Faiz Ahmad Faiz فیض احمد فیض (takhallus: Faiz) was born on 13 February 1911 in Sialkot سیالکوٹ, Punjab, Pakistan (then in British India). His parents were Sultan Fatima (mother) and Sultan Muhammad Khan. Sultan Muhammad Khan had been the Chief Secretary of Emir (the ruler) Abdur Rehman Khan of Afghanistan (Emir: 1880-1901). His three sons were Tufail (the eldest), Faiz, and Inayat (the youngest). He practiced law and it seems that although he was not very rich, he was among the prominent citizens of Sialkot. As a young boy, Faiz would accompany his father every day to the local mosque for the dawn (fajar) prayers where Maulvi Ibrahim Mir Sialkoti would give lectures on the Quran. Later on, in the evenings, he would write letters and read newspapers for his father. This helped his literary skills in Urdu and English. Close to his house was a bookshop which rented books at 2 paisas / book. He was an avid reader of Urdu and English books. Also close to his house was a house with a big courtyard (haveli) where Urdu mushairas were held in winters. They were organized by Pandit Raj Narain Armaan and presided by Munshi Sirajuddin (a friend of Allama Iqbal and the Mir Munshi or Chief Secretary of the Maharajah of Kashmir). He read poetry in a few of these mushairas and had started composing poetry in Grade 10. He studied at the Scotch Mission School, and then at Murray College (both in Sialkot). He was fortunate to have teachers like Syed Mir Hassan (Arabic), whose title was ...

I really didn't mean this to turn out a poem kind of thing, it just happened when I started writing. It's a response to MissLizenka's video "Therapy stuff - try it!". It's what I would tell a past me if I had the chance. It's what I wish someone would have told me. It's what I tell myself now. And it's what I would like to tell any other child, teenager or grown up in a similar situation that I was or am in. my dear, you are not weak, you are STRONG! it was *him*, not you, you did NOTHING WRONG! it was NOT YOUR FAULT, you are NOT TO BLAME! and there is no reason for you to feel HIS SHAME! you are BEAUTIFUL, even in what you became! and there will be a time when YOUR LIFE you'll reclaim! and there are GOOD PEOPLE everywhere, wherever you stand, REACH OUT to them, they'll take your hand! you DESERVE TO BE HAPPY! you DESERVE TO BE FREE! you don't believe me now, but in time you will see. We all deserve to be loved! We all deserve to have someone there to tell us so. We all deserve to have someone to help us when we can't help ourselves. I included two verses adressing others than myself. Miss J. was a teacher in one of my first years at school and one of the few people who ever asked me if there was anything going on at home I wanted to tell her (after I kicked and hit her when she tried to hug me). I did want to tell her, but I was scared and unfortunately she gave up after asking me once. I wanted to tell her after that, but I couldn't start the topic myself and she never ...
I would like to clarify that these lyrics are NOT A TRANSLATION of the existing song, and the meanings have nothing to do with the Japanese version. Even though I have written the English lyrics myself, Nobuo Uematsu deserves all the credit for the instrumental, and eERlechan, the singing. ^_^ Because I've been told that this set of lyrics has been my best so far, I decided to dedicate it to some of my beloved friends. ^_^ I'm very greedy, and I dedicated this to more than one person! :D The people I have dedicated this song to are people very dear to me, and I wanted to dedicate one vocal cover to each of them, but considering my efficiency, that would take a lifetime. I tried my best to get it done by your birthday but... procrastination kills. hahaha~ ^_^ Do you remember our convesation about our future careers, and how you told me that you'd love to have a song dedicated to you? Well, that's why I've decided to write this song as your birthday present, hoping that it'll be a 'dream come true' for you. ^_^ Well, Happy belated, and I hope you have a joyous year ahead! -huggles tight- SEETENG : Happy Belated Birthday~! Let Thy holy hand touch the dark hour Twinkling stars beget in your holy bower The eternal darkness fade from the blinking eye And see Thy light in the darkest alcove where it might lie Let my pain, my darkness, my sadness burn in Thy holy flame. Peter Pears accompanied by Benjamin Britten perform two songs by Britten's teacher Frank Bridge: 'Go not, happy day' and 'Love went a-riding' When the 10" LP was released in 1956, the reviewer of Gramophone wrote: "A well-chosen anthology of British twentieth-century song, very well performed. The recital opens and closes with a composition of Frank Bridge: Britten pays tribute to his admired teacher. In 'Go not, happy day' (words by Tennyson) and 'Love went a-riding' (words by Mary Coleridge) both pianist and singer are buoyant and bright. The full text of the poems is: Go not, happy day, From the shining fields, Go not, happy day, Till the maiden yields. Rosy is the West, Rosy is the South, Roses are her cheeks, And a rose her mouth When the happy Yes Falters from her lips, Pass and blush the news Over glowing ships; Over blowing seas, Over seas at rest, Pass the happy news, Blush it thro' the West; Till the red man dance By his red cedar-tree, And the red man's babe Leap, beyond the sea. Blush from West to East, Blush from East to West, Till the West is East, Blush it thro' the West. Rosy is the West, Rosy is the South, Roses are her cheeks, And a rose her mouth. (Alfred, Lord Tennyson) Love went a-riding over the earth, On Pegasus he rode . . . The flowers before him sprang to birth, And the frozen rivers flowed. Than all the youths and the maidens cried, "Stay here with us, King of Kings!" But Love said, "No! for the horse I ride, For the horse I ride has wings ...

