Here we are, the 102th fight song used in the world of NCAA DI schools. Of course when someone says Notre Dame of the USA, they will immediately associate it with American football, but it has histories in soccer, basketball and sometimes fencing and hockey. I do wanna note that this was one of the first fight songs I learned. I heard it when I was 7 or 8, and I know the chorus by heart due to a sing-a-long cartoon I saw on VHS. There is no argument that the Notre Dame - USC matchup in 2005 was one of the greatest college football contests of the last decade. The Trojans came into the game ranked number one in the country with a 6-0 record, while the Irish were considered upstarts with a 4-1 record and number nine ranking. Tom Zbikowski's punt return, the missed placement of a fumble at the end of the game, the help Matt Leinart received to score the winning touchdown and the infamous fourth-down conversion play. What Notre Dame fans really want to remember from the game is that the Irish went toe-to-toe with one of the best teams of the decade for 60 minutes and set a performance standard that the team has been striving to match over the past four years. To say that soon-to-be Notre Dame freshman Skylar Diggins has a full plate ahead of her is an understatement. The South Bend Washington graduate is in her final weeks before college, and on Thursday she's departing for Colorado Springs for some special training. She's kind of on the Under 19 USA World Championship team and will look to help America win Gold in Thailand in a few weeks. Oh, and she has the ESPY awards in between as well. But before she gets there, she wrapped up a major kids clinic at her dad's Martin Luther King Center on Wednesday. Skylar is a counselor for the "Camp Soldiers," a basketball camp for area kids in grades 2nd through 8th. And she's a very active counselor. "You have to get after them," Skylar says while taking a quick break. "You have to challenge the kids and they'll rise to the occasion." "They want to compete and they are upset when they make a mistake." Like her step-dad Maurice Scott preaches, the goal is to "get better." "They want to get better," Skylar says. They look alike and I didn't want to mess it up. 3. There are no babies in VK so I made Yuuki run, and then she was the 'child'. 4. Japanese title of the movie: ノートルダムの鐘 (Nootoru Damu no Kane; The Bells of Notre Dame) Japanese title of the song: 罪の炎 (Tsumi no Honoo; Flames of Sin) Japanese lyrics/dub script by Asari Keita (浅利慶太) Seiyuu/voice actors in this song: Mura Toshihide (村俊英) - Frollo (singing voice) Kusaka Takeshi (日下武史) - Frollo (speaking voice) Some observations: -Mura Toshihide's voice sounds like a blend of an opera singer and Gaston from B&TB. -The line "It's not my fault / if in God's plan / he made the devil so much stronger than a man" is translated to "悪いのは私ではない あの悪魔は私より強いのだ", which basically means "I'm not the one to blame / that devil is stronger than I am". Though it's different from the original line, I like Asari-san's interpretation of the "devil" as being Esmeralda, it's very in-character for Frollo to think that way. -The Japanese title sounds pretty cool (then again, so does the original title). - If I got something wrong in the translation, please tell me. I did my best to make this translation read well in English and not sound like Engrish. I'm also not totally fluent in Japanese, and though I have a decent knowledge of the grammar, translating song lyrics is always challenging.
