TV9 - SANDALWOOD TO PARTICIPATE IN 77TH KANNADA SAHITYA SAMELLANA.................!
TV9 - KANNADA SAHITYA SAMMELANA PREPARATION DETAILS BY ASHWATH NARAYAN.............! All roads in the city, painted in yellow and red, will lead to Basavanagudi for three days from Friday. The 77th All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, which is being held after a gap of 40 years, is set to kick-off in all grandeur, attracting thousands. The last sammelana held in the city was in 1970 and the other two were held in 1915 and 1916. Students too are expected to participate in large numbers as schools and colleges will be closed during the gala event. To ease transport to the venue, most of the one lakh autorickshaws in the city will have Kannada flags, banners and stickers of the sammelana. Ninety-eight-year-old lexicographer professor G Venkatasubbaiah is chairing the literary meet. It will be bookworms' days out, with thousands of books adorning 400 stalls, while cultural enthusiasts will be treated with music and dance. For the academically inclined, seminars will provide food for thought. The Sandalwood has shut its activities on Friday to take part in the programmes, including the procession and inauguration. Most cinema halls will screen Kannada movies, at least for one show, to celebrate the occasion. Food and accommodation have been arranged for the delegates. Besides good food, the delegates can travel in BMTC buses for free.

Sarvajña was a poet in the Kannada language. He is famous for his pithy three-lined poems which are called tripadis, "with three padas, three-liners", a form of Vachanas. He is also referred as Sarvagna in modern translation. The period of Sarvajña's life [1] has not been determined accurately, and very little is known about him. Based on studies of his literary style and the references of later writers, historians estimate that he may have lived during the first half of the 16th century. Some references in his works indicate that his real name was Puṣpadatta - Sarvajña appears to have been his pseudonym. His father was a Shaivaite Brahmin and his mother was a Shudra widow named Mali. His father met his mother at a place in present day Dharwar district in Karnataka on his way to Benares on a pilgrimage. Sarvagna grew up as a wandering monk In all, about 2000 three-liners are attributed to Sarvajna. It is possible that some of these were written by later authors. Popular because of their alliterative structure and simplicity, they deal mainly with social, ethical and religious issues. A number of riddles are also attributed to Sarvajna.KANNADA KANMANI - SARVAGNA - full..........!