This is for my English poetry project. The teacher played them in class. The little boy As a boy, I shared a game with my parents- Played it when I felt lonely I would sit on a big board and yell Mama, papa, lift me up. They would rush into my room Grab the board And lifted me up No matter what they were doing Then they would say to the happy little boy I love you, my son. One day, my parents came to me Said:I love you, my son, but things dont work out between us The confused little boy Watching his dear mama and papa leaving Had no idea what was going on The lonely little boy Went to sit on the board and yelled Mama, papa, lift me up. The only response was the echoes of his voice The little boy cried. All I wanted was a I love you from my dear mama and papa After awhile, the sad little boy learned to wear a mask To hide the pain in my heart In school, I tried to get the best mark Just to prove what I really worth. Said I love you to a girl So desperate for a I love you back But none was returned The emptiness in my heart grows each day Like a endless black hole Slowly eating the best of me One summer, my mother got back Took me to a new country Canada Strange faces Foreign language A scared little boy I did not what to do But to hide I met new friends They were nice people They invited me to church There, I was first time hugged My hands were first time shaken I felt the black hole in heart Was filling up They told me there is a God who created you who loves you who ...
Remember how I walked away, On tiny feet, my first school day? With tiny hands I waved goodbye, And I saw the tear in the corner of your eye. But you were brave and so was I. We both tried hard not to cry. My little feet carried me to school. I remember your saying, "Now obey every rule!" My little hands opened the heavy school door. Everywhere I looked, there were kids galore. I went down the hall to the big red "K". There was Mrs. Carter, Mrs. Caudle, Mrs Martin to show me the way. I've tried hard to listen throughout the whole year. So when I'm in first grade, I'll have nothing to fear. The muscles in my hands are now much stronger. And even my feet look a whole lot longer. On the last day of school, as we all wave goodbye, Do you s'pose our teacher will have a tear in her eye? It really has been a happy school year. And if it weren't for you, Mom and Dad, I just wouldn't have been here!!

Okay, so I originally wasn't going to do a Valentine's Day one shot, but this year, I'm feeling the love... :D and also, I just reached 530 subscribers, so here's a one shot that I totally just came up with off the top of my head, so it's probably BORING! xD I love you guys. (: and... nah. I'll save the bad news for a different story. hah. - Nick Lucas was sitting in his last class of the day; Math. He was pure genius when it came to numbers, so of course, he'd finished all of his work, and was sitting in his seat tapping his pencil repeatedly off his desk. It was Valentines Day, also he and his boyfriends two year anniversary. It was ten minutes until school ended when there was a knock on the classroom door. The teacher smiled and opened the door as twelve employee's from Dunlop's Flowers walked in, carrying a dozen roses each. They all walked over to Nick and handed him the roses. Nick's face blushed redder than the roses as the fellow students 'awwed' and 'oohed'. Nick sat in his seat for the next ten minutes, reading the cards from the different bouquets; each bouquet came with a separate poem, or message. After the bell rang, Nick gathered his roses the best he could, and scurried down to his shared locker, where Joe had already gathered his bag and left for his car. Nick smiled when he found a card with his name on it. He carefully opened the envelope and read the little message and poem. "Roses are red; daisies are white; Valentine, you make every day a delight ...

Happy Teacher's day! Poem used: My Teacher by Maryam Mashhadi
WH Auden - The Unknown Citizen - Read by Alfred Molina The Unknown Citizen by WH Auden (1907-1973) (To JS/07/M/378 This Marble Monument Is Erected by the State) He was found by the Bureau of Statistics to be One against whom there was no official complaint, And all the reports on his conduct agree That, in the modern sense of an old-fashioned word, he was a saint, For in everything he did he served the Greater Community. Except for the War till the day he retired He worked in a factory and never got fired, But satisfied his employers, Fudge Motors Inc. Yet he wasn't a scab or odd in his views, For his Union reports that he paid his dues, (Our report on his Union shows it was sound) And our Social Psychology workers found That he was popular with his mates and liked a drink. The Press are convinced that he bought a paper every day And that his reactions to advertisements were normal in every way. Policies taken out in his name prove that he was fully insured, And his Health-card shows he was once in hospital but left it cured. Both Producers Research and High-Grade Living declare He was fully sensible to the advantages of the Instalment Plan And had everything necessary to the Modern Man, A phonograph, a radio, a car and a frigidaire. Our researchers into Public Opinion are content That he held the proper opinions for the time of year; When there was peace, he was for peace: when there was war, he went. He was married and added five children to the population, Which our ...

