This dive site is located near Ilgen, MN in Lake Superior. This dive site is very hard to get to from the road because of a very steep hill down to the lake with football sized boulders all over it. The cave in itself is very cool to dive through. It has an entrance on the lake side and an exit on the beach side. The total length of the swim through is about 70' long and only approx 15' deep. Once inside be sure to surface and check out the cavernous interior. Swimming out at the beach side continue South along the beach and you will find an old log/rock dock crib from the 3M company in about 25' to 35' of water. It was worth seeing once but I will use a boat to access this site if I do it again.
This dive was my first dive in Lake Superior and my first dive after receiving my dry suit card. There were about 25 people on shore when I arrived but by the time I got geared up, all the divers were coming back to shore from the wreck. I ended up diving this wreck solo. I surface swam to the stern buoy and dropped down to the wreck. I swam around this stern section for a few minutes taking video and still photos and wanted to swim to the bow section, but my dive flag was tangled on the mooring buoy. I just spent the balance of the dive on the stern. The water temp was 39 degrees for this September dive and the viz was about 20 feet. The max depth for this dive was about 65 feet. It was definitely worth diving here and next time I will spend some time on the bow section and the debris field toward Gold Rock point.
This old boat was found the day after Christmas while Ice diving on Green Lake in Isanti County MN. The weather was nice and the lake was slushy. The ice was about 10 thick. Along with the boat we found 5 anchors, An old coke bottle, an old ice spud (or maybe it was a logging "pike pole" I am not sure), 2 dippers, and some lures stuck to the old wood boat. The boat is approximately 14' to 16' long and about 5' wide. It could have been an old sailboat I guess. Anyway it was a great day to swim under the ice.

This is part 3 of 4. This was a high altitude solo dive. This was a stern wheeler that was sunk in Upper Waterton Lake in Alberta Canada just North of Glacier National Park. It is an easy shore dive and the hull is intact. This portion of video was near the stern showing all the fish near the steam pistons. The square wood tube that goes through the deck near the stern was probably where the "head" was located.

This portion of the video shows the side of the hull and what is left of the cabin walls. most of the deck boards are gone exposing the interior of the hold. the two arms that held the paddle wheel on the stern are still there but the wheel is gone. There were a lot of Arctic Grayling swimming around the plank "splash wall" near the stern.

In the middle of the dam there is a plaque that a dive club called Trident Divers placed there some time ago. The visibility was about 25' down to a depth of about 40' deep. Then the visibility was cut considerably. The dam is located near Banff, Alberta Canada

team was conducting an Underwater Crime Scene Investigation ice dive training at a site called "Purgatory" on 2-7-09. No items were found but we learned a lot from ice diving this site. There is a submerged layer of trees at 50 feet below the surface that makes diving below 50 feet treacherous with the safety rope. Well.....If you've seen the Isanti County Dive Team Quest for the Ring.... Yes indeed we dove DEEEP into the depths of Mordor (or in this case a quarry know as Purgatory..). The quest for the ring on Mille Lacs lake , MN 1-24-09. A fisherman lost his wedding ring down the icehole.
