In January 2009, Greenpeace bought a piece of land on the site of the proposed third runway at Heathrow, the Airplot. To ensure we can physically stop construction, we're running a competition to find the best ideas for an activist base which can be built to fortify and enhance the Airplot. London Heathrow International Airport ( London , England ) . London Heathrow Airport or Heathrow (IATA: LHR, ICAO: EGLL), located in the London Borough of Hillingdon, is the world's busiest airport in terms of international passenger traffic. It is the world's second busiest airport in total passenger traffic and the United Kingdom's largest and busiest airport. Levitt's peverse contention is that a third runway is good for the envrionment because it relieves 'congestion' (ie 'stacking') and therefore lowers carbon emissions. He uses similar arguments in support of the Longdendale Bypass, but the logic of the capitalism he supports is the constant growth in demand by building extra capacity.
Malthouse is a deputy to London Mayor Boris Johnson and keen advocate of a new London airport in the Thames Estuary - the so-called "Boris Island." Johnson had just turned his second People's Question Time, held in Hayes close to Heathrow airport, into a debate/rally for locals who, like him, are strongly opposed to a third runway at Heathrow.

George Galloway reads a few texts and e-mails from a group of people unhappy with Galloway's views. In particular, they are supporting the construction of the highly controversial 3rd runway at London Heathrow airport (Galloway is against it), which raises concern on how much pollution will the new runway cause to our atmosphere. The same texters also put a racist twist to their texts by telling Galloway to go live in the Middle East or in the case of one of the many weirdo texts: 'Why you go and live in a Muslim land'. The third texters is probably the most amusing of the lot. I won't tell you why. Listen to it and be amused. Originally broadcasted on 16th January 2009.

The worlds largest international airport is to get bigger. The British government has announced its to go ahead with its controversial plans to build a third runway. Opponents say environmental considerations have been forgotten and vow to fight the plans. An extra 220 thousand flights will pass from Heathrow by 2030, Our UK Correspondent Uzma Hussain has this
anonymous press release: At 4 am, three women, wearing red climate sashes, hurled bricks and broke the glass doors of The Department for Transport, on Marsham Street, London. Echoing the protests of the Suffragettes, they wrapped their bricks in notes that read: 'NO THIRD RUNWAY, THE SUFFRA-JETS ARE BACK before hurling them at the government building. They also hurled green paint to symbolise the greenwash they heard from the government today. They targeted the building as a direct response to yesterday's decision to allow a third runway at Heathrow. A spokeswoman said: "The government has opened the flood-gates for radical action. Yesterday they sacrificed all of our futures and spat in the face of democracy. The third runway is unwanted and is a global threat. When they make democracy meaningless what other reaction could they expect? "We have less than ten years to turn climate change around. Women cannot just stand by and let this government treat our futures as a joke. We fight for the safety of humanity, and if the government will only listen to the smash of windows, then so be it." Noting that their elected MPs had been refused a vote on this issue, she added; "The government has bypassed democratic process for the sake of corporate profit. The Suffragettes died for the democratic rights that the government so sweeps aside. We take our lead from our past to defend our future." www.indymedia.org.uk
I'm sure, if you live in the UK that you've heard about Heathrow's third runway plans. I disagree with a new runway being built, so when I heard about what protesters did it amused me. However, me being a 15 year old boy, means I don't know all the fact, so please comment and post video responses with you opinions! Thank You! www.greenpeace.org.uk - Several thousand people showed up in Sipson Saturday to show their opposition to a third runway at Heathrow. Decision time is fast approaching for the government - and they have been sent a big message that if they are serious about tackling climate change, then 'NO' is the only sensible answer to the aviation industry's plans for unfettered airport expansion.
Make a Noise Carnival Heathrow Airport, 31st May 2008. A jont effort between anti expansion groups, environmental campaigners and local authorities all protesting against a plan to wipe Sipson village off the map with terminal 6 and runway no. 3. The extra traffic will also make life a misery for those as fas a field a Chelsea and Windsor (and all areas in between). In addition plans may include running access roads through a cemetary!!!
When BAA wanted Terminal 3 they assured the public that was all that was required. Then came T4, again they promised no further expansion. After an enquiry lasting nearly 10 years, we now have T5 ready for 2008. In the run up to T5 BAA once again promised no third runway. Now they want that plus Terminal 6. BAA have lied & lied about their intentions for Heathrow. West London is going to be an unbearable place to live in, a new flight path that cuts across Barnet Harrow Ealing Greenford and Hayes, and if you don't think its going to affect you, you're wrong because you still have to get to Heathrow through the traffic jams that give West London its 'special' flavour

