It was made for less than a thousand dollars. It has been slightly shortened and chopped into three pieces to fit here on You Tube. Bob/Valerie was made by a co-worker of Valerie's who worked at the massage table manufacturing place shown in the film. Portions of Ed Wood's "Glen or Glenda" are used alongside clips from a variety of news magazine shows and sitcoms focused on gender issues.

Jon Caramanica of The New York Times proclaimed that Kesha's rap-singing style in "TiK ToK" represented "the complete and painless assimilation of the white female rapper into pop music" as part of a crop of "white-girl rap" songs released in 2009, calling her a "double threat".[20] In an interview with Digital Spy, Kesha described her music as irreverent and defended her decision to make pop music for her first album as opposed to "more serious acoustic stuff", explaining that she wanted to "give people something that brings them joy."[27] She has expressed interest in releasing a country music album in the future because of her love for the genre.[20] Kesha's songwriting is rooted in her life experiences[10] and influenced by the storytelling style country music.[7] Her frank and humorous lyrics prompted Ryan Dombal of The Village Voice to compare her to Lily Allen and Katy Perry, however, he later concedes that "[d]istinguishing a Kesha song is surprisingly easy."[28] She has ...
BlackTree TVs Jamaal Finkley, sits down with the Directors of this historic animation film, and talked about the mysterious road of an animator as well as the return to 2D animation in this new Disney classic. JOHN MUSKER (Director) continues to be a major force in the art of animation and one of Disneys greatest resources. From The Little Mermaid and Aladdin to the epic comedy Hercules, his irreverent wit, strong visual style and unconventional approach to storytelling helped to create some of the most successful films in motion-picture history. Born in Chicago, Ill., Musker first began drawing while in grammar school and knew by the age of 8 that he wanted to become an animator. Inspired by such Disney classics as Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio, as well as Bob Thomas primer The Art of Animation, he developed a thorough understanding of the animation process. His fascination with comics, cartoons and Mad Magazine further stimulated his desire to draw. At Loyola Academy, a Jesuit high school in Wilmette, Ill., Musker became a cartoonist for the school paper. His special brand of caricature, which included outrageous sketches of teachers and school celebrities, quickly caught on. This preoccupation with caricature and cartooning continued throughout his college years at Northwestern University, where he majored in English and drew cartoons for The Daily Northwestern. Following graduation from college in 1974, Musker put together a portfolio and set out for California to ...

Paul Krassner (born April 9, 1932) is an author, journalist, stand-up comedian, and the founder, editor and a frequent contributor to the freethought magazine The Realist, first published in 1958. The Realist was published on a fairly regular schedule during the 1960s, then on an irregular schedule after the early 1970s. In 1966, Krassner published The Realist's controversial "Disneyland Memorial Orgy" poster, illustrated by Wally Wood, and he recently made this famed black-and-white poster available in a digital color version. The Realist also distributed a red, white and blue Cold War bumper sticker that read "Fuck Communism." Krassner's most notorious satire was the article following the censorship of William Manchester's book on the Kennedy assassination: The Parts That Were Left Out of the Kennedy Book. At the climax of the grotesque-genre short-story, Lyndon B. Johnson is described as having sexually penetrated the bullet-hole wound in the throat of JFK's corpse. According to Elliot Feldman, "Some members of the mainstream press and other Washington political wonks, including Daniel Ellsberg of Pentagon Papers fame, actually believed this incident to be true." In a 1995 interview for the magazine Adbusters, Krassner commented: "People across the country believed - if only for a moment - that an act of presidential necrophilia had taken place. It worked because Jackie Kennedy had created so much curiosity by censoring the book she authorized - William Manchester's ...
Paul Krassner (born April 9, 1932) is an author, journalist, stand-up comedian, and the founder, editor and a frequent contributor to the freethought magazine The Realist, first published in 1958. The Realist, edited and published by Paul Krassner, was a pioneering magazine of "social-political-religious criticism and satire" in the American countercultural press of the mid-20th century. Although The Realist is often regarded as a major milestone in the underground press, it was a nationally-distributed newsstand publication as early as 1959. Publication was discontinued in 2001. The Realist was the first satirical magazine to publish conspiracy theories. First published in the spring of 1958 in New York City in the offices of Mad, The Realist appeared on a fairly regular schedule during the 1960s and then on an irregular schedule after the early 1970s. It was revived as a much smaller newsletter during the mid-1980s when material from the magazine was collected in The Best of the Realist: The 60's Most Outrageously Irreverent Magazine (Running Press, 1985). The final issue of The Realist was #146 (Spring 2001). The Realist provided a format for extreme satire in its articles, cartoons, and Krassner's editorials, but it also carried more traditionally serious material in articles and interviews. The magazine was the first to provide a forum for conspiracy researcher Mae Brussell and also published political commentary from Norman Mailer, Ken Kesey, and Joseph Heller ...

