Design Framework for Health Facilities Alan Ricks and Michael Murphy MASS Design Group Download link www.scribd.com Video Link A tragic example of poor health facility architecture occurred in 2005, when Extremely Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (XDR TB) was discovered in a hospital in Tugela Ferry, South Africa. Of the 53 original cases of XDR TB, none survived. 67 percent of those infected had been recently hospitalized at the Tugela Ferry clinic and at closer inspection it became clear that the hospital's poor design had helped to transmit this airborne disease. The Design Framework for Health Facilities is an on-line tool designed to gather resources from a cross-disciplinary field of problems solvers and confront this crisis of inappropriate health facility design. Developed as an interactive program, the Framework will be a resource for architects and health care providers to better understand and develop strategies to resist tragedies like that in Tegula Ferry and to aid in the creation of contextually relevant facilities in resource constrained settings. The framework, developed with the support from United States Agency for International Development (USAID), World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation, will also be a forum for medical workers to learn from a forum of architects, planners, doctors, nurses, patients, policy makers, and epidemiologists. This could have potentially profound effects ...

www.helpvid.net Well if you find yourself at this page, you are after a quick fix to get that problematic contact page up and running, and you probably made a smart move and saved yourself hours of time, because one error can cause the PHP Script to implode and trying to locate the error can be monotonous to the inexperienced eye. Here I have created a simple PHP Script you can Download here, the Dreamweaver tutorial above will provide you with the information you need to change on the actual script. You will need to edit the scrip with the Email you wish your message to be sent, the return URL and you can edit the message and CSS to suit your website. This Script has variables to gather information from a form with three fields, Name Email and Comments. If you have additional fields just add the variable to the form like shown bellow. Example. This assumes you have a contact form that wishes to gather an additional field, phone.
API & usage of my Unity GUI framework written in C# I get a lot of questions on building a GUI framework, so I uploaded this to inspire you. Unfortunatelly the framework isn't currently free. But if you do your own framework, you should consider this: Basically, what you should do is to build components which hold a state (properties: x, y, width, height, label, color, alpha... ), and whose Draw() routine does Unity's "OnGUI()" stuff. What you need is a base class which is extended by each different component. You should have one private Rect property which gets set when changing public properties above, and is used by Draw(). Composite pattern is the most important here: you should make a container class that has Children collection, and AddChild/RemoveChild methods. You build the hierarchy using those methods in Start() routine. You create a control and add it as a child to the container. Then you add this container to some other container and so on. What you get is a tree. You should implement invalidation methods for setting properties (basically setting a "dirty" flag on components and recalculating them just before the next update). Examine existing open-source frameworks. Google for "Flex invalidation methods". You should look into InvalidateProperties()/CommitProperties() and two other invalidation/validation method pairs. Without the use of invalidation your framework is doomed (because of the processing cost). Also, your component should extend an ...

It is now one of the highlights of many American harvest fairs. To complete this How-To you will need: Butter A cool room Ice water Materials for the framework Sculpting tools Food coloring Step 1: Find a cool room Find a cool room in which to work so your butter doesn't melt as you sculpt. Tip: Today, Tibetan monks create their works of art in rooms kept at 32° F. Step 2: Pick a subject Pick a subject. Let your mind run wild. Butter sculptors have created everything from The Last Supper to Elvis Presley. Step 3: Soak the butter Soak the butter in very cold water in order to remove impurities and give the butter an extra- smooth texture. The amount of butter you soak depends on how large you'd like your sculpture to be. Step 4: Build the frame Build a frame to hold your base in place. Traditionally, bamboo sticks were fashioned into the framework, but you can use wood and/or metal. Step 5: Dip hands in ice Before you start sculpting, dip your hands in ice water. Your hands must be kept practically numb, or your body heat will melt your ...

Part II of a three part tutorial, this tutorial demonstrates how to put together a basic JSF war file for deployment to a Tomcat 6 server, although the simple WAR file can be deployed to any Servlet Engine, be it WebSphere, WebLogic, Glassfish, Oracle, etc. This tutorial demonstrates how to create a proper war structure, do a basic web.xml deployment descriptor configuration for the FacesServlet that implements the FrontController Design Pattern, and it shows a simple faces-config.xml file. A HelloWorld Java Server Page (JSP), helloworld.jsp, is created that is then invoked through the JSF framework on the Tomcat6 server to ensure the JSF1.2 environment is configured properly.

