The Light House Media Centre required a video promotion for their growing international animation festival. The brief was to capture the vibrancy and flavour of the event as well as incorporate the 'Flip' brand using motion graphics. Flip is an eclectic mix of all things animation. Based in the heart of the Midlands the festival provides a wide range of experiences from educational workshops for young people to experimental animation for grown ups; from industry led panels to feature film screenings and from international showcases and retrospectives of short films to spotlights on animation studios. The video is presented by Maria Woodhouse. Music was composed by Charles H. Mills. Floyd Norman details some of the projects he's worked on as a story and concept artist, which includes not only the Pixar hits TOY STORY 2 and MONSTERS INC., but also the sadly unproduced animated features SWEATING BULLETS and WILD LIFE. en.wikipedia.org Floyd E. Norman (born c. 1936) is an American animator who worked on the Walt Disney animated features Sleeping Beauty, The Sword in the Stone and The Jungle Book along with various animated short projects at Disney in the late 50's and early 60's. After Walt Disney's death in 1966 Floyd Norman left Disney Studios to co-found the AfroKids animation studio with business partner animator/director Leo Sullivan. Norman and Sullivan worked together on various projects such as the original Hey! Hey! Hey! It's Fat Albert television special which aired in 1969 on NBC. (not to be confused with the later Fat Albert series made by Filmation Associates.) Floyd Norman returned to Disney at one point in the early 1970s to work on the Disney animated feature Robin Hood. More recently he has worked on motion pictures for the Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios, having contributed creatively as a story artist on films such as Toy Story 2 and Monsters, Inc. for Pixar and Mulan, Dinosaur and The Hunchback of Notre Dame for Walt Disney Animation among others. He continues to work for the Walt Disney Co. as a freelance consultant on various projects. Norman had his start as an assistant to comic book artist Bill Woggon ...
Waking Sleeping Beauty Trailer -- For more movie news, trailers, and interviews go to www.collider.com -- From 1984 to 1994, a perfect storm of people and circumstances changed the face of animation forever. Waking Sleeping Beauty is no fairytale. It is a story of clashing egos, out of control budgets, escalating tensions... and one of the most extraordinary creative periods in animation history. Director Don Hahn and producer Peter Schneider, key players at Walt Disney Studios Feature Animation department during the mid1980s, offer a behind-the-magic glimpse of the turbulent times the Animation Studio was going through and the staggering output of hits that followed over the next ten years. Artists polarized between the hungry young innovators and the old guard who refused to relinquish control, mounting tensions due to a string of box office flops, and warring studio heads create the backdrop for this fascinating story told with a unique and candid perspective from those that were there. Through interviews, internal memos, home movies, and a cast of characters featuring Michael Eisner, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and Roy Disney, alongside an amazing array of talented artists that includes Don Bluth, John Lasseter, and Tim Burton, Waking Sleeping Beauty shines a light on Disney Animations darkest hours, greatest joys and its improbable renaissance. Premiere of Pete's Odyssey tonight at Westminster October 9, 2009 The world premiere of Pete's Odyssey will begin tonight at 6:00 pm in the Van Fossan Theatre at Westminster Arts Center. This collaborative effort began several months ago in the Creative Arts and Technology animation studio as part of a learning project that was directed by award winning animator Larry Lauria and co-produced by Charlotte Rinderknecht of Studio Kinate in Fairfax, VA. CAT students and alumni and students from the East Orange Public School district, under the direction of Vincent Potuto, adjunct CAT instructor, worked for months to develop the drawings, animation, and set it all to the song Unafraid to Find by musician Michelle Armstrong. The 2-D animation project was the basis for what Lauria calls an incubator studio in which students learn all facets of the animation project. This experience gives the students a view of the whole scope of the project as well as giving them more marketable skills in the world of animation arts. The film short will be entered into national and international film festivals for review. The premiere will include a talk back with the artists, producers, and composer. It is free to the public. Van Fossan Theatre is located at the corner of Franklin and Fremont Streets in downtown Bloomfield. article by Jill Alexander - Bloomfield College - Video by Ramon L. Ortiz

Radka Bachvarova (aka Batchkarova Радка Бъчварова), 1918-1986, was the creator of 38 animated films for children, and apparantly an important personality from the golden age of Bulgarian animation. The bulgarian Sofia Animation Studio, founded by Dimitar Todorov-Jarava in 1948, was one of Europe's most acclaimed sources of creative animation. Like Zagreb, it has carved its own unique niche with an original graphic style, quirky storytelling, and dark comedy. The studios films have won countless awards and prizes, and its biannual World Animation Film Festival in Varna solidified Bulgaria as an international animation center.

