Dr.Sakti Prasad Padhi,an alumnus of the Ravenshaw College,the Delhi School of Economics,CDS,Trivandrum and a student of Late Dr.KN Raj, was a renowned economist and a policy maker who contributed immensely to the "think tank" leading to the economic development of his state,Orissa,India. His work had a profound influence on the national policy makers with an international fan following. He was the Director of the NKC Center of Development Studies,Bhubaneswar, an ICSSR Institute, to which he gave his prodigious and passionate personal contribution and toil, in spite of many odds, to raise its bar to a national/international organisation of repute.Besides his empirical developmental work,he mentored many scholars and was a role-model to the youth. Born into a close-knit family of well-known educationists in Cuttack,Orissa who experienced the pain of losing their father as toddlers; he was full of humility,compassion and love for people.Tragically, he succumbed on 02 March 2010 to a fire accident while making his favourite cup of tea,aged 53. He leaves behind a passionate assemblage of grieving admirers:peers,scholars,colleagues,teachers,bureaucrats,govt servants,the common man and a loving family. Truly, he belonged to all.