ITUNES: itunes.apple.com The " 'Twas the Night before Christmas" poem in a song. By Bryant Oden, of Songdrops.com , who did the Duck Song and I Got a pea. Lyrics to "Twas the Night Before Christmas, from the classic Christmas poem 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse The stockings were hung by the chimney with care In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there The children were nestled all snug in their beds While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap Had just settled down for a long winter's nap When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter Away to the window I flew like a flash Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below When, what to my wondering eyes should appear But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer With a little old driver, so lively and quick I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick More rapid than eagles his coursers they came And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name "Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!" As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky So up to the house-top the coursers ...
Sheebeg and Sheemore and Eleanor Plunkett by Turlough O'Carolan Please take a moment while here and have a listen to Sheebeg Sheemore as played by Peter Grant on a National 8 string Resophonic guitar. I have the best inspiration in the world, and that is never lost, on me :-) petegrant.com is a very nice place to visit too... www.petegrant.com These are played "after" the originals, and "after" fine arrangements by my beloved music teacher, Peter Grant. Rather than be specific to the music, as in: "accurate as possible", I play them in part without expecting or attempting to be !! Mistakes are included and my approach to music is that it is always played for the sheer joy of the music itself and with the simple hope of possibly linking a note or two that will remind the listener of the tune named. This might bother some listeners, others will find enjoyment in the imperfect nature of the presentation:-) I am not a studious student, but I am a happy one! I suppose the "folk" in me, wins out!! and "Look so Good" by David Lindley AHHH, David Lindley!............... Who might hope to hold a candle to the Maestro? played much in the authors honor as I could muster given the miles that lay ahead of this lil music lover ......also knowing no one gets to their destination without a humble beginning, everyone starting somewhere!! The movie started with Mahinder (Naseerudin Shah) getting down at the railway-station and going into a waiting room just as it starts to rain heavily. A woman present there, Sudha (Rekha), tries to hide herself from him. When they do see each other a flashback starts. Mahinder has an accomplished business dealing with photography. He respects his grandfather (Shammi Kapoor) immensely. Incidentally he has been engaged to Sudha for the 5 years but always made some excuses to delay the marriage, however this time his grandfather has fixed the marriage to the first week of the next month. He reveals to Sudha that he has an affair with one of the most radical representations of feminism in a girl called Maya(Anuradha Patel). He returns to tell Maya but Maya has disappeared leaving him poems (which she usually does). The film switches to present day and we see that Mahender and Sudha are conversing with each other about their past habits which Mahender terms as being very peculiar quoting one of Maya's poems. When Sudha asks her about Maya he changes the topic. Back to the flashback we see that Mahender has ...
Episode two: {questions} Demis POV: I looked around me to see the only girls near me was; me and Selena. Oh my gosh! He was staring at me or Selena! I hope to god that it was me. Not that I wouldnt be happy if it was Selena. Just the fact that no boy has ever been interested, never mind a celebrity! Joe: [smiles] Good morning class! I am Joseph Jonas, but call me Joe. I am going to read my newest poem. I hope you enjoy; (A/N: THIS IS AN ACTUAL POEM I FOUND ON THE INTERNET AND I THINK ITS BEAUTIFUL!) Sometimes I wonder how I feel about you, Scared of these feelings because its still new I catch myself thinking of the best way to share, Hoping youll return my confession showing you care And then I catch myself again and drag my thoughts back to reality I am back at square one, does this just happen to me? Poems are so stupid I swear I would never do this But this is YOU, and you arent like anyone I have met How much longer do I have to write, can I tell you yet? When I come back from my thoughts I feel more secure But then I sleep and the dreams of you occur The dreams I have of you are so vivid and clear I feel TRUE happiness inside and that there is nothing to fear People say dreams have underlying meanings and not to ignore them I say we both know what they mean and now I want you to hear Hear what I am about to say to you, feel it with my body, see it in my face Hear it in my words and tone when we converse I love you! I love you more than I ever thought I could Be with ...
