Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa signed several deals with India during his visit this week, his first since quashing the Tamil Tiger rebels. He also faced protests from India's sizable Tamil community over the wartime death of civilians..... India and Sri Lanka bolstered their friendship following a meeting between their leaders in New Delhi.... despite deep resentment among many Indians at the neighbor..... The state visit by President Mahinda Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka this week sparked protests from India's Tamil community. Like Tamils around the world, they blame him for the deaths of thousands of Tamil civilians during the last phase of the war against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), also known as the Tigers, which ended last spring. The United Nations estimates 7000 Tamils were killed in the final stage of the fighting and hundreds of thousands were displaced by the military campaign in the former rebel strongholds in the island's north and east. "Having massacred scores of Tamils, Rajapaksa had no moral right to enter India with his blood-stained hands," said Vaiko, a senior Tamil politician and staunch supporter of the rebel Tamil Tigers, according to wire reports. India has a large Tamil population, with about 62 million Tamils in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. But there were little signs of tension between Rajapaksa and the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday, as they met for the first time since Sri Lanka declared victory over the ...

Lanka to send home 58000 refugees for now Thu, 2009-10-15 02:59 — editor From S Murari, Chennai Chennai, 15 October, ( Asiantribune.com): Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse has assured a team of parliamentarians from Tamil Nadu that 58000 out of 2.5 lakh Tamils uprooted during the final phase of the war with the separatist Tamil Tigers last May will be resettled in their homes in the next fortnight. This assurance was given to the team of MPs drawn from the DMK, the Congress and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi when they called on the President in Colombo on Tuesday. This was disclosed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to reporters here on Wednesday after he received the MPs who returned after a five-day visit to Sri Lanka. During their visit, they made an on-the-spot study of the conditions in the make-shift refugee camps in Jaffna and Vavunia. Team member and Karuanidhi's daughter Kanimothi told Asiantribune.com that Mr Rajapakse also assured them that his government was working on a solution to the ethnic conflict that "will meet not only the legitimate aspirations of members of all communities in Sri Lanka but also the concerns of our neighbor". This was the first time since the signing of the 1987 peace agreement between the then Indian Prime Minister, Mr Rajiv Gandhi, and the then Sri Lankan President JR Jayewardene, that a Sri Lankan leader has acknowledged India has a stake in ensuring peace in the island. Why has the Humanright Council praised State terrorist Sri Lanka? for killing over 53215 Tamils in last phase of war or because the LTTE did not execute numbers of Bombings in South to kill Sinhala civilians to divert the war? (because the Mullivaikaal war method was soon after conducted in swat region in Pakistan but real terrorist struck over 200 bombings within pakistan which brought the offensive to an halt) Yes LTTE followed untill the last phase the world rules of conducting a conventional war. The only obstacle was Blacktigers but it was only used to reduce the fire power of enemy millitary and economic target of Colombo Goverment. UN , India , USA , gave greenlights to Sri Lankan Army to use World banned Chemical Weapons, Phospor bombs, Cluster shells. The West prepaired the state Terrorist with maximum support to war even at any cost of Human lives. The Congress India directly obtained in the World the Chemical Weapons for Sri Lankan Army! India will be the biggest looser in future as it lost emotional relationship of Tamils. The pain we Tamils undergo without justice has given us mistrust and alien our self from this socalled democracy and todays world order.
Javed Chaudhry - host of Kal Tak program in Pakistan - contrasts Sindhi treatment of internally displaced persons (ie. IDPs) at the time of Partition of India with today's military operation in Malakand and Swat. He explains how Sindhi leadership - including MQM political party that claims to represent people who originally migrated from Hindustan at the time of Partition - is not keen on allowing IDPs from NWFP into Karachi and Hyderabad despite their status as Pakistani citizens. PLEASE READ MY COMMENTS ON THE VIDEO BEFORE WATCHING.
Sky News Did see only one IDP Camp, What you think about others IDP Camps? Yet more awful! Most of the arguments about Manik Farm (and other transit camps in the North of Sri Lanka) seem to get stuck on definitions and comparisons. Is it a concentration camp? Is it like the camps run by the Nazis or old colonial powers? I believe these debates miss the most important question: what is the actual predicament of people who have escaped from the Wanni to be held in these camps? Can we spend just a few minutes to really consider their situation? Or does victory mean we do not need to know the cost of liberation and do not care what their new form of captivity means to those who have been newly liberated?
