He currently fights as a featherweight in the World Extreme Cagefighting promotion, where he is the current WEC Featherweight Champion. Aldo is currently ranked the #1 featherweight in the world by Sherdog. Although he has a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, he is making his name as a striker with six of his seven WEC fights ending victoriously by knockout or technical knockout. Aldo made his debut for Mixed Martial Arts promoter World Extreme Cagefighting on June 1, 2008 at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, California. In his debut with the organization he defeated renowned fighter Alexandre Franca Nogueira at WEC 34. Aldo won his fight on June 7, 2009 at WEC 41 against Cub Swanson via double flying knee eight seconds into the first round. Aldo won the WEC Featherweight Championship against Mike Brown on November 18, 2009 at WEC 44. He out-struck Brown in the first round, once even stunning the champion. He was able to get Brown in the mount, where he punched away until the referee was forced to stop the fight. In loose 2 Faber Even came out trying to control the tempo, but Aldo kept his distance keeping Faber from having in close enough to really land any good fists by working the kick. Not as exciting as the low around, merely a good technical rich and another 10-9 Aldo win. In beat 3 Aldo fought cautiously, simply wasnt on a constant backpedal. He knew enough to know he had to avoid letting Faber take him set - which came almost happen. Aldo blasted his head with a kick, just tagged him with a flurry of punches, following it, just Faber would not go set. Score it 10-9 Aldo. By rich 4 Faber went showing signs of losing it and Aldo slapped the crucifix on him and just beat the crap out of Faber. Somehow he rode it out and made it to the 5th around. The 5th turn shouldnt have happened. Faber had no prayer and spent it on desperate moves or butt scooting. Aldo could clearly land blows at will only didnt, and that ticked the crowd off. Yeah its MMA, merely Faber existed done and rather than just destroy the guy Aldo left him standing.
