Joel Edgerton (born 23 June 1974) is an Australian actor.
Edgerton was born in Sydney, Australia. He has appeared in such films as Erskineville Kings, King Arthur, Ned Kelly, and, most notably, Star Wars episodes II and III, portraying a young Owen Lars, step-brother of Anakin Skywalker and uncle to Luke Skywalker. Edgerton's brother, Nash, was the stunt double for Ewan McGregor, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Coincidentally, the novelization for Return of the Jedi erroneously refers to Obi-Wan as Owen's brother.
Edgerton attended the Nepean Drama School in western Sydney before moving on to various stage productions, most notably at Sydney Theatre Company - Blackrock, Third World Blues and Love for Love - and Bell Shakespeare - Henry V - as well as television series. He is known for playing the role of Will on the series The Secret Life of Us for which he was nominated for an AFI award.

The film opens in the city of Gothia, a smoky industrial metropolis where steam-powered dirigibles are the primary mode of transportation, and where a terrible flesh-eating plague is decimating the population. The protagonist, royal navigator Jasper Morello, is deployed by the government at the outset to distribute mobile weather beacons along the route of his next voyage.
