But she's never let go of the work ethic, which came in handy during Chicago's marathon bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics. As general counsel for the bid committee, Ms. Fairchild led a team of lawyers on loan from 20 firms who handled everything from ordinances with the Chicago City Council to revenue-sharing arrangements with the US Olympic Committee. "She consistently knew everything I knew and also knew more than many people on the other side of the table," recalls David Spiegel, a Kirkland & Ellis attorney who was responsible for negotiating 55 advance agreements with government agencies to provide various services for the Olympics.