Welcome to design a dwelling - volume 4. Im Doug Patt. This is the series where we pick a site and put a house on it. I was reminded of the childrens story Gullivers travels the other day so Ive decided to build on the theme of altered scale. Todays site is my garage and well use this spare tire Ive had laying around. Now, since one tire is a little tough to do anything with lets imagine weve got say three. The challenge now is that the tires are small, so lets imagine theyre gigantic kind of like Gulliver in the land of Lilliput. Now lets imagine the tires are the framework for our new house. Well attach all three with some kind of vulcanized rubber panels and add some windows across the tread surface to get light inside. Once inside weve got some decorating to do. Flat screen TVs have become very popular of late, as have mobile phones. So lets put the two together. Well super size the iPhone Ive got in my pocket and design the house around that. Once the phones mounted on the wall its like a big screen TV. Now it might be interesting to consider using a rolling ladder or step stool to touch the screen icons. Another advantage of this larger phone is that the speakers at the bottom of the phone would be just the right size for surround sound and surfing the web at that scale would be a whole new experience. So lets get down to business and discuss some of the features of our new home. One of the most interesting parts of the iphone is the accelerometer. The phone takes ...
Artificial intelligence inventor Stephen Thaler perturbs portions of his software simulated neural networks. The induced stress and noise would cause creativity. His creativity machine already helped design a new toothbrush, musical compositions, info warfare, flexibly learning object recognition systems, and self-developing neural networks. These could someday populate the internet, support transhuman cognition augmentation and appear as an intelligent entity, capable of learning, knowledge-backed reasoning, planning, talking and pursuing goals. Eventually, mind uploads would be carried on free of body by a consciousness simulating artifact. But even if the self-enhancing entities run virtualized, fragmentary personalities of selected individuals this will differ from human consciousness. Edit from a Four Door Films commercial production, 2006. Thesynthetelepa channel autoplaying playlist walks through underdocumented phenomena and effects of non-conventional information transfer to and from the mind, touching conceptual frameworks, research, technologies, techniques and applications.
Tabletop 2006 Freehand gestural interaction with direct-touch computation surfaces has been the focus of significant research activity recently. While many interesting gestural interaction technique have been proposed, their design has been mostly ad-hoc and has not been presented within a constructive design framework. In this paper, we develop and articulate a set of design principles for constructing -- in a systematic and extensible manner -- multi-hand gestures on touch surfaces that can sense multiple points and shapes, and can also accommodate conventional point-based input. To illustrate the generality of these design principles, a set of bimanual continuous gestures that embody these principles are developed and explored within a prototype tabletop publishing application. We carried out a user evaluation to assess the usability of these gestures and use the results and observations to suggest future design guidelines.
Google Tech Talks March, 24 2008 ABSTRACT Yang Li - RESEARCH SCIENTIST Pervasive or ubiquitous computing (ubicomp) applications can support people's everyday activities in the physical world by leveraging advances in sensor technologies and computing infrastructures. Designing ubicomp applications is challenging because our everyday activities are more complex, dynamic and less structured than the tasks supported by traditional desktop computing. Ubicomp design is difficult, time-consuming, and requires a high level of technical expertise, especially with sensor technologies. To address this, I created a set of rapid prototyping tools and frameworks. My early work with Topiary introduces high-level abstractions, such as maps and scenarios, for designers to easily model location contexts and specify location-based behaviors. Topiary also allows a design to be tested in the field via a Wizard of Oz approach, without deploying a location sensor infrastructure. My recent work is focused on activity-based ubicomp prototyping, a process for enabling long-term activities (such as keeping fit)—a larger unit for design than the tasks that are the focus of traditional design. To support such a process, I created ActivityDesigner, a system that allows designers to create functional prototypes of ubicomp applications based on field observations, and easily deploy and test these prototypes in situ. Speaker: Yang Li - RESEARCH SCIENTIST Yang Li is a research associate in the Computer ...
Google Tech Talks January 24, 2007 ABSTRACT Every day around the world, software developers spend much of their time working with a variety of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). Some are integral to the core platform, some provide access to widely distributed frameworks, and some are written in-house for use by a few developers. Nearly all programmers occasionally function as API designers, whether they know it or not. A well-designed API can be a great asset to the organization that wrote it and to all who use it. Good APIs increase the pleasure and productivity of the developers who use them, the quality of the software they produce, and ultimately, the corporate bottom line....
Google Tech Talks October 5, 2006 David Pollak has been developing commercial software for 28 years. He founded Athena Design and wrote Mesa, the first real-time spreadsheet. David wrote Integer, the first online, collaborative spreadsheet. Since 2000, David has been developing domain specific languages for security and general web development. ABSTRACT David will describe a framework for developing DSLs which includes: * Identifying the constituents in a development project; * Determining the costs and benefits of a DSL for a particular constituency vs. hand-coding functionality for that constituency based on interviews and specs; * Identifying the 'thought leader' in a given...
