On 6/2/2010, Ken Griffey, Jr. of the Seattle Mariners, retired after a 22 year career (2671 games) in baseball. 'The Kid' was one of the classiest pros in ANY sport, period. His final MLB stats are .284 BA, 2781 Hits, 630 HRs, 1836 RBI, 1662 Runs, 184 SB, 13x All-Star Selection, 10x Gold Glove Award Winner, Most Valuable Player Award 1997, and he was named to the Major League Baseball All-Century Team. Hall Of Fame ? I hope so!!

PETERSBURG -- There are no statues near any of the gates leading into Safeco Field, but anyone that knows anything about the Mariners understands that a bronze figure of Ken Griffey Jr. would be a worthy tribute. From the day in 1987 that Griffey wrote his name on a professional baseball contract for the first time, he has been synonymous with the Mariners franchise. Not even a 10-year hiatus in Cincinnati and Chicago took away what "The Kid" meant to Seattle baseball. His second stint with the organization that selected him first overall in the First-Year Player Draft, ended on Wednesday when Griffey announced his retirement, just two months into his 22nd Major League season. "I've come to a decision today to retire from Major League Baseball as an active player," Griffey said in statement released by the Mariners. "This has been on my mind recently, but it's not an easy decision to come by. I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to have played Major League Baseball for so long and thankful for all the friendships I have made, while also being proud of my accomplishments." He went on to thank his family and the Mariners organization for allowing him to finish his playing career where it started.