Scoring weed for your uncle...Hanging out with porn stars on Christmas Eve...Eating nachos with the Mossad...these tales and more are to be found in SEX, DRUGS & GEFILTE FISH, the first book from Heeb magazine—the definitive voice of a proud, searching, and irreverent new generation of American Jews. SEX, DRUGS & GEFILTE FISH draws from a literary series launched by Heeb in the summer of 2003 and features the humor and chutzpah of Laura Silverman, Michael Showalter, Andy Borowitz, Joel Stein, Stephen Glass, Ben Greenman, Darrin Strauss and many more Jews and non-Jews alike. The stories, like the magazine, show how being Jewish can be hilarious, touching, and downright strange. www.heebmagazine.com www.amazon.com
From the collection of Corpral Donald Elson, United States Army Air Corps. The following is a discription of this art form from the web site, "Military Aircraft Nose art" parentseyes.arizona.edu -- Nose art thrived in its infancy largely because servicemen had more freedom to alter their aircraft. Although the military never officially sanctioned nose art, it unofficially approved it as a morale-booster. It was a survival technique in a harsh environment. A little bit of levity and diversion goes a long way, and a measure of pride and enthusiasm comes from individual expression. Similarly, young men, who were generally under the age of twenty, could derive some comfort from images of women, mother, and home. Anne Josephine Hayward, a member of the American Red Cross Aero Club in England and a painter of nose art, challenges current objections to nose art as degrading to women or others: "Its purpose was worthy, to bolster military morale in a terrible time. The members of each crew came to feel that their plane and their painting were somehow special and would bring them luck, a safe return from hostile skies. The art may have been frivolous at times, but it was never anti-social" (Ethell, pp. 120-121). The characteristics of World War II aircraft art and the fact that it flourished during that time are indicators of that era. The art reflects the attitude of the people involved in the war--both at home and on the front, and, in the case of World War II, the attitude was ...

The founding core of the band consisted of four friends—George Cummings, Dennis Locorriere, Ray Sawyer, Billy Francis—who had played up and down the East Coast and into the Midwest, ending up in New Jersey one by one, with invitations from founding band member George Cummings. Told by a club owner that they needed a name to put on a poster in the window of his establishment, Cummings made a sign: "Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show: Tonic for the Soul." The name was inspired by the traveling medicine shows of the old West. To this day, frontman Ray Sawyer is mistakenly considered Dr. Hook because of the eyepatch he wears as the result of a near-fatal 1967 car accident in Oregon. CBS Records head Clive Davis had a memorable meeting with the group, described in Davis' autobiography. Drummer David used a wastepaper basket to keep the beat, and while Sawyer, Locorriere and Cummings played and sang a few songs, Francis hopped up and danced on the mogul's desk. This meeting secured the band their first record deal. Subsequently the band went on to international success over the next 12 years with Haffkine as the group's manager as well as producer of all the Dr.Hook recordings. Their self-titled 1971 debut album featured guitarist Cummings, singer Sawyer, drummer David, singer/guitarist, bass player Locorriere, and keyboard player Billy Francis. The album included their first hit, "Sylvia's Mother." Shel Silverstein wrote the lyrics for many of Dr. Hooks early songs (in fact, he ...
Is our people's God jealous of your people's God? Should religion unite us or divide us? Is our view of your God driven by theology, or is it shaped by whether we want to trade with you or take your land? Why can't we all just get along, anyway? These questions are as universal and as timeless as, well, God... and are at the heart of Robert Wright's new authoritative yet irreverent book, The Evolution of God. Please join New America's Bernard Schwartz Fellows program to celebrate our senior fellow's evolution (Bob's, that is) over wine and cheese and a spirited talk about the birth and growth of the Abrahamic God - and why his best years may lie ahead (God's, that is). A series of dares featuring the hilarious and irreverent Jon Dore, host of the Comedy Network's "The Jon Dore Television Show".
Postmodern ironists cloaked behind a veil of buoyantly melodic and lushly romantic synth pop confections, the Pet Shop Boys' cheeky, smart, and utterly danceable music established them among the most commercially and critically successful groups of their era. Always remaining one step ahead of their contemporaries, the British duo navigated the constantly shifting landscape of modern dance-pop with rare grace and intelligence, moving easily from disco to house to techno with their own distinctive image remaining completely intact. Satiric and irreverent -- yet somehow strangely affecting -- the Pet Shop Boys transcended the seeming disposability of their craft, offering wry and thoughtful cultural commentary communicated by the Morse code of au courant synth washes and drum-machine rhythms. Pet Shop Boys formed in London in August 1981 when vocalist Neil Tennant (a former editor at Marvel Comics who later gained some notoriety as a journalist for Smash Hits magazine) first met keyboardist Chris Lowe (a onetime architecture student) at an electronics shop. Discovering a shared passion for dance music and synthesizers, they immediately decided to start a band. Dubbing themselves the Pet Shop Boys in honor of friends who worked in such an establishment -- while also obliquely nodding to the sort of names prevalent among the New York City hip-hop culture of the early 1980s -- the duo's career first took flight in 1983, when Tennant met producer Bobby "O" Orlando while on a ...

