Made a quick hop in one of Sunrise Aviation's Evektor SportStars over to French Valley for their pastrami sandwich and homemade potato chips. Good Stuff... Interesting ATC handling on the approach back to SNA.
Got check out in Sunrise Aviation's Evektor SportStar. Pretty fun little airplane, easy transition from the Diamonds too... Really fun to fly, and best of all... it's much more affordable than everything else on the line. Little bit breezy this morning... 90% of the time the winds are right to left at SNA, this morning they were turned around almost directly from left to right. AITS was claiming 7kts from 110, Caught me off guard for a second on take off, even more right rudder to counteract the weathervane effect!
172 My instructor brings it in because the of 14 knot crosswind. Pretty hairy landing.
While taxiing for take-off I noticed a B-17 on final and had my instructor take control so I could film it landing.
Going through the security gate, the camera is pointed up on accident for about a minute, but there's some good shots of my driving by all the planes after.
This is a clip of me and Arnie (my instructor) landing at John Wayne Airport coming from Salt Lake City, Utah in a Pilatus PC12. I went to Salt lake twice within a 24 hour period and logged in 9hours 17 minutes of flight time. Thanks Arnie. You are a great pilot. I loved the sport takeoff you performed when the other planes didn't want to leave because of the weather coming towards the Airport in Salt Lake. You said "Those planes are waiting for the storm to pass. Were leaving now!" I said "Yeah, that's because we're Bad and Better than them". You laughed and said "We'll be out before the storm hits." We took off and you did a 260 at 500ft. That was nice! Stuart
Santa Ana John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California, is one of the most dangerous airports in the US, do to its proximity to the urban area and its VERY short runway (5900 ft, barely enough for a 737). The reason why the landing was a bit hard was because of the crosswind conditions and because floating down the runway is unacceptable at this airport (as the runway may run out and a crash can occur). The crosswind conditions in the video were winds coming from 270 at 8 knots. Thanks for watching^^! The first of three legs on my second solo cross country. John Wayne Airport (SNA) to Palm Springs International (PSP).
This video shows Boeing 737-800 (Continental Airline) landing at KSNA. The aircraft was flown from Los Angeles Int (KLAX) to John Wayne Int (KSNA) via GPS, and was landed on runway 19L via ILS (Frequency = 111.7MHz).
Another lap around the pattern at KSNA John Wayne Airport, shot with the Canon 7d. Experimenting with Auto ISO setting... shot with the Canon 15mm 2.8 EF Fisheye, 1/60 of a second at f16, 1080p 24.
Back in the pattern again this morning... I gotta hand it to the SNA controllers; between students like myself, the throngs of other small aircraft pilots, helicopters and airliners moving around, they've got their hands full, and they do quite the job keeping things flowing in an orderly fashion.

The Lyon Air Museum is a private collection of Vehicles and Aircraft from the WWII era. Larry gives us a quick tour of the museum on our lunch break. The Museum is open for free guided tours 11 am to 3 pm during the week. The public is encouraged to stop in for a tour, and chidren are especially welcome to visit.
