. At the age of nine (1956) he was affected greatly by the Elvis Presley song Heartbreak Hotel playing on radio, and decided to attempt a career as a Rock & Roll musician at that young age[1]. His influences included Gene Vincent, Jack Scott, Billy Lee Riley, Eddie Cochran and other notable rock 'n roll music artists of the period. He made his recording debut at age 17 (1964) with a group called the Confidentials. The Confidentials, with Robert (called Bob at the time) as main singer recorded, amongst others: Summertime, Money, and There is something on your mind. These rare tracks were first released during 2004 on 40th Anniversary Celebration (a special promo CD released by Dutch author/collector Arjan Deelen). When asked how he related to the 1960s, Robert replied "I didn't." He didn't care much for the British Invasion but he identified with soul singers such as James Brown and Otis Redding whom he saw, among other great R&B acts, performing at Washington dc's famous Howard Theatre. During the turbulent times of the late 1960s, with the rioting and anti-war protests of the period, Robert served in the National Guard in DC. "I didn't want to be sent to Vietnam," he recalls[1]. [edit] Punk rock Robert Gordon, referred to by friends and fans as RG [1], moved to New York City in 1970 and a few years later joined a Punk Rock band there known as the Tuff Darts. During 1976, the Tuff Darts recorded All for the love of Rock & Roll, Head over heels and Slash for a compilation ...

Birth Name Michael Joseph Jackson Nickname The Gloved One Wacko Jacko Jacko King Of Pop MJ Height 5' 10" (1.78 m) Mini Biography American superstar Michael Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana on August 29, 1958 and entertained audiences nearly his entire life. His father, Joseph Jackson, had been a guitarist but was forced to give up his musical ambitions following his marriage to Katherine (Scruse). Together they prodded their growing family's musical interests at home. By the early 60s the older boys Jackie, Tito and Jermaine had begun performing around the city; by 1964 Michael and Marlon had joined in. A musical prodigy, Michael's singing and dancing talents were amazingly mature and he soon became the dominant voice and focus of "The Jackson 5." An opening act for such soul groups as the O-Jays and James Brown, it was Gladys Knight (not Diana Ross) who officially brought the group to 'Berry Gordy''s attention, and by 1969 the boys were producing back-to-back chart-busting hits as Motown artists ("I Want You Back," "ABC," "Never Can Say Goodbye," "Got to Be There," etc.). Biography Born: October 16, 1935 Sugar Pie De Santo - Blues Singer Sugar Pie desanto has been called the Queen of West Coast Blues and a legendary figure in the history of Bay Area blues and beyond. Sugar Pie desanto was born Umpeylia Marsema Balinton, October 16, 1935. Her African American mom and her Filipino dad are responsible for her good looks, talent and great voice. Her mother was a concert pianist and taught Umpeylia how to sing - as she did with all her 10 children. In the early 50s 19-year-old Umpeylia was discovered by Johnny Otis at a talent show. Otis is also responsible for Umpeylia's stage name as he named her Little Miss Sugar Pie (in reference to her height). The name desanto was added years later by Oakland disc jockey Don Barksdale. Her first recording was with Otis but in1959 she hit gold with a solo hit record, I Want to Know for Checker Records. She subsequently became an opening act for James Brown for two straight years. She also toured with Gladys Knight, The Miracles and The Temptations, wowing audiences with her stage presentation and vocal delivery. She performed at the Apollo Theatre in New York and the famed Regal in Chicago. Due to her strong writing skills, Sugar Pie started recording and writing for Chicago's Chess/Checker label. Chess used her more for writing songs than recording. The reason is quite simple, Chess wanted to protect the success of other female Chess artists like Etta James, who is actually Sugar Pie's younger cousin but ...

