Airshow Operations at Republic Airport 2009Jones Beach Airshow Jones Beach State Park Jones Beach, New York Sunday May 24, 2009 IN THIS VIDEO, you'll see various movements from near Echo ramp at Republic Airport. 95% of the movements you see in the video are related to the Jones Beach Airshow, and you will see takeoffs, landings, and the occasional flyby by performing aircraft. Don't mind the Emirates A380, which overflew the airport for a Runway 22L arrival. USAF Thunderbirds 2009Jones Beach Airshow Jones Beach State Park Jones Beach, New York Saturday May 23, 2009 IN THIS VIDEO, you'll see the Thunderbirds fly a high show over Jones Beach. Take note of the jets that Boss and Slot are flying - they are both two-seaters. The single seaters went mechanical for most of the time the team was at Republic Airport and the two-seaters took their place in the demo. The slot pilot, Major Sean Gustafson, is actually flying his jet with the centerline external fuel tank on the jet. It's the first time I've seen a non-clean jet in the demo, and the reason for the external tank is because of the Block 52's higher thrust engine, which in turn consumes more fuel, and that the fuel tank that is usually behind the pilot is smaller in the D-model than it is in the C-model. Put all of those things together and it should make sense. Interestingly enough, the Thunderbirds did not close out the show, and that helped a lot with traffic, as I got in my car and onto the Southern State Parkway in record time. Canadian Forces Snowbirds 2009Jones Beach Airshow Jones Beach State Park Jones Beach, New York Saturday May 23, 2009 IN THIS VIDEO, you will see the Snowbirds fly their high show performance over Jones Beach for the first time in its airshow history. The first pass in this video is not part of the demonstration, as the team was getting ready to perform. You will also notice the 2009 show routine has changed quite a bit over the 2008 performances, as the Snowbirds are the only North American team to regularly change their shows each show season. 106th Rescue Wing Combat Search & Rescue Demonstration 2009Jones Beach Airshow Jones Beach State Park Jones Beach, New York Saturday May 23, 2009 IN THIS VIDEO, you will see rescue swimmers exit from the HC-130 Hercules and land in the water, followed by the HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter deploying additional rescue swimmers and then picking up the swimmers. The jumpers from the C-130 were to simulate downed pilots being rescued by the swimmers from the Pave Hawks. The demo was performed well off show right because of the high winds. Both the Hercules and the Pave Hawk are from the 106th Rescue Wing, New York ANG, based in Westampton, New York (about 45 minutes to the east by car). The 106th provided the concluding act for the Saturday show (and quite possibly for the Sunday show, as I was not on the beach for Sunday). F/A-18F Super Hornet Demonstration VFA-106 "Gladiators" 2009 Jones Beach Airshow Jones Beach State Park Jones Beach, New York Saturday May 23, 2009 IN THIS VIDEO, watch as Lieutenants Justin "JUGS" Halligan and Gregory "Gerbil" Holley put this Super Hornet through its paces in a demonstration over Jones Beach. Take note of the massive vapor cones in the high speed pass - they are among the very best cones I have ever seen in a Super Hornet demo. In conversations with these two aviators, they reached Mach 0.98 on the high speed pass and 78 knots on the high alpha pass. The second day of the Jones Beach Air Show on Long Island, NY that takes place every year startet pretty clouldy and hazy. With two hours delay the show started finally and it was an amazing event. The most spectacular performance was a supersonic flight at close range. Enjoy and share my impressions.

US Army Golden Knights C-31 Troopship 2009Jones Beach Airshow Jones Beach State Park Jones Beach, New York Saturday May 23, 2009 IN THIS VIDEO, the Golden Knights could not jump as a result of the VERY high winds that were blowing out from the east on Saturday. You will also see an HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter make a pass down the beach as well - that pass occuring before 10:00 am. I apologize for the quality of the video, as the high winds and cooler than expected temperatures caught me off-guard, and while dressed for summer-like weather, I was freezing, and the effects of that can be seen in the video (a lot of shake - similar to if I was shooting with the HC52, even though I was using the FX7). You'll see the Snowbirds taxiing back to their parking spots on a part of the Sheltair ramp, the Thunderbirds departing from Runway 14 (including a media flight), the Heritage Flight returning, a B-17 Flying Fortress arriving, as well as a large amount of P-51 Mustang operations, as Jim Beasley, Ed Shipley, and Dan Friedkin arrive, take off, do the Horsemen performance, return, and fly a host of media flights. Thunderbirds airshow. The music and comments in the background was part of the show and announcer. The show was suspended in the morning because of low visibility. The "pencil" tower could barely be seen, but once the fog moved out the show began.
