Lord Krishna or Krishna Bhagwan is worshipped by Hindus. He is known as the avatar or reincarnation of Lord Vishnu by Vaishnavas whereas others consider him as the Supreme Being. He is often referred to as a young mischievous boy, a prankster, playing the flute. His complexion is depicted as dark blue, wearing a yellow dhoti and a head gear with a peacock feather. There are several tales in the Bhagavat Purarna where Krishna is shown as the prince who rescues his family, friends and villages from troubles by offering them advice and showing them the right path. Krishna was born on Janmashtami in the royal family of Mathura. He was the 8th son of princess Devaki and Vasudeva. He was known as makhan chor or butter thief in his childhood. There are several stories of him playing with the Gopis or milk maids which are known as Ras Leelas. He was also the protector of Vrindavan and he killed demons such as Putana and tamed the ferocious snake Kalia.
