Air France Flight 7 F-HPJD bound for Paris, was taxiing on a runway when its left wingtip struck the tail of Comair Flight 6293, which had just landed from Boston and was taxiing to its gate at Kennedy, one of the nation's busiest airports, Peters said. Both jets were being towed to a ramp area for inspection, Peters said. The extent of the damage was unknown. The FAA didn't immediately say how many people were on the double-deck Airbus A380, which can carry 525 passengers in a three-class configuration or more than 850 in a single-class configuration. Air France didn't immediately return a telephone message seeking comment. The Comair CRJ 700 Regional Jet was carrying 62 passengers and four crew members, said Betsy Talton, a spokeswoman of Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines Inc., for which Comair operates regional flights. All the passengers were taken off the plane and into a terminal, she said

PLEASE READ FOR MORE INFORMATION SPOTTING TRIP JOHN F. KENNEDY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT SATURDAY JANUARY 15, 2011 This video features spotting from two different locations, while JFK was landing on 22L and 13L in addition to departing on 13R. The first few minutes feature 22L arrivals, which were nice, but was a PAIN to deal with, as that spotting location was covered in several feet of snow and was a pain in the neck to get to. I then switched to the 13L spot just to see if it was actually accessible. It was being plowed and then was available. It was a GREAT move and you will see why in the video. I even got some video of 22L arrivals and a couple 13R departures from that spot. I apologize for the editing on the video, as I experimented with filming in high definition, which, unfortunately, did not give me the ease of editing as I thought it would (since the video is on tape and not on memory cards), so basically you're seeing an unedited video. British authorities were probing whether a package from Yemen containing explosives found on a cargo jet bound for the United States was a "viable" bomb, Home Secretary Theresa May said Saturday. US President Barack Obama said the package found aboard an American-registered cargo plane at East Midlands Airport in central England -- along with another discovered in Dubai -- both contained explosive material and were addressed to synagogues in Chicago. The plane in England was en route to Chicago via Philadelphia. "At this stage I can say that the device did contain explosive material. But it is not yet clear that it was a viable explosive device. The forensic work continues," May said in a statement issued in the early hours of Saturday. The package was found inside a toner cartridge with wires attached to it. Britain was "urgently considering" new security measures for air cargo from Yemen following the discovery of the package and was "in discussion with industry contacts" over the issue, May said. The discovery of the two packages on cargo planes in transit for the United States sparked an international security alert. Other planes at US airports were checked because they were thought to contain items from Yemen and two military jets escorted a commercial passenger jet to New York's John F. Kennedy Airport Friday afternoon. FBI Special Agent Richard Kolko said late Friday the aircraft had been cleared after searches, CNN reported. The flight, Emirates 201, originated in ...
Delta Airlines flight 4951 made a safe emergency landing at JFK International Airport in New York City yesterday after the aircraft's right landing gear failed. There were 64 passengers and crew members aboard as well as 3000 gallons of flammable fuel. The plane flight from Atlanta to New York came down at 8:20pm EST 27-09-10. The pilot maintained composure as he radioed air traffic control. He reported "The right gear is stuck up. The other two are down". When asked which runway he wanted to land on, he stated "Whichever one would be better for you all." They settled on Runway 31 Right. Flight crew members prepped passengers for the emergency landing by telling them "heads down stay down!" in the crash position. The captain told them to brace for impact over the intercom. Rescuers on the ground feared the worst on account of the 3000 gallons of flammable fuel. As the plane landed, sparks flew from the righthand side but luckily the plane did not catch fire. All 64 people were shuttled safely from the aircraft to the airport.

Spotting at John F. Kennedy International Airport John F. Kennedy International Airport Queens, New York Sunday July 18, 2010 IN THIS VIDEO, I cover arrivals to Kennedy Airport's Runways 31R and 31L, as well as departures off of Runway 22R later in the video. All video seen here was shot from a shopping center off of Rockaway Boulevard, while the A380 was shot from Inwood Park, and the 22R departures were shot from Bayswater Park. I hope you don't mind over an hour of spotting, with the video shot between 1:45 pm and 7:00 pm on Sunday, and features a small handful of special schemes and a few aircraft going into JFK and flying over JFK that I found to be interesting. Strangely enough, most of the jetBlue traffic arrived on 31L rather than 31R and a larger than normal number of Delta aircraft landed on 31R rather than 31L. As far as the departures go, most of the jetBlue, American Airlines, Virgin America, and some Delta aircraft took off from 31L rather than 22R. Spotting at John F. Kennedy International Airport John F. Kennedy International Airport Queens, New York Saturday July 17, 2010 IN THIS VIDEO, I spent over an hour at Kennedy Airport covering arrivals onto Runway 13L. At the time this video was shot, the large majority of international arrivals utilized Runway 22L while the large majority of 13L arrivals were all domestic arrivals, which you can see in the video. Afterwards, I switch to covering 13R departures, shot from Inwood Park (Bayswater Park is actually better than Inwood Park for 13R departures but I did not feel like going to Bayswater that day). The video from 13L is shot from a location that has been and is still considered off-limits for spotting - the parking lot is closed off to vehicles. JFK Airport Takeoff and flyover; SFO landing and taxi to gate
Queens, NY - Monday afternoon VIN News made a visit at JFK to talk to stranded passengers who have been held up at the airport since the volcanic ash crisis in Iceland, that has halted many countries flying airspace. The passengers were taking everything in stride considering they are stuck anywhere from a day to 6 days at JFK. The mood at JFK was quiet and passengers were laying in make shift beds provided by the red cross. Red cross blankets and cots were stretched from one end of terminal 4 to the other end. Security was tight for the upper level of terminal 4 where hundreds of people were resting and sleeping. Rabbi Rackman, Chaplain and Rabbi of the synagogue at terminal 4 was walking around the entire day asking passengers of all faiths if they need any assistance and was also trying to gather minyanim for the passengers waiting for EL AL personnel to open the computers for the 11 50 PM flight. Many news outlets were stationed throughout JFK to gather info and do reports. EL AL had two flights that were either delayed and canceled today and were putting passangers on the 11 50 pm flight which was already over sold and booked. Managers arranged for three trailor loads of portable showers to be brought in to the parking lot so passengers can at least feel a little refreshed.

