This is a message to the new CEO of HP, Meg Whitman. Advice for moving forward: have faith in the webOS platform and community, but remember the words of George Santayana: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to fulfill it." In that spirit, this is a recounting of the webOS saga thus far, as percieved by a consumer and webOS fan. Set to the melody of "We Didn't Start the Fire" by Billy Joel. Special thanks to PreCentral and PreDoodle for the majority of the still images. Lyrics: HP Light the Fire June '09, Sprint Pre, Touchstone, synergy Qwerty slider, touchscreen, pebble-like phone Poorly built, oreo, Pixi was a no-go webOS is an ace, but an unknown Verizon Pre, Pixi plus, Sprint said no to us Faster, more memory, Later on AT&T Palm sales looking grim, Pre returns keep coming in, Ship is sinking, in distress. Who will save our webOS? HP stopped the fire Pulled us from the flame, then erased the name HP stopped the fire They could reinforce us with their vast resources Faithful palm community, waiting, waiting nervously Preware, Homebrew, what should we do? Users of an older pre or a pixi legacy, No more OTA, sucks to be you Pre2 just announced, clearing out the warehouse webOS 2, they said only on Big Red Tiny Veer, Pre3, Touchpad, finally Small, Medium and Large, webOS is taking charge! HP starts the fire Well they have a vision, full of real ambition HP starts the fire They build good devices, but with lofty prices First to hit the scene is Veer, not sure ...

Hewlett-Packard's (NYSE:HPQ) recently fired CEO Leo Apotheker is leaving the company with more than $13 million in cash and stock, ending a difficult reign that saw the tech company's market value fell by nearly $40 billion in just 11 months. Shares of HP fell 46% during Apotheker's tenure, which ended September 22. Meanwhile, the company's new CEO, Meg Whitman, will receive a salary of $1 per year, the company revealed in a regulatory filing yesterday, Cnet reported last night. Whitman will have the option to purchase 1.9 million shares of HP stock, but the option will only vest if the company's stock increases 120% over its current level, the publication added. Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ) has a potential upside of 43.4% based on a current price of $23.78 and an average consensus analyst price target of $34.09!
Transcript: BY ANNA BURKART Today HP announced it's new CEO Meg Whitman, former eBay CEO and unsuccessful republican candidate for California's 2011 gubernatorial election. Whitman will be replacing Léo Apotheker. Fox Business reports, Apotheker's departure comes amidst a steady downward spiral for the company. "As expected, it will be former eBay CEO Meg Whitman who will take the reigns. Whitman would replace Léo Apotheker who's been in the top spot for less than a year. During his tenor, the company has cut its sales forecast three times and the stock has fallen nearly 50 percent under his reign. Whitman will be HP's eighth CEO since 1999." Although there were initial reports that Whitman, who sits on HP's board of directors, would be accepting an interim CEO position, it has been confirmed that the position will be permanent. According to All Things Digital, "short term" isn't what Whitman does. "Meg is not someone who wants to be a steward of a process to find another CEO for HP,' said one source. 'She wants to run the company and be a strong leader for what she considers an important tech powerhouse.' That makes sense, since at only 55 years old, sources said Whitman is not inclined to want to do a temporary fix-it job on a company as troubled and complex as HP." Although some believe Whitman is taking on this position to help better the company, one San Francisco Chronicle writer suggests this is a political move. All Things Digital reported that Oracle (NASDAQ:ORCL) is maintaining that the agreement it entered into with Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ) last year over Oracle's hiring of former HP CEO Mark Hurd, is questionable since, at the time of the agreement, Oracle did not know that HP was near to hiring Leo Apotheker as its new CEO and Ray Lane, the former CEO and Ray Lane, the former Oracle COO and president, as its new chairman. In part of that settlement there was an understanding that a long standing partnership whereby Oracle would continue making software that runs on hardware using Intel's Itanium chip. Oracle (NASDAQ:ORCL) has a potential upside of 31.4% based on a current price of $27.87 and an average consensus analyst price target of $36.63.

This is a prefect example of how little things can be material. Mark Hurd was $100 million HP CEO and was fired for falsifying $20000 in expenses. Amounts don't have to be BIG to be Material. Little amounts are material if the RESULT of the little number is material. For example, would it EVER be OK with the bank loan officer for a borrower to run personal expenses through the company?
