Jean made her first guest appearance on the series "Hotel" in the episode entitled "Deceptions" (11/30/83). Her character is celebrating her birthday (one minute into the clip), but her children (played by Elinor Donahue and James Houghton) aren't quite as into the celebration as she is. The boy hiding out in the hotel was played by Jeremy Licht. And in the third storyline of the episode, John Davidson's character is blackmailing Pat Klous's character. Regular cast members Shea Farrell, Heidi Bohay, Shari Belafonte, Connie Sellecca, and James Brolin also appear at various points in the clip.
Sandy and Mike set each other up with their friends and decide that if they have to suffer through blind dates, they might as well make it a double date. What they're not prepared for is how well their dates will hit it off - with each other. Having taken up a course in Psychology, David begins to feel that he and his brothers have drifted apart - and decides to try to fix the gap.

SPECIAL THANK YOU TO EDSTER73 AND CBS1977 FOR ALLOWING ME TO POST THIS FROM THEIR COLLECTIONS! Please drop by their YouTube pages and leave them a hello. In one of my all time favorite episodes, and one of the funniest episodes of the series, Sandy is fixed up with Mrs. Poole's nephew, Leon, who unbeknown to her is an Elvis impersonator! David works tirelessly to prepare a romantic dinner for his date, only for Mark and Willie to intrude on his plans. Happy Thanksgiving!

Mark seethes when Willie gets the lead in a school play opposite Cara and he gets even crazier when he learns the two will share a romantic kiss. Meanwhile, Michael and Lloyd test their friendship on the golf course and David tries to curb Sandy's non-stop spending habits.
Burt duels with Dave after he suspects he may have stolen the non-responsive perfect woman from him. Meanwhile Sandy tickles the ivories, and everyone's nerves, after spontaneously purchasing an organ. Special Note: This is episode is the first of two consecutive episodes where a majority of the incidental music is from the second season of Valerie. After this music had been dug up for the first time since the second season, after shows 57 & 58 it is never used again.

After having no luck in finding a date for a friend's wedding, she stuns her brother Michael by accepting the invitation to attend with her ex-husband Richard. Meanwhile, Michael finds himself one short for his poker game and accepts David's plea to allow him to play along. Steve Vinowich makes his first of four appearances as Richard and the poker guys make their first of several appearances here as well: Don Bovingloh (Ted), Will Jeffries (Al), Arnold Turner (Frank). Who can forget the lovable mailman, ugh letter carrier, Bill Wiley (Bill).
Mark feels like a loner compared to his brothers and father who share sports stories, nicknames, scars and kinship with their teammates. To help him find his place among the guys, David enrolls him in wrestling, infuriating Valerie.
Sandy Duncan's star shines as her character, Sandy Hogan, agrees to be a test subject for a paper David is writing on sleep deprivation. A battle soon begins on who will crack first; Sandy due to a lack of sleep, or an irritated David who is bewildered by his aunt's unbreakable perkiness. Sandy delivers some spectacular laugh out loud lines here, especially in acts II and III. Steve: "That's very insightful, Miss Hogan." Sandy: "Isn't it though?" Harvey: "All I am saying is that we need to look at--" Sandy: (Interrupting) "Harvey, Harvey. Do you have a girlfriend?" Priceless!
A girl at school, Cara (Josie Bissett), has a crush on Willie because she's mistakenly accepted him as a deep and reflective guy. Realizing that he doesn't have a chance, he turns to Mark for help in landing her as his girlfriend. Unbeknown to Willie, Mark already has a crush on Cara. David turns the household upside down while practicing for a magic show performance. Special thank you to UWEC95 for this episode!
This is another one of my episodes where the quality isn't very good because of the tape. I was not happy as I like this episode a lot. Sorry about the quality! Private Lessons Season 4 First aired: 4/23/1989 Willie wants to teach Mark a lesson in brotherly love when Willie's girlfriend decides she likes her tutor Mark better. Writer: Chip Keyes, Doug Keyes Director: James O'Keefe Guest star: André Gower (Steve Traeger) , Tammy Lauren (Lisa)

Mrs. Poole has just moved in next door, along side her sleepless barking dog -- which proves to keep Valerie sleepless herself. Meanwhile, David is set up with a girl who doesn't reciprocate his feelings toward her. Guest star (Kristy Swanson of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Mannequin 2: On the Move)
Episode 05, Season 1. "Benefit of the Doubt": (3/24/86) Pt. 2 Not only are Willie's erratic study habits causing him to fail science, but his brainiac is making him look even worse. Barbara Goodwin: Christine Ebersole.

During David's history teacher has a heart attack and David saves his life with CPR. This leads David to re-examine his belief in God. Meanwhile, Mrs. Poole goes to work in the Hogan's backyard, landscaping after her dog, Casey runs amok through it. An episode that succeeds in being both powerful and hilarious simultaniously. This is also one of the first episodes filmed during the transition from Valerie Harper to Sandy Duncan. My theory is that it was a script written for an episode of "Valerie", and since Sandy's character was so new that it would be best if a more familiar character is there to guide David through something so traumatic. It is very easy to visualize all of Josh Taylor's scenes having been acted out by Valerie here.

