www.abc.net.au It is almost twelve months since Iranians turned out in their thousands for days on end to protest the disputed re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. This Green Revolution posed the most significant threat to the legitimacy of the Iranian regime since it became an Islamic Republic. But on the thirty-first anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in February, the regime suppressed further planned protests with the help of pro-regime demonstrators, the Revolutionary Guard and militia groups. However the Iran of today is a society that's changed greatly from that of 31 years ago. Dr Reza Aslan believes that Iran is in less danger from its theocratic leadership than its military.

Based in Tel Aviv, Radis-in started earlier this year as a Persian music radio station. Now Radis-in has gone political — voicing its support for the reformist movement in Iran. Owner Amir Shai left Iran in 1980 and became an Israeli citizen. He funds the station with help from advertising revenue and fills lots of airtime these days with calls from Tehran. [Amir Shai, Radis-in Station Owner]: "We know that a large majority of the Iranian police is cooperating with the Iranian people. There was an incident in which about 430 people were arrested; young people who were handcuffed and seated by the road. The Iranian policemen uncuffed them and told them to escape." Near the radio station, both first generation Israelis and natives of Iran visit a traditional Persian restaurant. Israel is home to tens of thousands of Iranian immigrants. Many have high hopes for the recent demonstrations there, like Asher Adiv who lives in Tel Aviv but was born in Iran. [Acher Adiv, Iranian Born – Tel Aviv Resident]: "We hope that eventually we can go to visit Iran without problem." Back at the station, Shai says Radis-in server has been broken into and broadcasting has been disrupted at times by the Iranian authorities. But three decades of cold war-style hostility between his two homelands won't keep Shai from voicing his and other Iranians opinions.
On Sunday June 21st thousands of Iranian Canadians rallied in Toronto's Queen's Park to show solidarity with the people of Iran who are peacefully protesting the disputed 2009 election results. CBC Radio's Jian Ghomeshi gives a passionate speech finishing off with "Natarsid, natarsid, ma hame ba ham hastim!", translates to "Don't be scared. Don't be scared. Together we are unified!"
This is footage from Sunday's demonstration in front of the Los Angeles federal building in support of the Iranian people. A woman, asked to offer words for broadcast on Iranian-American radio, speaks of thirty years of oppression by the regime in power in Iran. She addresses Neda, telling the deceased that the world knows her now. "We have heard your voice. We are sad that you are not with us. But we are all with you. To the last drop of my blood, I, Shayda, will continue your way. Your way will go on, my dear Neda." Another woman calls out: "Nedaye nazaninam, rahet edame darad." The call is taken up by several people. "Neda, my lovely, your way will go on."
