In 2003, researcher Barr McClellan published the book, Blood, Money & Power: How LBJ Killed JFK McClellan claims that Lyndon Johnson, motivated by the fear of being dropped from the Kennedy ticket in 1964 and the need to cover up various scandals, masterminded Kennedy's assassination with the help of his friend attorney Edward Clark. The book suggests that a smudged partial fingerprint from the sniper's nest likely belonged to Johnson's associate Malcolm "Mac" Wallace, and that Mac Wallace was therefore the assassin. The book further claims that the killing of Kennedy was paid for by oil magnates including Clint Murchison and HL Hunt. McClellan's book subsequently became the subject of an episode of Nigel Turner's ongoing documentary television series, The Men Who Killed Kennedy. The episode, entitled "The Guilty Men", drew widespread condemnation from both the Johnson family and President Johnson's former aides following its airing on The History Channel, which subsequently agreed not to air the episode in the future. Fort Detrick is a US Army Medical Command installation located in Frederick, Maryland, USA. Historically, Fort Detrick was the center for the United States' biological weapons program (1943-69). Today, Fort Detrick's 1200-acre (490 ha) campus supports a multi-governmental community that conducts biomedical research and development, medical material management, global medical communications and the study of foreign plant pathogens. It is home to the US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC), with its bio-defense agency, the US Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID). It also hosts the National Cancer Institute-Frederick (NCI-Frederick) and will be home to the planned National Interagency Biodefense Campus. Camp Detrick was designated a permanent installation for peacetime biological research and development shortly after World War II, but that status was not confirmed until 1956, when the post became Fort Detrick. John Curtis Holmes (August 8, 1944 March 13, 1988) better known as John C. Holmes or Johnny Wadd (after the lead character in a series of related films), was one of the most prolific male porn stars of all time, appearing in about 2500 adult loops, stag films, and pornographic feature movies in the 1970s and 1980s. She grew up in the Houston, Tx. area where she knew singer Sippie Wallace, as well as the Thomas family George, Hersal and Hociel. In February of 1928 she went to Chicago, IL. where she recorded six songs for Paramount Records billed as "Moanin' Bernice Edwards" In November of that year she went back to Chicago to record again for Paramount. Six more songs were recorded with a guitar player believed to have been Willard "Ramblin'" Thomas. All twelve of her Paramount sides were issued. Bernice didn't record again until 1935 for the ARC label in Fort Worth, Tx. One Saturday in April of that year she recorded with Black Boy Shine on piano and JT "Howling" Smith on guitar. She returned the next day to record one song by herself. JT Smith was known as "Funny Papa" and had recorded several sides for Vocalion in 1930 & 1931. Vocalion made a goof and issued the records as JT "Funny Paper" Smith. He had success with his series of his song known as "The Howling Wolf" recorded in several parts, so he later adopted the nickname "Howling Smith". I have included the one known photo of Smith in the clip. No photos exist either of Black Boy Shine, a pianist who also recorded on his own as well as working as a session man. Remember the hoopla over the 11th-hour pardons of the Clinton administration? Well the pardons and commutation of sentences in the waning weeks of the current Bush administration are well underway. So far, no high profile pardons. But interesting ones none-the-less. It makes you wonder how the president of the United States decides who to pardon. What would compel a president to pardon, for example, a guy convicted of use and distribution of marijuana and cocaine at the Air Force Academy? And how would the case of Leslie O. Collier of Charleston, MO come to the attention of the president? He had been convicted of unauthorized use of a registered pesticide. Apparently he was trying to use the pesticide to kill coyotes but three eagles fell victim. Then there was the case of Obie G. Helton. The Rossville, GA man was sentenced to two-year's probation for acquiring food stamps without permission. How is his case, as opposed to other food stamp convicts, worthy of presidential review? Another guy who was convicted of income tax evasion got pardoned. Maybe the president had a soft spot for the man's hometown, Traveler's Rest, SC. Bet you didn't know it was against federal law to use a telephone to further a narcotics felony. Well that's what Ronald Alan Mohrhoff of Los Angeles was convicted of. Balla coi lupi (Dances with wolves) è un film del 1990, diretto da Kevin Costner, tratto dall'omonimo romanzo di Michael Blake. Lo ritengo il miglior lavoro cinematografico, fino ad oggi, mai realizzato sugli Indiani d'America. In particolare trovo questa scena (che è quella conclusiva) un capolavoro assoluto. In essa vediamo "Vento nei capelli" (il guerriero piu' forte e orgoglioso dei Sioux) dichiarare la sua amicizia eterna nei confronti di John Dunbar (Kevin Costner). La sequenza è resa ancora piu' commovente dalle musiche di John Barry e dal pensiero dell'evoluzione che c'è stata nel rapporto fra Dunbar e Vento nei capelli.

Ciascuno di noi, americani e cittadini di ogni altro paese, ha delle forti emozioni legate a quella giornata: l'orrore tremendo delle immagini che tormentano la nostra memoria; la frustrazione, depressione e rabbia generate dall'inumana ed insensata violenza; l'urgenza di capire cosa significava, cosa significa ed in che modo la consapevolezza di ciò potrebbe guidare le nostre azioni come individui e come nazioni. Nell'ospitare questa mostra commemorativa all'università John Hopkins di Bologna, i nostri intenti sono modesti, ma noi speriamo significativi. L'evocazione delicata e ponderata di Andrea Benetti e Lanfranco Di Rico ci fornisce una interpretazione visiva che speriamo possa portare il visitatore oltre l'immagine gravosa di quel giorno, mentre offre un collegamento per la nostra memoria ed uno stimolo per le nostre interpretazioni di quell'evento che ha cambiato il mondo e che chiameremo per sempre 9-11. Quella pace che è il manifesto dell'arte di Andrea Benetti, poiché egli la promuove in ogni ambito e la pone alla base della sua espressione artistica; nessuno meglio di Lanfranco Di Rico avrebbe potuto affiancarlo nel realizzare questo complesso lavoro, in quanto la formazione teologica di Di Rico (laureato in teologia alla Sacra Università Pontificia) pone innanzi ad ogni cosa la pace e l'amore per il prossimo. Oltre ai contenuti di spessore e creatività che offrono le loro opere, vi è un lavoro eccellente di tecnica, espressa quest'ultima mediante la pittura, l'incisione e l'elaborazione materica. Un perfetto connubio di due artisti che hanno curato, ognuno nel proprio ambito creativo (Benetti pittura, Di Rico scultura), le forme ed i colori, che si uniscono magistralmente nelle opere di questa mostra. Quindi l'apprezzamento per questo lavoro viaggia su molteplici binari, che vanno dal messaggio che lo ha ispirato, alla creazione eccellente delle opere; dalla tecnica e la scelta dei colori, all'integrazione creativa, che i due artisti hanno saputo trovare, fondendo la loro conoscenza nelle opere d'arte di grande valore che ci presentano. Ricordo ancora una frase di Benetti che mi colpì molto per la sua semplicità e forza, che pronunciò, in occasione della prima presentazione di questa mostra, al Museo delle Genti d'Abruzzo, a Pescara: ritengo che l'arte debba sempre offrire una risposta da contrapporre alla violenza e all'odio; non certo l'unica da porre in essere, ma la risposta dell'arte deve sempre esistere, forte e salda, a riprova dell'amore che essa nutre per la vita, sempre ferma nel respingere e denunciare ogni azione dingiustizia, di crudeltà e di morte ed affermare un messaggio di vita e di pace".
