When you are deeply in love, you realize such things happening to you. You love your spouse, you feel the attachment, you feel incomplete without him/her. Thats what this poem is all about. Hence the name is PYAR ME DOOBA (meaning "deeply in love").
In March 1998, one evening while his father was admitted to the ICU of Breach Candy Hospital, Amitabh Bachchan recited Hindi poems by Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan before a distinguished audience for the British Council. Big B, was nervous because this was one of the first times he was doing this publicly. But it went down well. And early next morning, charged by the experience, he returned to the hospital to find his father propped up in bed waiting expectantly. How did it go, Dr. Harivansh Rai inquired. Good is what you Amitabh replied and he actually recited his fathers poems one by one in the ICU. Dr. Harivansh Rai listened attentively. When the Big B had finished, he said, Thank-you, now when am I going home? Dr. Farokh Udwadia discharged him the same morning. It is 12 years since then, and Dr. Harivansh Rai is no more, but Amitabh Bachchan has taken his fathers poems to discerning and appreciative audiences far and wide. On Monday evening, at the Bandra Fort, he will do so again, this time for Aman Ki Asha — the Indo-Pak peace initiative by Times of India and the Jang Group of Pakistan. Sharing the stage with him will be Zia Mohyeddin, a Pakistani actor and international celebrity of distinct fame, who will read out Urdu poems by Faiz Ahmed Faiz — as eminent a poet in Pakistan as was Dr. Harivansh Rai in India. Nagarjun was born as Baidyanath in a Maithil Brahmin family of Mithila region of Bihar in 1911, he grew to become a restless traveler, a Sanskritist, classicist scholar, poet and religious rebel. He came under the spell of the anti-colonial nationalism and joined the revolutionary peasant movement led by Swami Sahajanand Saraswati. He wrote in Maithili under the pen name Yatri (Hence the name Baidyanath Mishra Yatri). His association with the legendary Hindi litterateur and Buddhist scholar Rahul Sankrtyayana led him to travels to Sri Lanka and conversion to Buddhism. He became a communist at the same time and started writing in Hindi under his new Buddhist name Nagarjun. Early on, he was disillusioned by the great compromises and the dilution of the revolutionary agenda effected by the national leaders. He started writing about the middle-class character of Congress-led nationalism and its disastrous implications for the poor peasantry, artisans and labouring classes. He was jailed for his political and agitational activities several times before as well as after Independence. Though always a well-known a popular poet and writer he was ignored by the conservative literary and critical establishment for a long time—till the great cultural upsurges in the Hindi speaking north Indian belt in late 60s and early 70s broke down the old literary order and turned writers like Nagarjun, Muktibodh, Shamsher Bahadur Singh, Trilochan and Raghuvir Sahay into cult figures.
