HCC'S Got Talent auditions will begin October 22. The winners will be showcased at the Chancellor's Holiday Party December 10. It's not America's Got Talent, but it's the next best thing. Talented HCC employees are invited to take the stage in pursuit of prizes in the First Annual "HCC's Got Talent" Show. HCC is searching for aspiring performers from musicians, clean comedians, dancers, spoken word, singing, instrumentalists and choral to audition with a 3-minute performance. Finalists selected from three auditions will perform during the December 10 Chancellor's Holiday Party scheduled in the HCC West Loop Auditorium. These are the locations and dates for auditions: Friday, October 22 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm HCC Administrative Building 3100 Main, 2nd Floor auditorium Saturday, October 23 10:00 am - 1:00 pm HCC Administrative Building 3100 Main, 2nd Floor, Seminar Room A Friday, October 29 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm HCC Administrative Building 3100 Main, 2nd Floor auditorium "Aspiring performers should consider auditioning because it gives them a chance to perform in public and polish their performances. Houston Community College is grabbing national attention as the recipient of a $3.5 million federal energy grant. HCCs Chancellor Dr. Mary S. Spangler spelled out details of the multi-million dollar grant at a VIP Reception for the HCC Chancellors Symposium on Energy Wednesday evening. •HCC is the only Texas institution of higher education selected to receive $3.5 million by the US Departments of Labor and Education and the US Department of Energy (DOE). •The funding will help establish a network of educational, industry and state partners to ensure the availability and effectiveness of solar installation training throughout the region. •The project will also provide professional development opportunities for educators at institutions that wish to start or improve training and education programs in solar installation. •The HCC grant ($3566058) is the largest amount awarded out of the nine regions selected. The VIP Reception was well-attended by whos who in Houstons energy and engineering industries, including Chevron Energy CEO Jim Davis and Texas Representative Bill Callegari (R). The evening also included a videotaped welcome message from NASA Administrator Charles Bolden. The reception is in appreciation of the teamwork and cooperation of the sponsors and HCCs staff who worked to make the Chancellors Symposium on Energy an event that local high school and HCC students will remember.