I started my Sunday morning ride with a loop around the perimeter of Heathrow Airport. Passing T-5, watching a Jet land and enjoying a close up view of Concorde outside the BA hangars. The pretty village I go through is Longford which is due to be badly affected by the controversial third runway. Although not demolished like neighbouring Sipson.
London Heathrow Airport or Heathrow (IATA: LHR, ICAO: EGLL), located in London, England, is the principal and biggest airport serving the United Kingdom. Heathrow is also Europe's busiest airport for passenger traffic, and handles more international passenger traffic than any other airport in the world.[2] Heathrow is owned and operated by BAA, which also owns/operates six other UK airports[3] and is itself owned by an international consortium led by the Spanish Ferrovial Group.[4] Heathrow is the primary hub of British Airways and Virgin Atlantic and a major hub for bmi. Located 15 miles (24 km) west of Central London, England, Heathrow has two parallel main runways running east-west and five terminals. Terminal 5 was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II on the 14 March 2008 and opened to passengers on 27 March 2008. Construction of Heathrow East to replace Terminal 2 and The Queens Building is planned to start in 2008 and be completed by 2012, and Terminals 3 and 4 will be refurbished during this period.[5] In November 2007 a consultation process began for the building of a new third runway. Heathrow Airport has a CAA Public Use Aerodrome Licence (Number P527) that allows flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction.
The Queen has officially opened Heathrow Airport's £4.3 billion Terminal 5 after 15 years of planning and protest. Accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen toured the striking new terminal with Sir Nigel Rudd, chairman of airport operator BAA, which first submitted a planning application for T5 in 1993. A 30-strong choir performed a specially-commissioned choral composition to mark the opening. Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly, whose plans for expanding Heathrow with a possible third runway and sixth terminal have met with strong opposition from green groups, was among 800 invited guests. The new terminal has been built exclusively for British Airways, which will eventually have all its Heathrow flights operating from the new facility. T5 will be able to handle 30 million passengers a year and will mean Heathrow's annual passenger numbers will rise from around 68 million to 95 million. T5 has been seen as essential for the well-being of Heathrow, London and the UK but it was solidly opposed when first proposed in the 1990s. A record-breaking four-year planning inquiry - from 1995 to 1999 - was held into T5, which eventually led to the Government giving the scheme the go-ahead in 2001, with work starting in 2002. Sir Nigel said: "Terminal Five marks the start of a new beginning for Heathrow, for BAA and for our millions of passengers. "It is by any standard a triumph of ambition, commitment and collaboration. It will breathe new life into Heathrow, allowing us to ...

Two breaches of security in the most locked down sites on the planet have got the mainstream media asking questions - unfortunately the wrong questions. The Political Rant asks who will benefit from the infiltrations of Heathrow and the House of Commons , how people actually bypassed security ( with banners , big ones)by walking through open doors , down corridors and through fire exits. And poses the ultimate question - why are the rest of us told daily of the threat of terrorism when the authorities of Parliament and Heathrow patently don't believe it. Could there be a hidden agenda behind these actions , with the protestors used as 'patsies ' or 'fall guys'?
The four activists were atop the Airbus A320 for about an hour and a half before airport security plucked them off in a cherry-picker crane and police arrested them, authorities said. Greenpeace said it wanted to highlight the environmental damage a third runway will cause, but a Heathrow spokesman called the group's actions "irresponsible." "Climate change can be beaten, but not by almost doubling the size of the world's biggest airport," said protester Anna Jones, 27. She and the other three activists -- a woman and two men -- unfurled a yellow banner on the plane's tailfin which read, "Climate Emergency -- No 3rd Runway." Greenpeace said it had planned the protest for many months. Greenpeace said the activists bought airline tickets to get airside at Heathrow's Terminal 1, then waited for all the passengers on the Manchester, England to London flight to disembark. The activists then walked through the terminal, crossed the Tarmac, and climbed stairs onto the plane's fuselage. "We may have exposed a hole in security at Heathrow, but it's not as big as the hole in (Prime Minister) Gordon Brown's climate change policy," said Sarah Shoraka, 30, another of the protesters. Shoraka said the group chose the Manchester-to-London flight because the train is a viable and more environmentally-friendly alternative on the same route.
