In electrical engineering and computer science, image processing is any form of signal processing for which the input is an image, such as a photograph or video frame; the output of image processing may be either an image or, a set of characteristics or parameters related to the image. Most image-processing techniques involve treating the image as a two-dimensional signal and applying standard signal-processing techniques to it. Image processing usually refers to digital image processing, but optical and analog image processing also are possible. This article is about general techniques that apply to all of them. The acquisition of images (producing the input image in the first place) is referred to as imaging. Since 2006, Brian B. Quinn has been finding ways to use geospatial data to define mirror world content in simulators accessed by Linden Lab type viewers. To date, he has recognized three levels of detail in mirror world builds based on real-world map data. Brian was trained as an exploration geophysicist, but to remain in the San Francisco Bay Area, he turned away from both academic and petroleum pursuits to work for a leading architecture, engineering, and construction firm. While there, Brian applied digital signal and image processing techniques to satellite and other remotely-sensed imagery. He also was trained to apply GIS to engineering and environmental projects.

"Most people have no idea what a tremendous impact radiology and telemedicine has on poor and remote regions of the world," said Rebecca Cornelius, MD, professor of radiology, neuroradiology, department of radiology, University Hospital, University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine. Cornelius was one of the physicians on the panel and video presentation "Zero Footprint Radiology and Telemedicine Build a Platform for Sustainable Care." Imaging Technology News presented the panel at the SIIM 2010 Annual Meeting June 4 in Minneapolis. The panelists how physicians based in the United States used teleradiology and telemedicine technology to treat patients located in a remote clinic in Honduras. The panelists made the case that this technology suite is the basis for sustainable health care outreach programs in the future. The panel then showed a video illustrating how physicians and technicians equipped The Roy and Melanie Sanders Frontera Medical Center in Honduras with the digital imaging and informatics infrastructure. Several providers donated the suite of imaging technology. The equipment included a telemedicine system and ultrasound probe from Global Media, VirtualPACS, a Web-based picture archiving and communication system (PACS) from MedWeb, MinXray provided a portable digital X-ray system and iCRco supplied the computed radiography (CR) unit. In the video, Dr. Juan Vasquez gives a live demonstration of how the imaging suite quickly and seamlessly operates. Vasquez ...

This simulation attempted to find the critical size of cobbles to overload the actuators. The yellow "warning signal" is now on most of the time. Looking at the picture-in-picture (view from the top of the stable platform) we can see some wobbles as the actuators lag behind their correct positions. The actuators simulated are real products with a max travel of around 6" and max speed of 2" per sec. The full force/speed profile from the unit is simulated here.

UC Berkeley ME 102B Spring 2010 A 2-axis turret is built to fire a laser at arbitrary colors. Image processing is done on the images from webcam mounted on the turret with OpenCV running on a laptop. The centroid of object is calculated and the distance from the center of the image is sent to the microcontroller, which runs a PID control algorithm to control the speed and direction of the 2 motors. The user is able to change the desired target in real-time. The turret is also capable of tracking faces using a hybrid of the Haar Classifier and Camshift algorithms. A Django web server allows a user to select a target remotely.

Discuss this video with our community at www.xcore.com Our second video based around the XMP-64 shows how Jamie Hanlon, a student undertaking a research project at University has developed programs to help him write test software to explore chip to chip communication. Key points covered include chip latency, barrier synchronisations, and an example program to show how easy it is to program in a parallel nature utilising as many processors as you need using XMOS and the XC programming language. The XMP-64 consists of 16 quad core G-series XMOS chips (64 processors in total) arranged in a hypercube allowing for very fast communication of data between processors (1.6 billion bits per second can flow between hypercube edges). The XMP-64 can therefore execute 25 billion instructions per second. Some applications a device such as the XMP-64 could be used in include: Image processing, Audio processing, Synthesizing, Communications, Packet inspection etc. To find out more, please watch the video. What would you use an XMP-64 for? Discuss it with us on our community forums at www.xcore.com

The aim of computer generated graphics is to produce the most realistic computer generated image possible, from that of a real-time image. The more realistic the rendered image, the improved experience the audience will receive. Therefore, Intel is developing a rendering technique called ray tracing which generates photo-realistic images and animations by simulating the actual physics of light. With the development of Intels processors, ray tracing is becoming more widely recognised and these advances in technology will help bring the vast amounts of parallel processing needed for real-time ray tracing into the mainstream. Which will in turn enhance the consumers viewing experience with the leading Hollywood film studios and video games developers now looking to use this technique in their forth coming projects.

Hello guys, This video is an attempt to make a computer mouse based on image processing which uses motion of head as it movement and voluntary closing of left or right eye as left click and right click. Thee first task in this project is to detect the location of face in the image using skin color. This video shows you the results of first attempt at the same. A red marker is shown on the face of head detected. This looks really slow right now because i have tried to create a video out of matlab using imshow in a loop and besides its being done on a laptop. Hope you like this video. More and more communities are looking for better ways to manage their urban forests. Whether that means seeking more eco-friendly options, or supporting more local initiatives, or both, developing a program to reclaim community wood will assist in reaching those goals. Urbanwood isnt really much different from traditional wood. Its durable, beautiful and renewable. The only difference is that it doesnt come from typical forests or lumber yards. Rather, it grows in backyards, parks, and neighborhoods. hoffman_nnfp_20080730_5450 John "Sawmill John" Haling is an urban sawyer in Michigan. Photo by Peter Hoffman. Unfortunately, trees removed from our cities are often seen as waste, and generally end up in a chipper. Urbanwood programs seek to end this cycle, by working to save logs. This creates a wide variety of green products, conserves resources, and supports local jobs. Turning an urban tree into a finished product is labor-intensive, but well worth the effort. Hazardous trees are removed due to death, disease, or development. Quality logs are handpicked and set aside. Local mills process the logs one at a time to preserve each ones unique character. The lumber from this waste wood becomes beautiful furniture or flooring for your home. Przemyslaw Musialski, Peter Wonka, Meinrad Recheis, Stefan Maierhofer, Werner Purgathofer. In this paper we address the problem of removing unwanted image content in a single orthographic façade image. We exploit the regular structure present in building façades and introduce a diffusion process that is guided by the symmetry prevalent in the image. It removes larger unwanted image objects such as traffic lights, street signs, or cables as well as smaller noise, such as reflections in the windows. The output is intended as source for textures in urban reconstruction projects.