Jinsha of 2006 the 1st animation themed by Jinsha, is the 1st aboriginal animated work penetrated with Chengdu culture. Jinsha, representative of Chengdu, is promoted towards the youth in a more fashionable way—through TV and Internet. The One Studio cooperated with Sinodoor Cartoon Company on Jinsha, being responsible for composing background music of the animation. It tells a miserable love story between Chi and Bi through war and revenge. This animation is legacy of ancient Shu with traditional Chinese culture. After a close study of the play, we chose modern orchestration, and mixed sounds to create its OST. During manufacturing process, we employed Irish flute, Indian instruments, and even human's voice besides orchestration and piano. Although Chinese traditional instruments were hardly applied (only minutes of two-stringed bowed instrument), the background music is a perfect embodiment of the theme. The animation adds up to 26 minutes without human dubbings,23 of which is accompanied with background music. Two primary melodies, standing for War and Love, tremendously impress the audience from the beginning to the end with varieties and differences. Moreover, the whole project was done within only 23 days. The finished audio effect and video pictures are quite complementary to each other. In this sense, Jinsha is one of the most successful projects we've ever done. ========================================= The One Studio, affiliated to The One Music, is operated by ...

This is a behind-the-scenes featurette about the production of 9-11/9-11 an animated film directed by conceptual artist Mel Chin. American filmmaker Chip Schneider produced and edited. The animation was done by hand, in pencil, by Chilean animation studio Planovisual. In February 2008, the Chilean Arts and Cultural Council honored 9-11/9-11 with the Sienna Award - the "Oscar" of Chile - for Best Animated Short Film. 9-11/9-11 also received awards from FeSanCor - the Santiago International Short Film Festival, and the Southern Appalachian Film Festival. Roger Ebert writes, "What a sad, angry, beautiful film. I was spellbound." 9-11/9-11 is now available from IndiePix! www.indiepixfilms.com The terrorist attacks of 9-11-2001 in New York forever scarred the trust of the American people. On the same date, 28 years before, the military overthrow of a democratically elected president ushered in 17 years of autocratic rule under Augusto Pinochet, resulting in the deaths of more than 3000 people and the torture of tens of thousands. 9-11/9-11 is a tale of two cities and a tragedy of two times... a story of love and hope wrecked by overt - and covert - manipulations of power. Many of the animators who worked on 9-11/9-11 grew up at the time of coup in Chile... and the violence that came with it. 9-11/9-11 premiered on September 11, 2007 with simultaneous screenings in Santiago de Chile and the four largest cities in the US --New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Houston. To celebrate Channel Frederator podcast's first anniversary, Frederator Studios has created Fred-Ex, an ongoing experiment in animation collaboration exploring the existence of robots. Frederator has assembled a global group of enthusiastic animation directors and creators to answer in a toon an age-old question: "What is it like to be a robot?" THE SECRET LIFE OF ROBOTS is the first installment of the Fred-Ex series. Started in July, exec producers/contributing animators Dan Meth and Lee Rubenstein chose 15 Channel Frederator alumni to animate on the project, randomly matching each of them with a single word. They were given two months to produce 10-20 seconds of original content each, using their subject to depict a specific aspect of robot existence. The compilation film is a quirky look into the lives of robots, with each individual cartoon in it reflecting the creator's individual artistic style, and, at times, seriously twisted sense of humor. Animation talent on Fred-Ex include Bernard Derriman (EVERYONE ELSE HAS HAD MORE SEX THAN ME), Doug Bresler (DOOGTOONS) and Seed Animation (FREE RANGE), as well as more than a dozen other filmmakers from five countries. THE SECRET LIFE OF ROBOTS merges merging Flash, stop-motion, hand-drawn, and 3D CGI techniques. OFFICIAL SELECTION AT 2007 PLATFORM INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION FESTIVAL
www.wiccanchicken.com This was created for the 2006 Ottawa International Animation Festival Television Animation Conference "Pitch THIS!" panel (woo! what a mouthful!) as a way to quickly introduce all the characters for the proposed adult-animated television series. It's hard to explain this outside of the context of the pitch, but basically, this was created to show as many character attitudes as possible in a short period of time in order to promote the show to television executives. ______________________________________ Voice Talent Announcer: Joe Torres Wic: Stephanie Yuhas JD: Jeremy Doe Bigfoot: Joe Torres ____________________________ Animation: Adam Cusack Liesje Kraai Stephen Murphy Stephanie Yuhas _____________________ Editing: Stephanie Yuhas Sound Recoding: Crystalline Studios Music: "The Chicken Dance" ______ Created & Written by Stephanie Yuhas Produced at Shinygrape Studios _______________________________________ Are you a filmmaker, too?