My tribute to the genius that was Michael Jackson. The King Of Pop. 29th August 1958 - 25th June 2009. Michael Jackson's unique blend of soul, funk and rock made him the biggest pop act in the world. Beyond this, his business acumen and intuitive understanding of the music market allowed him to showcase his remarkable talents. Michael Jackson sold records by the million - and broke records too. With the soulful vocal presence of Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder and the dance moves of James Brown, Jackson's appeal crossed both national and racial boundaries. His first break came in 1968, when the Jackson Five signed to the Motown label, and he was just 11 when the group released its first single. Hits like I Want You Back, ABC, The Love You Save, and I'll Be There, which all went to number one in the United States in 1970, made the Jackson Five the first group in pop history to have their first four singles top the charts. Before long, the youngest member of the Jackson Five was beginning to outstrip his brothers. A series of solo hits, including Got To Be There, Rockin' Robin and Ben had shown that the promise of early years had come to fruition. By the mid-1970s, both Michael's, and his brothers', careers were beginning to stall. Motown has ended its interest in the group, which had re-signed - as the Jacksons - to the Epic label and had a few hits like 'Can You Feel It'. Music producer, composer and arranger, Quincy Jones, who could already boast a formidable track record ...
Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 June 25, 2009) was an American recording artist, entertainer and businessman. The seventh child of the Jackson family, he made his début to the professional music scene at the age of 11 as a member of The Jackson 5 in 1969, and began a solo career in 1971 while still a member of the group. Referred to as the "King of Pop"[2] in subsequent years, his 1982 album Thriller is the world's best-selling record of all time[3] and four other solo studio albums are also among the world's best-selling records: Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991) and history (1995). In the early 1980s, he became a dominant figure in popular music and the first African-American entertainer to amass a strong crossover following on MTV. The popularity of his music videos airing on MTV, such as "Beat It", "Billie Jean" and Thriller—widely credited with transforming the music video from a promotional tool into an art form—helped bring the relatively new channel to fame. Videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream" made Jackson an enduring staple on MTV in the 1990s. With stage performances and music videos, Jackson popularized a number of physically complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk. His distinctive musical sound and vocal style influenced many hip hop, pop and contemporary R&B artists. Singer, songwriter. Jackson was born August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana, to an African-American working-class family. His father, Joseph Jackson, had been a guitarist but had put aside his musical aspirations to provide for his family as a crane operator. Believing his sons had talent, he molded them into a musical group in the early 1960s. At first, the Jackson Family performers consisted of Michaels older brothers Tito, Jermaine, and Jackie. Michael joined his siblings when he was five, and emerged as the groups lead vocalist. He showed remarkable range and depth for such a young performer, impressing audiences with his ability to convey complex emotions. Older brother Marlon also became a member of the group, which evolved into the Jackson 5. Behind the scenes, Joseph Jackson pushed his sons to succeed. He was also reportedly known to become violent with them. Michael and his brothers spent endless hours rehearsing and polishing up their act. At first, the Jackson 5 played local gigs and built a strong following. They recorded one single on their own, Big Boy with the b-side Youve Changed, but it failed to generate much interest. The Jackson 5 moved on to working an opening act for such R&B artists as Gladys Knight and the Pips, James Brown, and Sam and Dave. Many of these performers were signed to the legendary Motown record label, and it has been reported that Gladys Knight may have been the one to tell Motown founder Berry Gordy about the Jackson 5. Laura Izibor. Album : "Let the Truth Be Told" To be released Friday 09/05/09 Laura Biography(quoted from website): Born to a working class family in Dublin, Ireland, Izibor admits she didn't grow up in a musical household. "My mother raised five kids on her own, so there wasn't much time to buy records - it wasn't that kind of home. I found myself fancying music at about 13." Once the love for musicians like Stevie Wonder, Candi Stanton, and Roberta Flack took hold, she was smitten for good. "One door opened to the next - first I discovered Marvin Gaye, and then Otis Redding, and I just fell in love with soul music." At the age of 15, Izibor won a prestigious national performance competition, the "2FM Song Contest." At 17, she started work on her debut album, taking the time to really hone her songs. Let The Truth Be Told was recorded over the course of four years in a diverse range of cities: New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Dublin among them. Laura also performed live constantly during this period, finding her true home onstage. Having performed several sold-out shows in Ireland, and opened for acts including James Brown, Angie Stone, and The Roots, she's earned the affectionate moniker "The Soul of Ireland" from the folks back home www.lauraizibor.co.uk -Laura's Dublin Acoustic performance of this song www.lauraizibor.com http We only learnt it today!