RECITED BY JASIM UDDIN 'Kabar', first published in 1929 in Rakhali (Pastoral Poems),was as a text for the Matriculation Examination of Calcutta University while Jasim Uddin was still a student of IA class. "I was surprised when in 1929 I read Jasimuddin's poem "Kabar" in Calcutta Universitys selection of Bengali texts for the Matriculation examination. A poem by a Muslim writer in the Matriculation selections! And that too under the auspices of the University of Calcutta? . . . A teacher of mine told me a story about this. There was forceful opposition in [the University's] Syndicate to the inclusion of by a student. But Dr Dinesh Sen was the number one advocate for Jasimuddin. . . . Apparently, he countered the opposition by saying, "All right, please be patient and just listen to me recite the poem." He had a passionate voice and could recite poetry well. He read the poem with such wonderful effect that the eyes of many members of the Syndicate were glistening with tears." KABAR - GRAVE Here, under the pomegranate tree, is your grandmother's grave; For thirty years my tears have kept it green. She was a little doll-faced girl when she came to my horne, And she wept to be done with the play ofher childhood days. Returned from my travelling onee, I suddenly knew She had been in my thoughts all the time. Like the dawn her golden face would blind my eyes, And from that day I lost myselfamong smallj oys of hers. There along that path I'd take the plough to the fields And ...
Professional and amateur cosmonauts were undergoing final training on Thursday, September 24, for their space flight on September 30. Final exercises included simulation training for the physical effects of space flight, as well as a computer simulation of ISS docking technology. But there is time for a little relaxation like playing billiards in the training center. Former street artist Guy Laliberte will be the worlds seventh space tourist. [Guy Laliberte, Cirque Du Soleil Founder]: "I've been having a blast here training. Every teacher I had, every cosmonaut I encounter, has been so generous of transmitting knowledge and also advice about how I should prepare myself." The crew took a walk through the grounds of the Baikanour training center, to plant the now-traditional trees. Laliberte, whose trademark during the space training has been a red clown nose, was the focus of media attention as he fooled around with a clown flower, planted near his tree. Laliberte has been dreaming of traveling in space ever since he visited a Soviet exhibition on space in Canada in 1967. He also plans to perform a poem about the scarcity of water on earth from the International Space Station during his voyage. Fourteen cities around the world will join Laliberte in a simultaneous event titled "Moving Stars and Earth for Water" on October 9. Artists and world-renowned figures will demonstrate their commitment to water and pay tribute to this natural resource. Just how much does a passenger ...
This poem was published in 1939 in The New Yorker, before WWII and George's Orwell's novel "1984". It seems quite similar. Orwell would probably have read this poem. It's a satirical reference perhaps to "The Tomb of the Unknown Warrior" in Westminster Abbey where a soldier lies buried who was killed in WW1. There are similar tombs in other cities. The picture is of the one at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris There seems to be a mixture of British and American idioms. British companies don't use the designation "Inc"; Frigidaire too is more American. "Mates" and "scab" seem more British though, the latter meaning an employee who won't join a union or who works while others are on strike. Eugenics was in vogue and had a following among intellectuals at that time, before WWII made its terrible consequences obvious. It is Chinese traditional ideology that the Quality of Life depends on the "The Four Goods" . The Four Goods (si hao) have been variously defined. In Mao regime they were politics, economics, organisation and ideology. A more modern manifestation is good neighbours, good friends, good comrades and good partners. There are also the Four Goods of the mind - information, knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. The concept that a fulfilled life depends on the possession of the Four Goods, here defined as a Phonograph, a Radio, a Car and a Frigidaire was also later paralleled in China when there were only four luxury possessions available; so The Four Goods became a Washing ...
poem by WH Auden reading by Alfred Molina -- The Unknown Citizen (To JS/07/M/378 This Marble Monument Is Erected by the State) He was found by the Bureau of Statistics to be One against whom there was no official complaint, And all the reports on his conduct agree That, in the modern sense of an old-fashioned word, he was a saint For in everything he did he served the Greater Community. Except for the War till the day he retired He worked in a factory and never got fired, But satisfied his employers, Fudge Motors Inc. Yet he wasn't a scab or odd in his views, For his Union reports that he paid his dues, (Our report on his Union shows it was sound) And our Social Psychology workers found That he was Popular with his mates and liked to drink. The Press are convinced that he bought a Paper every day And that his reactions to advertisements were normal in every way. Policies taken out in his name prove that he was fully insured And his Health-card shows he was once in a hospital but left it cured, Both Producers Research and High-Grade Living declare He was fully sensible to the advantages of the Installment Plan And had everything necessary to the Modern Man, A phonograph, a radio, a car and a frigidaire. Our researchers into Public Opinion are content That he held the proper opinions for the time of year; When there was peace he was for peace when there was war he went. He was married and added five children to the population, Which our Eugenist says was the right number ...
