Immanuel Kant's moral philosophy is incongruous with his Critique of Pure Reason. If Kant was true to his own project he would have identified the infinite sea of unmeaning. On starship earth we have nothing but each other to turn to when it comes to finding authentic values in the world. Kant's philosophy by being dogmatic prevents us from seeing this simple truth.

In Chapter 6 of our ethics text we are introduced to Kant. This series of short clips is an introduction to Kants moral philosophy, and particularly the categorical imperative. As I am by no means an expert on Kant, these lectures are based on notes Ive taken from reading Kants various works supplemented by outside sources, namely A History of Philosophy, Vol. VI, by Frederic Copleston, and articles in the online Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy.

Immanuel Kant - Categorical Imperative (Ethics) Rebuttal by James Rachels "The Elements of Moral Philosophy" Sixth Edition by Sturat Rachels Cite: Chapter 9 "Are There Absolute Moral Rules?"
My First Project
To summarize: 1) Humans do not have inherent worth. It's alright to treat each other like we do (for example, to not kill or rape one another), but morality in these situations is based around the preservation of a structured society, not around the existence of some objective worth. 2) The morality of a given situation should be judged on a case by case basis. Actions themselves are not moral or immoral because extenuating factors change the morality of a given situation. For example, killing a person could be moral or immoral, based on the circumstances.

Judith Butler Public open lecture for the students and faculty of the European Graduate School EGS Media and Communication Studies department program Saas-Fee Switzerland Europe 2009 Judith Butler. Judith Butler is the Maxine Elliot professor in the Departments of Rhetoric and Comparative Literature at the University of California, Berkeley. She is a post-structuralist philosopher working in contemporary politics, cultural and literary theory, philosophy, psychoanalysis, feminism, and sexual politics. Butlers books ask, in general to a greater or lesser degree, questions about the creation of identity and subjectivity, following the process in which one becomes a subject through the donning of identities, most notably those of gender, race and sexual orientations. Butlers work investigates the formation of identity—be it an identity of gender, sexual persuasion, or political thought—and through what processes these formations come into existence. Her work is dialectical in style, posing question upon question—investigating—while resisting a final synthesis and allowing a/the question to remain open. Butlers interrogations (though this is a word she would most ...
Brief overview of Kantian Ethics and at least one of its major failings. I'm begining to think that a perfect objective morality may be impossible. However, the combination of several moral systems may indeed be the only way to rectify the failings of the others. In other words, we may need to rely on the wisdom of crowds to determine what is and is not immoral.
In this lecture, I cover the second chapter of the Groundwork for the Metaphysic of Morals
This Lecture offers a brief biography of Kant and walks through Chapter One of "The Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals."
