Students Symposium at Goa University on Sept. 3, 2010 Professor Man Mohan Sharma, an eminent Chemical Engineer, was born on May 1, 1937 at Jodhpur (Rajasthan). He was educated at Jodhpur, Mumbai and Cambridge and was appointed as a Professor at the age of 27 years in the University of Mumbai, Department of Chemical Technology. During his distinguished career, Professor Sharma has published 235 papers based on original research, in international journals of high standing, and supervised 71 students in completing their Doctoral dissertations. From the early 1970s, from time to time, he has been member of Board of Directors of several reputed companies like Indian Petrochemical Ltd, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Hindustan Organic Chemicals, Hindustan Antibiotics Ltd. Gharda Chemicals Ltd. and Resins and Plastics etc. As adviser/consultant to various industries, he brought a rare clarity to their planning. As an exponent of innovations, Professor Sharma stressed the need for the industry to adopt techniques which eventually led to the successful implementation of many technologies. This resulted in substantial improvement in turn over, and financial advantage in different sectors of industry such as soda ash, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and petroleum refining. He served as the Deputy Prime Minister of India from 2002 to 2004 and was formerly the Leader of the Opposition in the 15th Lok Sabha (Lower House of the Indian Parliament). Advani, who began his political career as a worker of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, is often credited with having made the BJP a formidable force in Indian politics. Lal Krishna Advani was born in Karachi, Sindh, British India (modern day Pakistan) to Kishanchand D. Advani and Gyani Devi. He did his schooling in from Saint Patrick's High School, Karachi and then he joined the DG National College in Hyderabad, Sindh for his education.
