Recorded June 19, 2007. Juneau is a unified municipality located on the Gastineau Channel in the panhandle of Alaska. It has been the capital of Alaska since 1906, when the government of the then-Alaska Territory was moved from Sitka. Downtown Juneau is nestled at the base of Mount Juneau and across the channel from Douglas Island. As of the 2000 census, the City had a population of 30711. Downtown Juneau sits at sea level below steep mountains about 3500 to 4000 feet high. Atop these mountains is the Juneau Icefield, a large ice mass from which about 30 glaciers flow; two of these, the Mendenhall Glacier and the Lemon Creek Glacier, are visible from the local road system. This video begins as we sail into Juneau's harbor on the Sapphire Princess. After disembarking the ship I take the tramway to the top of Mount Roberts for fantastic views of the Gastineau Channel and the city of Juneau. Next I journey out to Mendenhall Glacier before returning to the city and sailing away. From: timvp.com

My friend Ethel has a sister that lives in Juneau, Alaska. So I jumped at the chance for a visit. We took a trip through Tracy Arm Fjord to see Sawyer Glacier. There was so much ice in the water (in July!) that we couldn't get close to one of the glacial edifices. We saw a black bear walking along the edge of a cliff. We also went kayaking with the Bald Eagles in Sitka as well as Mendenhall lake, where we paddled between icebergs, explored the foot of a 600-foot waterfall, and got right up to the face of the glacier. We went Halibut fishing and got our butts kicked (those things are freakin' strong!) We also saw a pair of Humpback whales feeding, and got to follow them for a few hours. We packed a lot of fun into a week, but I'd go back in a heartbeat!

www.willduris.com These short clips were filmed when I was in Juneau Alaska Summer and Winter of 2005. Footage was done with a Sony VX2000 and edited with Premiere Pro. Even in the Summer it always rains a ton so it can take a long time to get a nice warm sunny day. The northern lights were filmed about 1am on a cold clear night. Tracy Arm glacier tour was filmed in the Summer.
