members, who were arrested following blasts in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Delhi between 2007 and 2008. The revelations have been made by the 21-yr-old, Salman, who has allegedly been involved in almost all activities of the Indian Mujahideen since 2005. New Delhi: Arrested Indian Mujahideen operative Salman has revealed that the organisation's new recruiting grounds are now in South India. Salman claimed that hit hard by the arrest of its cadre between 2008 and 2009, the Indian Mujahideen has launched a fresh recruitment drive. Investigators say that the terror group has traded its traditional bases in Uttar Pradesh for South India. Salman has reportedly told interrogators that the bulk of the men whom he trained with in Pakistan were from the South, especially from Bhatkal and Mangalore in Karnataka. Some of the Indian Mujahideen's new members were also from Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. Interestingly Bhatkal village in Karnataka is the hometown of Riyaz and Iqbal Bhatkal who allegedly masterminded the Delhi serial blast and possibly the Pune blast as well. Investigators say one of the reasons for the Indian Mujahideen to shift down south could be several arrests from the Azamgarh base and a constant scrutiny by intelligence agencies. The reason was enough for founder members like the Bhatkal brothers to try and exploit their other existing bases in states like Karnataka and Kerala. BANGALORE: The Bangalore police on Monday unmasked the gun runners behind the Dawood Ibrahim gang in the city. The arrests came days after the arrest of three other Dawood gangsters from Jhankhand and Uttar Pradesh who were involved in gun running as well. The arrested Dawoods men are: Mohammed Ayub (28) of Banashankari, Fairoz (32) and Ansar (22) of Hoskote. The sleuths have recovered one pistol, three revolvers and 21 rounds of ammunition. Sources revealed that the three men set up an arms manufacturing factory in Karnataka and manufactured guns under the US tag. These arrests could just be the tip of the iceberg of the underworld menace in Bangalore. Last month, sleuths busted a gun-running racket and arrested Hussain Sab from Gadag, Nawab Barkatulla (Bihar) and Mohammed Siraj (Jharkhand). The three had taken shelter in a madrassa near Chitradurga, procured arms from a state in north India and sold them to various gangs.