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow First aired: 10/10/1988 David humiliates Mark and Willie by playing a practical joke on them but they soon turn the tables on the "master of practical jokes" by convincing him that his hair is falling out. Meanwhile, Michael doesn't have a moment of fun when he is randomly chosen to retake his driver's test.
Another of my all time favorite episodes has Mrs. Poole starring in her own cooking show with David as producer. Soon after its premiere, the show is "blinded" with disaster. Meanwhile Michael is dealing with his own disastrous home security system situation. I apologize about the poor video quality - this is a very old tape, but this is too good an episode to skip due to poor quality.
Episode 45, Season 3. "Teacher's Pet": (01/11/88) Pt. 1 There's a certain chemistry between David and his science teacher (Lisa Aliff), while Sandy has the solution for a depressed Mrs. Poole, who's without her husband on their anniversary. Mr. Poole: Willard Scott. Maitre d': Richard Salassi. *SPECIAL NOTE* This is NOT from an original NBC airing but it is the full UNEDITED episode aired on Channel 11 WPIX. Thanks to Charlie for giving me access to this episode and allowing me to share it with fellow youtubers.
Episode 71, Season 4. "Oh Dad, Poor Dad": (03/27/89) Pt. 1 Michael's suffering through his 40th birthday becomes much more painful when he attends his own surprise party. Ted: Don Bovingloh. Al: Will Jeffries. Corky Corcoran: Peter Schrum. Frank: Arnold Turner.
Valerie's discomfort after a bunion operation is compounded by Mrs. Poole's relentless help. Meanwhile, David takes a sucker punch from his tutor's ex-boy friend Eric. Note: This episode has a different end-credit sequence than the others, which even includes a scene from the "Caught on a Hot Tin Roof" episode with Valerie Harper and Jason Bateman dancing.

Entertainment Tonight - WHATEVER HAPPENED TO... - Sandy Duncan. September 8, 2001. Sandy Duncan is featured in this "Where Are They Now" segment where she talks about her start in her career, her tumor which resulted in her blind left eye, her taking over the series "Valerie" from star Valerie Harper (subsequently retitled "Valerie's Family" and later "The Hogan Family"), her bouts with alcoholism and clinical depression, and her return to Broadway. *SPECIAL NOTE* The first 2 minutes of the clip feature teasers of the interview that Entertainment Tonight had while showing its other segments. They are included here before the actual interview since they all spotlighted different parts of the interview.
Sandy bares it all in a painting hanging at a fine art gallery in downtown Chicago - but there's more to the story than what meets the eye. Guest starring André Gower as Steve Traeger, James David Hinton as Daniel Hampshire and Marguerite De Lain as Linda Lowy.
Sandy has a hard time admitting that she's come down with a cold. Mark and Willie throw a party with David acting as chaperon to assist Mark in making a move on his crush, Stephanie. Guest star: Melissa Clayton (Stephanie)
Episode 60, Season 4. "Tobacco Road": (12/05/88) Pt. 1 Sandy tries to teach Willie a lesson about cigarettes, but her efforts go up in smoke when she returns to smoking herself. Frank Simpson: John C. Anders. *SPECIAL NOTE* Since most of my episodes are UNEDITED, I wasn't going to post this episode since I am missing like the first 10 or 20 seconds of it. On the other hand I didn't want to deprive fans of the episode because of this small glitch. The episode is literally missing the first 10 seconds. I hope everyone is able to enjoy it inspite of this. It's better than nothing I presume.
The flu bug makes its way through the Hogan house. *This is a very beat up old tape - I apologize in advance of the poor quality*
Episode 110, Season 6. "Ho, Ho Hogans": (07/20/91) Pt. 1 Department-store Santa Dave and the Hogans have a hard time ho-ho-hoing over holiday frustrations, such as a kid helping himself to Santa's wallet. Benjamin: Jarrett Lennon. Mrs. Umstead: Betsy Randle. Denise: Tina Hart. Randy: Thomas Hobson.
Sandy suspects that Mark and Cara did more than innocently fall asleep while studying chemistry together. Michael and Lloyd argue about their taste in movies. David works as Burt's campaign manager for Student Body President. Directed by Jason Bateman A side note... A good episode but I absolutely detest the way they wrote Sandy's character here. Through the years, Mark had never given Sandy a reason not to trust him... and Sandy was always written to be a concerned, loving and trusting aunt... but the writing here spins her to be absolutely shrewish toward Mark. It completely irks me to watch.

Some of my favorite moments on a television series are when the characters are shown in a completely different scenario: on vacation, in a life changing event, or in a fantasy... just so long as it isn't over done. The hilariously obscure nightmares in this episode make it stand out as one of my favorite Hogan Family episodes. -------- In this episode, the boys are plagued with obscure nightmares after watching a slasher film.
Episode 99, Season 6. "California Dreamin' Pt 2": (09/22/90) Pt. 3 Sandy and Michael fear the worst when Lloyd disappears but breath a sigh of relief when he is found safe. Later, Sandy tries to talk him into moving in with the family, instead of living on a boat. David's movie crew gig goes awry and Cara makes an unexpected visit, surprising a preoccupied Mark. *SPECIAL NOTE* This is a syndicated cut of the episode and not an original airing. There is about 1 1/2 minutes edited out of the episode (I think there is anyway; I could be wrong) since most unedited HOGAN episodes are in the range of 23 minutes. Also, before anyone asks, no, I do not have Pt 1 available. I was hesitant posting the second part of this episode because of that but then I thought people would still want to see it anyway. There is a recap of Pt 1 so fans shouldn't be too inconvenienced if they've never seen Part 1 before. Part of the appeal of this episode for me is Jeremy Licht at the beach in his green tank top. Why he never modeled I'll never know... (sigh). Hope you all enjoy!