This Show: Jackie McGee hosts OKra on her cable talk show and the sparks fly!! (GENERAL) THE SHOW: I am going to produce a web series hosted by Okra Wimbley; of the Wimbley stadium Wimbleys. She is a talk show host who has been ignored by the public because of no other than Oprah Winfrey. She details many ills that Opran has perpetrated unto her; namely she was in the first movie, 'The Color Okra... which Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey stole from her. Also from Chicago she feels that if she would have stayed in Chicago she could have been the world's greatest talk show host of the Universe like Oprah. It's a rare occasion when Okra says Oprah's name, it pains her to actually say the name out loud. Okra's magazine 'OK: R You?' Is always second in sells to Oprah's O magazine. Okra's studio: ARKO, which she says she put the letters of name backward first is also second to Harpo Studios in monetary assets. Always on the move with her three camera crew; 'Camera One, Camera Two and Camera Three: Okra's On!! Hey everybody,' Okra's presence is one you will not forget soon. With guests that range from local legends to stars of hollywood, new york, paris, south africa and around the world. Upbeat, irreverent, current, trend setter, love inducer, talk show Queen and muy caliente spicy, Okra is definitely ON! and you don't want to miss one second!! 'OKRA'S ON!!!
TORO TV is a meta-magazine style webisode in which I, as executive producer of toromagazine.com, interact with contributors in unscripted behind-the-scenes moments. The show has a simple two-part structure, alternating from edited clips of the various video franchises (Drinks, Sports, etc.) to irreverent, off-the-cuff moments between myself and our on-air columnists. The show explores male culture, and what men want, in a comedic way. TORO TV is a "best of site" advertisement for video content; it's also an irreverent peek behind the curtain as to just how toromagazine.com comes together each and every week.

Complete video at: fora.tv Author AJ Jacobs discusses the motivations behind his book, "The Year of Living Biblically: One Man's Humble Qest to Follow the Bible as Literally as Possible." ----- AJ Jacobs discusses "The Year of Living Biblically." "The Year of Living Biblically" answers the question: What if a modern-day American followed every single rule in the Bible as literally as possible. Not just the famous rules - the Ten Commandments and Love Thy Neighbor (though certainly those). But the hundreds of oft-ignored ones: don't wear clothes of mixed fibers. Grow your beard. Stone adulterers. AJ Jacobs' experiment is surprising, informative, timely and funny. It is both irreverent and reverent. It seeks to discover what's good in the Bible and what is maybe not so relevant to 21st century life. And it will make you see the Good Book with new eyes. Thou shalt not put it down. AJ Jacobs is an editor at large at Esquire magazine, for which he wrote the article "My Outsourced Life". His last book was "The Know-It-All" in which he described the process of reading the entire Encyclopedia Britannica. - Cody's Books

Burly Jersey. Frozen Maine. Fickle Ireland. Crazy New York. Reeling Mex. Joe Carter somehow manages to make all these sometimes-sorta places go off, melting them seamlessly together with '80s-tinted electronic jams, goofy gags and artsy angles. It's everything surf videos should be: fun, irreverent and chok-full of heavy shredding. With a stunt crew that includes Chris Ward, Sam Hammer, Noah Snyder, Billy Hume and Ian Parnell.
