Colorado has the second largest space economy in the nation with over 171000 space-related jobs, and billions of dollars in annual revenue. Colorado is also the only state with four National Defense Command Centers--the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD); US Air Force Command; US Northern Command (NORTHCOM); and the US Army Command. A growing part of Colorado's proud aerospace industry resides in Jefferson County, which ranks first in the seven-county metro Denver region for 2007 aerospace employment concentration. These industry leaders include Lockheed Martin Corporation, Ball Aerospace and Technologies Corporation, United Launch Alliance, Ophir Corporation and MicroSat Systems Inc. These industry leaders and others are working on projects related to national defense, satellite communications and space exploration. The Colorado School of Mines (CSM) in Golden is a leading public research university with programs supporting several areas associated with aerospace. It is home to the Center for Space Resources which recently launched the 8th Continent Project—an initiative to integrate space technology and resources into the global economy. There is also a growing number of workforce training initiatives throughout Colorado designed to help recruit and train the next generation of aerospace engineers.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Despite the protests, Louisville's busing program has continued... Jefferson County Public Schools was hit with a second lawsuit for its student assignment plan. (2009) A Louisville woman claims her daughter was denied admission to a local school because of her race, and said her daughter's civil rights have been violated. Attorney Teddy Gordon filed that second lawsuit earlier this week. Gordon claims the student, who is Chinese, was denied admission to Stopher Elementary School, primarily because of her race, violating her civil rights. Last month, Gordon filed a similar lawsuit involving a kindergarten student from India who also wants to attend Stopher but who will instead be bussed to a school nearly 30 miles away. She lives about 500 hundred feet from Zachary Taylor Elementary, but will be sent 18 miles away to Portland Elementary. According to JCPS, more than 600 of those transfers have already been denied. 2010 During a court hearing about a motion to dismiss the latest lawsuit filed against Jefferson County Public Schools over its student assignment plan, three lawyers representing 13 parents argued Thursday that the district is violating a state law by not allowing students to attend the school closest to their homes J. Bruce Miller, a Louisville attorney representing six of the plaintiffs in the case, told Jefferson Circuit Court Judge Irv Maze that the district's student assignment plan is all about "social engineering" and that the district ...

The PAINT (Producing Art In Neighborhoods Together) program is run and operated by Louisville-based 501(c)3 "Center For Neighborhoods". This project "Weaving Unity Into Community" focused on working with youth and residents living at the Parkway Place public housing community in Louisville's Parkhill neighborhood. The artist partner on this project was fiber artist and art therapist Pat Sturtzel. This project was made possible thanks to collaborative institutional and organizational partnerships involving: Center For Neighborhoods (project organizer, facilitator, staffing), Louisville Metro Housing Authority (organizer, facilitator, staffing, space), and the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft (facilitation and staff), and Jefferson County Public Schools (allowed use of their fence). Funding for this program was provided through grants from the Kentucky Arts Council's "Arts Build Communities" program and the Cralle Foundation. Additional support was provided by The Green Building, Kertis Creative, Sud-Chemie, and Metro United Way. This project would not have been possible without the support for numerous dedicated community volunteers. Thank you!

Feb 23, 2010 4:44 pm US/Mountain 2 Young People Shot At Middle School In LittletonLITTLETON, Colo. (CBS4) An arrest was made in Littleton Tuesday afternoon after two young people were shot on the campus at Deer Creek Middle School. The victims suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crime, which apparently happened after 3 pm -- about the time school was letting out. One of the victims was male and one was female. Jefferson County Sheriff spokesman Mark Techmeyer said the shooter was an adult male. "We got on the scene and Jefferson County deputies were able to take into custody one adult male," Techmeyer said. "We have two victims, both juveniles. One was in the front of the school, outside of the school, and the other one was inside the school." The school was on lockdown at 4 pm and students were being taken from the school to nearby Stony Creek Elementary at 7203 South Everett Street. "A lot of the students have already been escorted out of the school and have moved over to Stony Creek. We're asking the parents, obviously concerned for their kids they can pick up their children at Stony Creek Elementary," Techmeyer said. Concerned parents can call the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office at (303) 271-0211. Deer Creek Middle School is part of the Jeffco Public Schools, located between Simms and Kipling north of Ken Caryl Avenue in a residential area. Below is a message sent to parents of students at Deer Creek from the school: Parents and staff of Jeffco Public ...
