www.ntv.co.ke This years Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examination witnessed the highest number of candidates in the tests history. Just over 700000 candidates sat for the examinations. Rift Valley Province presented the highest number of candidates at just over 184000 while North Eastern Province had the least candidates with close to 11000 candidates. Candidates from IDPs camps and several inmates sat for the exams. The exams were done amid heavy rains in various parts of the country especially at the coast province. And as Ministry officials prepare to release the results tomorrow (Tuesday) many candidates are hoping to get admission to secondary school. In the 2008 exams more than 250000 pupils missed out on places in Secondary school. So just what were the candidates tested on. NTVs Brenda Mulinya has been doing some homework.

Over 1000 candidates in the 2008 KCSE examinations will not receive their results for engaging in cheating. Releasing the results, Education Minister, Prof Sam Ongeri said over 82000 candidates attained university entry grade C and above, indicating a marked improvement in the 2008 examinations but a substantial number of those who qualify will miss places in public universities.

This is a video that I literally threw together for Africa Week at Stalham High School. This was intended to update the school to what has happened in Kenya at the Marich Early Childhood Development and Primary School since our fundraising efforts during 2007/8. There is video of the new school classrooms that we have helped to build, one of which was opened in January 2009. There is also fairly extensive video of the students singing the Kenyan National Anthem and speeches by both the Headboy and the Headgirl. There is also video of their current toilet and shower facilities and finally a photo of CHEPTIYOS LONGOROK who the school will be sponsoring through her education over the next 2 years and finally there is a song written by the students themselves thanking Stalham High School Students for their financial support. The students also sing other songs.

Kenya private schools association has come out to defend private schools against accusations of malpractices in national examinations. The association maintained that the dominance of top KCPE positions in the 2008 examination was a clear indicated of dedication by private schools and challenged public schools to put their act together.

This years Kenya certificate of primary education exams kicked off today with the ugly ghost of recent political violence rearing its head yet again. As about 700000 students sat for the exams sixteen students displaced by political violence from Eldoret and Nakuru did not sit for their exams as many more go to exam rooms reeling from its impact. Others have been freshly displaced by the ongoing floods.

22 students were arrested in Malindi for allegedly obtaining mathematics paper one yesterday. The group was arrested as they were going through the paper in a house belonging to a Malindi high school teacher. In Meru 3 girls are sitting for their exams in maternity wards.