We flew out of JFK airport to Australia during one of the worst snow storms this season. Our airline was the only airline that didnt say "Cancelled" on the departures board. After sitting out on the runway for 6 hours, as they de-iced the plane and everything, The airline finally decided to cancel our flight and send us home to try it again tomorrow. It became frustrating after a while, until they upgraded all of our seats, then it seemed almost worth the hassel. The fact that we were headed to warmer weather also made it a bit easier to deal with.

Here's the original recording.US officials are investigating how a child was apparently allowed to direct planes at New York's JFK airport - one of the country's busiest. The probe comes after an audiotape caught the boy directing several pilots preparing for take-off last month. In one exchange, the boy is heard saying: "jetblue 171 contact departure." The pilot responds: "Over to departure jetblue 171, awesome job." The boy was apparently with his father - a certified air traffic controller. The adult is later heard saying with a laugh: "That's what you get, guys, when the kids are out of school." In another exchange, the child says: "MS 4-0-3, contact departure," and then adds: "Adios, amigo." The pilot responds: "Adios, amigo." The pilots on the tape appear to be not concerned that a child is giving them instructions. The incident happened on 17 February, when many New York pupils were on a week-long break. The age and name of the child and the adult on the audiotape were not immediately known. 'Not indicative' incident The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement: "Pending the outcome of our investigation, the employees involved in this incident are not controlling air traffic. Child 'Directs Jets' From JFK Airport Tower Transport bosses in the US launch an investigation after a child apparently directed pilots from the JFK airport. ______ Updated: Audio tapes on which a child can be heard directing jets at New York's John F Kennedy Airport have sparked a probe in the US. The child apparently makes five transmissions from the airport control centre to pilots preparing for take-off. The Federal Aviation Administration has launched the investigation after the audio came to light on a website for air traffic control buffs. A spokesman for the FAA said: "Pending the outcome of our investigation, the employees involved in this incident are not controlling air traffic. "This behaviour is not acceptable and does not demonstrate the kind of professionalism expected from all FAA employees." That's what you get, guys, when the kids are out of school. Adult male voice on the tape The recordings were posted in mid-February during a week-long winter break for many New York schoolchildren. In one exchange, the child can be heard saying: "jetblue 171 contact departure." The pilot responds: "Over to departure jetblue 171, awesome job." The child appears to be under an adult's supervision, because a male voice then comes on and says with a laugh: "That's what you get, guys, when the kids are out of school." In another exchange, the youngster clears another plane for takeoff, and says: "Adios, amigo." The pilot responds in kind. The FAA said the control tower is ...
The Federal Aviation Administration is currently investigating an incident in which a child was heard giving instructions to pilots from the tower of one of the busiest airports in the US In a recording that FAA has confirmed as authentic, the child delivers five transmissions from John F. Kennedy International Airport. In each case, the pilots responded enthusiastically to him. Here is the transcript of one of those conversations from JFK: JFK TOWER: Jet Blue 171 contact departure. PILOT: Over to departure jet blue 171, awesome job. The child did appear to be supervised, as a controller explained the reason for the child's voice to the approaching pilot as follows: "That's what you get guys when the kids are out of school. (laughter)" JFK airport is currently sixth busiest in the nation with several thousand planes taking off and landing daily. The control tower is one of the most secure areas in the airport and FAA says only licensed controllers are allowed to communicate with aircraft.

Spotting at John F. Kennedy International Airport John F. Kennedy International Airport New York City, New York (Queens) Sunday December 6, 2009 IN THIS VIDEO, you will see Kennedy Airport operating on the 31s all day. The first part of the video shows departures off of Runway 31L, performing the famous Canarsie departure climb (and at the location where all of the famous banking photos are taken). The second part features arrivals into 31R. Keep in mind that I did not shoot video of every departure and arrival in the six plus hour span I was at Kennedy because there are a lot of American, Delta, jetblue, and regional jet (American Eagle or Comair) movements. Towards the end of the video, I switched spots to catch the A380 landing on Runway 31L and then returned to the original spot for more 31R arrivals before leaving. This was a very cold and windy day, but also an enjoyable one. Don't expect any more spotting videos from Kennedy anytime soon because tolls in the region keep on going up... Some of the video of 31R arrivals (Singapore Airlines Star Alliance 747-400, Open Skies 757, Uzbekistan 767, jetblue new colors A320) was not included because of the camera malfunctioning. It will be replaced in 2010.
