Stewart Brand, an icon of the environmental movement, outlines a provocative approach for reclaiming our planet. In his latest book, Brand proposes solutions for three profound transformations which are underway right now: climate change, urbanization and biotechnology. In 1966 he campaigned to have NASA release the then-rumored satellite image of the entire Earth as seen from space. He founded the CoEvolution Quarterly in 1974 which became The Whole Earth Catalog - the bible of the 70's "back to the land" movement. In CoEvolution Quarterly #4, he published a transcription of technology historian Lewis Mumford?s talk ?The Next Transformation of Man,? containing the statement: "... man has still within him sufficient resources to alter the direction of modern civilization, for we then need no longer regard man as the passive victim of his own irreversible technological development." Brand is one of the founders of the WELL with Larry Brilliant, the Global Business Network and the Long Now Foundation. He lives on a houseboat with his wife, Ryan Phelan, in Sausalito harbor.

Allegro scherzando Sergey Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No.2 in C minor, Op.18 1 Moderato Part1-5 2 Adagio sostenuto Parts2,3-5 3 Allegro scherzando Parts4,5-5 Howard Shelley, piano an operbathosa video Moderato: C minor The opening movement begins with a series of bell-like tollings on the piano that build tension, eventually climaxing in the introduction of the main theme. In this first section, the orchestra carries the Russian-character melody while the piano makes an accompaniment made of arpeggios riddled with half steps. After the statement of the long first theme, a quicker transition follows until the more lyrical second theme, in E flat major, is presented. The agitated and unstable development borrows motives from both themes changing keys very often and giving the melody to different instruments while a new musical idea is slowly formed. The music builds in a huge climax as if the work was going to repeat the first bars of the work, but the recapitulation is going to be quite different. en.wikipedia.org Howard Shelley ...

Some 900 million miles from the Sun... in the outer regions of our Solar System... orbiting the planet Saturn.... ...lies a mysterious world. Enceladus is enveloped in ice. Because nearly all of the sunlight that manages to hit its surface is reflected back into space, it's one of the brightest objects in the solar system. At its equator, the temperature is --315 degrees Fahrenheit. But, at the poles, the temperature is at least 15 degrees warmer... and as much as 65 degrees warmer in grooves that stretch across the south like tiger stripes. In 2005, the Cassini spacecraft spotted a complex plume of water vapor shooting out into space from several locations near the south pole. That may mean that Enceladus harbors a remarkable secret below its frigid surface: A liquid ocean... and maybe... some forms of life. This discovery was the culmination of a search that began over three decades ago. . Back in 1979, the outer planets of the solar system lined up in such a way that mission planners were able to dispatch the Voyager spacecraft to fly past each of them ... The two Voyagers sent back tens of thousands of images... of planetary realms more diverse than anyone had imagined. These long-distance marathon flyers - both now headed out towards interstellar space - made discoveries about the planetary chemistry that make these gas giants appear to us as gigantic works of abstract art. The Voyagers disclosed new details about their magnetic fields, atmospheres, ring systems, and ...
